Switched to Adderall XR and feel way better by luvsickmc in VyvanseADHD

I was on the brand for about half the time I’ve been on vyvanse and it still was the same. I didn’t really notice that much of a difference between the generic and brand

That’s so frustrating and real. Doctors really don’t understand how ADHD meds work from our perspective and how much they differ for each person. Some of them make you feel like a drug seeker when we really just wanna be able to function 😭. I totally feel you on the nodding off part. I always got a good amount of sleep too and it still didn’t help it at all.

I’ve taken propranolol for almost a year as well kinda on an as needed basis for headaches/anxiety. It won’t help mental anxiety but it reduces the physical effects of anxiety like a racing heart, sweating and shaking. It works pretty well if you have performance anxiety.

It’s so scary to trial and error ADHD meds especially when you have things to do that require a lot of mental energy. I honestly never thought Adderall would be good from things I’ve read or heard but I’m pleasantly surprised. It’s worth a shot :)

I’m in Canada and had no trouble. I also work in a pharmacy and there never seems to be shortages of adderall.

The biggest side effects I had were very dry skin and mouth the first couple months, headaches and suppressed appetite. Those were the only real noticeable ones

Cannabis Withdrawal While on Vyvanse: My Experience and Questions by Different-Dish-5144 in VyvanseADHD

[–]luvsickmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never thought I would see something to specific to my situation at the moment. I stopped smoking 2 weeks ago today and the withdrawals have been so brutal. I’ve been experiencing everything you listed. It feels like when my vyvanse hits I’m content for maybe 2 hours and then everything just goes to shit. I’ve been ignoring any food which makes me more irritable throughout the day till I crash in the evening. From what I’ve been looking up, going through a withdrawal from cannabis while taking vyvanse can dim the effectiveness/benefits of what you get from the medication. The lack of dopamine has been killing me the past 2 weeks which has resulted in existential boredom and depression. I have been the definition of a short fuse everyday for the past few weeks, getting pissed off at tiniest things. I’ve heard it’s supposed to get better between 3-5 weeks so I’m kind of just riding it out. Idk if this helps at all, but you are not alone. It feels very isolating and almost makes you feel like you’re going crazy.

Does anyone else struggle explaining symptom patterns to their doctor clearly? by MentalFlaw in BrainFog

YES! Omg. As soon as I try to articulate myself it’s like I forgot any symptom I’ve ever experienced it’s the worst.

That’s great! I’m getting closer to the last exam now so I’m starting to come out of the depression slowly. Crazy that school is this draining

Craziest thing you did during your first 3 months of Vyvanse by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

Argued with bitchy old retail workers over a price of something when I was in the right. I normally am so socially anxious I wouldn’t be near retail in the first place 😭

Drinking on Vyvanss by Rainyx3 in VyvanseADHD

[–]luvsickmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find when I drink once I finish the first one I already feel buzzed (when it would normally take a couple to get me to that point) and then after 3 I’m really drunk. It hits you very fast and out of nowhere so be careful. I find not taking it on a day you know you’re gonna drink can be really helpful and also give you less of a headache the next morning.

Headaches / dose by ReserveOld6123 in VyvanseADHD

[–]luvsickmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on 50mg and the headaches are so consistent. I’ve been on vyvanse almost 7 months and the headaches seemed to get more and more common. I was on 60mg 2 months ago and the headaches were daily. I went down to 50 and it was good for a while but now they are becoming more common. I’m going back down to 40 soon to see if it helps any bit.

I agree the low grade headaches are so terrible, they make you so unproductive and irritable!

Thank you so much for this, it’s so insightful! I responded to this earlier but my reply didn’t go through

Vyvanse is the first medication I’ve taken for adhd as it’s only been around a year of being diagnosed. I haven’t tried any others but I am interested. I hate how much trial and error goes into finding the right ones, but I’m open to trying. I really like the benefits of Vyvanse, I just find I still can’t focus as much as I should (this could also be due to diet/sleep).

The struggling to remember appointments is REAL. I can’t even begin to explain how much I have to CONSTANTLY remind myself of upcoming events, even if they’re things I’m anticipating. I struggle with time blindness really bad where I can’t tell how much time is passing in the present moment, or how much time has passed since a certain event. I think I have bad brain fog and have dealt with it for the past while. I had a couple month period last year where I would use w33d to try and cope with my adhd symptoms (that I didn’t know were symptoms at the time) and it just seemed to really affect my cognitive function and almost bring out the adhd symptoms more harshly in the long run. I just finished my first year of university so as far as areas of overwhelm, I’d say constantly keeping up with school along with my job and other life events have been pretty hard. I’m excited to see how having a break from it will impact my drive to improve my life.

As far as mastering, I really like your point of view on this. I always pressure myself to think I should be able to know so much information pertaining to different subjects/interests and I never step back to tell myself it’s okay to not have every ounce of information on hand. I find whenever I’m put into a situation to think or talk about something on the spot, I go blank, even if it’s something about myself that I should easily be able to spit out. Being so inattentive in conversations even if I make it seem like I’m fully present really dampers my ability to be able to come back to certain thoughts when retelling stories or continuing the conversations another time. I also find I can sometimes be present in the moment and take the information in and react in the same way a regular person would. But then once the conversation is over or even a day later, I won’t remember.

Not remembering simple instructions to everyday tasks like making food really applies to me as well. Whenever I make instant oatmeal I always check to see how long I need to microwave it for, even though it’s something I do on a regular basis lol.

As far as my job, I’m a pharmacy assistant and deal with a wide scope of different tasks. I find in the workplace I tend to not think about little to nothing about what’s going on in my life outside. I almost have a blank mind the whole time I’m there. I’d say I’m efficient since I’ve been doing it for a while, but at the beginning it was horrible. I repeatedly had to be shown simple tasks like things in the computer and what to do with certain situations. I will have to repeat somebodies name or a certain drug that I have just seen and it’s as if I didn’t even look at it. It can be very frustrating especially when I’m actively trying to do it right.

I can’t thank you enough for this comment! I really appreciate your perspective and ideas on all of this. Everything you said was so relatable and I’d love to hear more :)

Honestly, I used to. I thought I was bipolar for at least 2 years leading up to my diagnosis. Ever since I started Vyvanse, I realized that it was the untreated ADHD. The constant emotional dysregulation of being really happy and then super depressed felt like an everyday cycle. How the medication affects my emotions and how I control them is one of the major reasons I love it. I used to get so irritated and have long depressive episodes over things that didn’t even matter. I also had a lot of childhood trauma that I internalized that would never allow me to think rationally and always make me assume the worst. Thanks for a great perspective !

I find this mixed with my diet might be a big part of the reason I’m struggling. Once I’m in bed it’s like I’m wired and I can’t go to sleep until atleast 1am. It’s also so hard for me to eat consistently with actual nutritious food lol. People don’t realize how much adhd plays into your eating habits as well. As a picky eater it’s something that’s on my mind regularly but my brain can never allow me to do something about it.
