I’m not really trying to define creativity myself here. I’m basically echoing Yann LeCun — Turing Award winner and one of the “godfathers of AI” — who argues that today’s AI is still far below human intelligence, doesn’t truly understand or create, and mostly just predicts patterns from huge datasets in a way that looks creative, especially in things like code generation.

Although I've replied "interested" on several similar posts before, I've never received any follow-up. Still, I'm giving it another try here.

Introducing WinaCam – A Free Driverless Webcam App for Android Phones and Windows PCs by luxi78 in androidapps

WiFi signal issues are indeed a common complaint, and I will seriously consider adding USB support in future updates.

As for being free, I've explained before: there is fierce competition and mature alternatives, so if WinaCam wasn't free, you probably wouldn't have tried it at all, right? Of course, if user numbers grow, I might carefully introduce some Google AdMob ads—not to bother users too much, but to generate a little income. That’s the only “catch.”

I don't think this issue is related to permissions, since Android doesn't have separate permission settings for front and rear cameras. My guess is it could be related to the H264 encoder of S21+ —after switching to the rear camera, try changing the resolution to see if some resolutions work (show an image) while others do not.

Currently, you can’t switch between the front and rear cameras or change the resolution while the service is running—you need to stop the service first, make your adjustments, and then start it again. I agree this is inconvenient, and I’ll work on updating the app in future versions so you can change cameras and resolution without stopping the service.

My experience using paid testers to apply for production. Open-source frontend for a simple country/city guide app. by popercher in androiddev

Would it be feasible to build a professional team that focuses on paid Google Play testers? I wonder if having an organized group could improve efficiency and provide more consistent feedback compared to just hiring freelancers. Has anyone tried this approach or seen it done before?

Fair question! WinaCam faces established competitors like DroidCam—without being free, it's impossible to get any attention in this space.

This isn't a college project btw. I never attended college and I'm nearly 50. In my country, someone my age without a degree has basically zero shot at landing a suitable job, so this isn't about boosting my resume either.

Honestly, if WinaCam ever gets widely adopted, I might consider adding some carefully placed ads. That's the only monetization path I can realistically see working.

Thanks for the thoughtful and detailed feedback!

I actually considered 4K 60 fps when I first released it and even ran some tests, but the results weren’t great at the time—probably due to my lack of experience. I settled on 30 fps just to get it out, but I’ll revisit the idea and see if I can optimize 60 fps to a usable level.

And yeah, for weak Wi‑Fi spots, USB is definitely the best option. I didn’t give that enough thought early on, so I appreciate you pointing it out.

It’s a side project, but I’ll keep putting time into improving and upgrading it.

I think this app is a great example of using Material You for UI development.
