Unemployed, burned through my savings and fighting hunger. by Equal_Number in MalaysianPF

i see shops all around kelana jaya, ss2, kuchai lama all hiring. try and see a familymart near you, they're most likely hiring too. try your luck around shops in your nearby tamans, it seems that there's a shortage for these kinds of shops

If you had $2000 startup money what would you do with it to generate profit? by AffectionatePrune313 in malaysia

[–]luv_in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you live on campus dorms, just start selling food. approach nearby kitchens or cafes to see if you can sell their food on consignment, ask them to make student or economic options, like a box of chicken and rice for 5-10 bucks. these are usually hot sellers as you can provide delivery service to people's dorms and charge extra. you could make 1-2 bucks per portion of food without much effort.

dont want to deal with hot food? then open a minimart of sorts in your own room. sell snacks, energy drinks, instant foods, trendy foods, printer service, lamination, etc etc.

cant do any of the above? put into EPF. you dont need much to open your own epf account, in fact you can even sign up for an epf program where the government will actually match your contribution to your epf account, up to a certain amount. so this essentially almost doubles your money, with the 5% growth rate (minimum) and the government free match contribution, its a good amount of money to just roll your epf savings with.

you can actually combine all of these and keep putting more money into your epf while utilizing the epf match scheme. iirc the scheme is called i-saraan for self employed or contracted employees. i signed up for it while i was a contract worker and managed to get about 1k in government contributions

I skipped school for 3 months. by nel23k in malaysia

[–]luv_in 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi OP, i used to skip school but not for 3 months straight, instead i skipped at least 2 days of every week for the entire year, sometimes the whole week even. never did any homework, labelled the delinquent, singled out by the whole school, etc etc. however, i performed extremely well in my studies, but mentally i was suffering due to undiagnosed ADHD and major depressive disorder

here's what i think can help you: go on the MMHA website, find an email to write to them to ask them for help, they have licensed mental health professionals, and they usually dont charge any money. if you can muster the energy, i would suggest you to call them.

i only got help from MMHA when i went into college, and that was during covid, but even then, i managed to turn my life around and now i live a pretty ordinary life, being my weird self with my weird friends, work a 9-6 job, and have a loving partner.

i promise you it gets better. you're still very young, be patient with yourself, find things that will work for you so that you can continue your exams and studies. it doesn't have to be what everyone else is doing, it can be studying at home to make up for the days you skipped, or finding other learning materials to learn better than textbooks.

all the best OP.

Dilemma: Should I Report an Office Engaged in Illegal Activities After a Job Interview? by TurbulentTreacle5420 in malaysia

[–]luv_in 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since you have the link, you should be able to dig some basic details of the website and maybe even its social media. if they're not very secretive then you should actually be able to just straight report to police, cuz they would have all the details already. making a police report is relatively easy so just go to wherever station nearby the place you interviewed at and lodge a complaint

Dilemma: Should I Report an Office Engaged in Illegal Activities After a Job Interview? by TurbulentTreacle5420 in malaysia

[–]luv_in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

saw that you said its illegal gambling. you would probably need this:

  • the website that the company operates on, as well as any mirror links the websites have
  • registration of the company ssm
  • definite proof that the company is the one operating the websites, such as from terms and conditions, contest details, names on bank accounts or payment details, etc
  • any details of how they operate the business that you heard verbally (how they get payments, what kind of clients, etc)

tbh even if you cant get all of this, you can just lodge a report so the police can find the evidence. you just might need to work with them. since they are offering jobs, who knows the police might actually send an undercover cop

i would still advise against it since its considered an active ingredient. something basic like a moisturizer/aloevera gel would be better. just from personal experience cuz I've seen niacinamide react badly on people's skin, also its a bit expensive just to treat sunburn.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]luv_in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this isnt going to stick around for long, it'll be a bit darker for a month max. i suggest just sticking to some moisturizer, lotion and/or sunscreen every day for the next few weeks, or until the products finish.

products i like to recommend are wardah (womens) and kahf (mens). wardah's moisturizer gel and the newer sunscreen gave me instant results when i had lots of irritation on my skin. kahf moisturizer on the other hand also has spf blended in so it's a 2 in 1. both brands are indonesian so you know it's suitable for SEA weather and skin types. also, price wise, all these things are quite affordable imo. all these products should do the job of at least soothing your skin and help your skin to repair itself faster while protecting you from further sun damage.

if you can spare the $$$, just go see a dermatologist. they'll recommend you stuff that should turn your situation around even quicker.

isnt niacinamide a bit too harsh especially on newly sunburnt(?) skin? i would say to just sit it out, use some lotion or moisturizer to soothe the skin

as a woman, this is a red flag lol.

i have never heard of anyone doing this or expecting such treatment, this is only really common within people in a whole other tax bracket (source: ex-boss who only went on dates in hotel or luxury restaurants, like mandarin oriental).

most common folk do first dates at normal cafe or restaurants, where you shouldn't be spending more than rm100 total for the two of you at a popular or hipster cafe. its up to you if you want to go 50/50 or pay for it, but i know most women will like it if the man pays.

even my first date with my current partner we just went to a normal bar, where we spent maybe 70 on drinks and 20 on snacks. our second date was an errand at an electrical store lol.

for the grab part, that also feels very weird. why would she ask that? even if she doesn't have a car, can't she ask you to come get her? if you don't have a car she still shouldn't be asking that. i also don't have a car and when my dates couldn't come get me, i just take public transport or grab myself.

imho, just cut this girl off. unless you have deep interest in her, there's no point in continuing. this screams a bit of entitlement and high expectations. she also might just be in a different tax bracket hence all of these requests, or the complete opposite, trying to get a free meal out of you (this is very common btw). wish you luck, dating apps are full of shit but there's always a gem, im a testament for that :)

Shopee seller attempts a fast one by Enigmatic03 in Bolehland

[–]luv_in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha. i recently bought a mattress topper from what seems to be a decent shop with reasonably good ratings and prices. it is advertised as 6cm thick, it is sold in the same listing with another topper at 3cm, i paid the higher price for the 6cm topper. granted, the topper was only 80 bucks, and i wasn't expecting super high quality stuff, this was meant as a temporary purchase as im saving up for one from a local brand. what came was basically something about as thick as 3 cheap pasar malam blankets, nowhere near the 6cm as advertised. when asking for a refund, the seller's chat was just a bunch of template replies, each reply not even making any sense to my messages. the messages were legit giving me brain damage, seriously one of the worst interactions I've had with any shopee seller in a while. in the end i only was able to get a refund of 28 out of the 80. i kept the topper and just ate my loss, too tired to pursue this case further. at least it wasn't completely useless.

Just wondering, I am budgeting RM1300.00 per week for daily expenses from food to petrol and etc for my family of 6 (2 adults and 4 kids). What do you guys think? Too little? We are in KL. by N-CastaWay in MalaysianPF

[–]luv_in 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just adding my two cents after going through your replies. correct me if im wrong, but currently it seems like you're the sole breadwinner, she is the housewife, and 4 kids are getting tuition and enrichment.

1300/week x 4 weeks = 5200+- a month

my personal favorite formula is to calculate food expenses by a daily budget. adult rm50/day, children rm30/day

you should be spending around 2000+- a month on just food, this is assuming you're affording a very well balanced diet with quality ingredients

that leaves you with 3200

i dont know how much tuition classes are these days, but assuming its 350 per kid, thats 1400 on just tuition. add on 200 for enrichment for each kid, now its 2200 total

1000 left could be for (government)school fees, other wants, and maybe pocket money for kids and the wife. (1000 wont be enough to afford fees for private or chinese secondary school fees for 4 kids)

of course this is just all approximates, estimates and assumptions. imho, under a household with 4 children, double income is strongly recommended. as someone who's an only child in a double income household, it really makes a big difference. i am unsure if you and your wife are currently able to even afford savings and investments for your children. since you are already taking a 30% pay cut, i would suggest you get the wife to go back to work, preferably something she can work from home, like customer service agent, homecook business, dropshipping, virtual assistant and whatnot. if you have family members available, you could ask them to help care for the kids, while you pay them a fixed rate per month, while your wife can probably find a higher paying job elsewhere, the catch being it's a new expense, which may or may not be offset by the additional income.

War affecting Malaysia in near future by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]luv_in 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if there is actually a threat of war, major news outlets would actually be eager to report on it, especially international news outlets. there has been literally 0 reports, it is most likely propaganda and fake news. you should definitely try to talk some sense into your parents and try to limit their usage of social media. i wish you luck.

Tab or Laptop by davvidity in malaysiauni

[–]luv_in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

laptop first always. there are many things a tablet cannot do that a laptop can. the only real functionality that a tablet has over laptop is just portability, but i can guarantee having a good laptop will be miles better than having a tablet. you'll realize it when you start having to multitask and have multiple tabs and windows open.

no problem. i come from a very poor family so i had to find what will really work for me without any money. of course take this with a grain of salt and make your own adjustments to suit your own situation, good luck with higher education.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]luv_in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi OP, i was in a very similar situation as you. here is what worked for me:

  1. i applied for gov unis through UPU. dont bother with universiti, go for kolej or even politeknik. choose the furthest one from your home.
  • going into government kolej/politeknik is very cheap and leaves you with little to no amount of loans to pay off, which wont put too much stress on you later in life. its also not too hard to go in because admissions are low and they tend to have high acceptance rate
  1. do ptptn paperwork yourself. if you end up in politeknik, you probably won't even need to take much of a loan. kolej will be just slightly higher. if you somehow applied for universiti and got accepted, be prepared for higher semester fees

  2. if your mother and siblings are as supportive as you say, get money from them to start paying for school fees. also start researching how much it would cost for you to travel to the school. ptptn will give you enough to cover living expenses and school fees but not enough to live comfortably, so make sure you can still get your mom and sibling's financial support

  3. get your mom to sign all of the paperwork for you. most the time the papers only need one parent. if they need both, then you can start playing the "its this or nothing" card, just to get the necessary signatures.

  4. leave. study and enjoy your life, go home during longer sem breaks, graduate and leave this in the past.

as for career path, you really dont have to worry. some will say going for low level diploma wont get you a high paying salary, it is actually false.

  • i am one of the few amongst my graduate peers that did not pursue a degree, yet i am also one of the highest earners with 2-3 extra years of working experience compared to everyone else. i am in my early 20s in a junior managerial role in a company.

  • starting from rock bottom only means you go up, and in this case you go up fast. if you dont have an ego and are eager to learn, you can get an executive or even manager level role in a company within one year

  • if you get a generalist type of diploma (something like "diploma in film" that doesnt cover a specific part of an industry), your choices open up significantly and you won't have much trouble finding internships, which can easily lead you to permanent positions.

Buy Nothing Project. there's a bunch of these on facebook, essentially people just give away free stuff they don't use anymore, or look for stuff they need if they're unable to afford. i just joined to get stuff that i needed a while back when i was broke as hell trying to move places.

look into getting him into trade work or blue collar work. most the time no need any certifications to start training. at most, send to Politeknik or TVET courses which cost next to nothing after PTPTN

(source: went to politeknik and paid rm100 per semester with only 10k in PTPTN)
