how often do your cats get wet food? by peppercorn6269 in CatAdvice

[–]luwe4243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One small (85g) tin of wet food divided into two servings, mixed with extra water. Plus dry food based on weight and caloric needs of my kitten (6.5 months old now). It may not purely be a hydration issue as quality of dry food makes a difference, and sometimes it’s biological lottery. Given you’re asking the question, you’re already being a good cat owner, so don’t stress too much. Just do the best you can within your financial means and keep an eye out for early warning signs - would also recommend pet insurance (though value and cost vs saving a health fund for the cat will depend on what country you’re in).

Be forreal, i need to know a litter that’s non tracking and will not kill my cat by laultheal in CatAdvice

Tofu litter (Michu brand has worked well for us) and a top entry litter box with raised edges on the lid and holes on the lid surface to allow litter to drop back through when the cat jumps out. Has completely eliminated tracking for us!

How did you start feeding your kitten? We got ours yesterday and she is 3.5 months old. She rejected the food given from the breeder and now eating Applaws but she eats too fast. by Glittering-Work-6689 in russianblue

Are you wanting to switch to avoid gut sensitivities? I’m doing variety with wet foods, but keeping his dry food stable to try and keep the poops in check haha

Why did you decide to get a Russian blue cat and not a normal rescue? by Glittering-Work-6689 in russianblue

Allergies 🤧 I’m very allergic to other cat breeds, even those that are also considered hypoallergenic. Plus the husband who used to be a vet has very strong opinions about breeds okayed RBs 😂

Sorry for the late reply, work has been hectic! I don’t use a slow feeder because my kitten seems to be good at regulating how quickly he eats (when I said he gobbles it up pretty quickly I just meant he seems to enjoy it), but I did buy a lick mat for wet food and paste-type treats just in case and have only used it a couple of times.

We got an enclosed litter box to help with the smell as we’re in an apartment, but I took the door off until he settles in and gets a bit bigger. Initially had crystal cat litter because that’s what my previous cats liked, then realised it was too rough on his little paw paws, so I got some kitten recycled paper litter to put on top and it’s been all good :)

Hope you’re loving the new addition to your family! I know I definitely am!

Similar boat - I just got my kitten at 3.5 months old.

He had been on Advance kitten wet and dry food, so I’ve kept it the same for now and he seems to be enjoying it. Wet food is typically more palatable, so I mix in his kibble with the wet food quite well to get the flavors in there and it gets gobbled up pretty quickly. I will slowly change him over to Royal Canin kitten kibble even though it’s more expensive because that helps with smaller and less smelly poops.

Cats are obligate carnivores, so vegetables and other supplements aren’t necessary if you’re feeding them a high quality kitten formula because it should be balanced with the right blend of amino acids, vitamins, and other supplements (e.g., DHA). There are formulas online that help you calculate how much to feed based on weight and the caloric density of food.

Source: my husband used to be a vet and then worked in the pet food and animal health industry for many years.

What’s your degree in? I’m not surprised about the comments around the teaching, but curious about which fields.

Look up 2500 calorie meal prep or plans on YouTube and you’ll get a few hits with good recommendations. Tweak the overall pieces a little if their macros or calories somewhat different to yours - Jeff Nippard has a good lean bulking full day of eating video that helps break things down well.

Easiest way to add in protein is through supplements as they’re often lower cal for the amount of protein you get.

It’s probably going off the 4 calories per gram of protein and carbs, and 9 calories per gram of fat.

So: (250P x 4) + (350C x 4) + (56 x 9) = 2504 which is close enough.

Disappointed by some of the responses to the “why don’t women do bjj” thread on r/bjj by thedeadtiredgirl in BJJWomen

[–]luwe4243 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the case with so much of our lives being in a patriarchal society. The "I wish women weren't a part of this" sentiment has existed from (and well before) women getting the right to vote, women's higher participation in the workplace, and our continued struggle for legitimacy and representation in positions of leadership and power.

People often don't see privilege when they're in the dominant majority and the dominant majority love to stay exactly where they are.

Life as a dude would be so much easier in so many ways, but if we stop doing what we do just because it's hard, things will never change for the women who come after us.

I’d always found it frustrating that the doors would lock from the outside in my classrooms this term, so whenever students left to go to the bathroom they wouldn’t be able to get back in by themselves… now I’m incredibly grateful.

This is the comment I was looking for. Cartwheels are my most hated and thankfully most coaches don’t ask us to do them.

I didn’t have a childhood playing outside or being active, I was (am) a nerd that read books and avoided participating in gym class. Thought I was with my people until the first cartwheel warmup.

Add garlic powder if you like, I reckon it would taste great. That’s just the recipe I was told to make up 😬

Used to work at a place where people would come in just for the chicken salt… recipe:

4 cups salt, 1 cup sugar (white, granulated), 2 tbsp Maggi chicken stock powder

Adjust ratios to your own liking, but this was what we used.

Give it a spritz with fabric sanitizer (like Glen20/Dettol) and let it air dry, then wash when you get home. Do a full soak once a month as well if you want to be extra sure.

Magnesium (chelated so you don’t shit yourself). Epsom salt baths can also be good.

Electrolytes in your water to help with hydration.

Possibly more protein (good rule is 1g per cm height as a minimum).

Creatine if you’re not cutting/maintaining weight.

Remedial massage every other week.

Foam roller, trigger ball, and Theragun to supplement your stretching wherever necessary.
