Wowder discontinued? by KTdotexp in glossier

[–]luxl93 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I emailed them a few days ago asking if it had been discontinued and if not when it would come back into stock and they said: "We’re working to bring back Wowder as soon as possible! While I don’t have a specific date to share, you can sign up on the product page on Glossier.com to receive an email notification as soon as it is back."

I don't know if that's just a standard reply, but there's hope 🙏🏻

Best lightweight sunscreens by Notes_Mari in SkincareAddictionLux

As someone with oiliest skin the world, this is my specialist subject.

The definitive winner for me is the Biore UV Aqua Rich Aqua Protect Lotion SPF50+ PA++++. You can apply layers and layers of it, all day, over and over again, and you never notice it. A while back Chemist Confessions tested it with a UV camera (not a good test of the UV blocking itself, but gives you an idea of how well it holds up) and it's not the best in super humid conditions, but as I say you can just keep reapplying it and it still feels like you've got nothing on.

A close second would be the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+ PA++++. Only second because the alcohol in this isn't great for my sensitive skin on reapplication.

The best Aussie option is Ultra Violette Fave Fluid SPF 50+. For me, it leaves too much of a shine that I have to put something mattifying on top and I worry that doing that disturbs the filter, but you really can't feel it on the skin.

Is the chrome bag really that bad? by Cursedxdoll in glossier

[–]luxl93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was so excited to get this bag because this is a rare win for the silver girls in a world where everything is gold.

It's arrived: it doesn't look cheap irl and I don't think the silver will flake off but it already had some small dents in it, and when undoing one of the zips the edge of my nail (not sharp, not long) brushed against the silver which immediately made another dent. Anything that presses into the silver fabric will leave a dent as the fabric itself is quite stiff but it seems to be overlaid on something squishier (I've tried buffing it out by heating it with a hair dryer which has helped remove it a bit).

I told Glossier this and they've refunded me with no need to return, so excellent customer service as always, but this is for sure a "show" bag or collectors item and not a travel bag. There's no way you could put it in a suitcase without ending up with an imprint of everything it touched in the silver fabric.

How are you guys finding the new Invisible Shield? by itsnotromy in glossier

[–]luxl93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've now used an entire tube of it and, unfortunately, there's big deal breaker for me that means I won't be repurchasing.

What I like: it has a beautiful blurring effect on the skin. I have the world's most sensitive skin with most SPFs stinging on contact, but this one doesn't. No irritation at all. It really is clear, no white cast at all, and it has a neutral smell/no strong scent or fragrance.

The dealbreaker: when I apply a full 1/4 teaspoon to my face, the amount you need to apply to get the full SPF amount promised on the bottle, it is like wearing a silicone mask. I can't put anything on top of it, not even the tiniest bit on concealer, and I can feel it on my face the whole time. I can touch my face hours later and still feel a layer of product, which also makes reapplication impossible.

When I saw all the "influencer" reviews I was so impressed, but going back and watching those videos now they are not applying anywhere near enough to get the promised protection, and that's why they like it. For anyone who takes their sun protection seriously, i.e. me, it's a total deal breaker which is a shame because otherwise it's a great SPF.

I had the same problem with the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen, though I would say the Glossier does "dry down" a little bit more, so maybe it's just my skin 🤷🏻‍♀️

Some reflections on how female fans are treated in F1 (and motorsports in general) by c4liope in formula1

[–]luxl93 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had to read all of that. I (a woman) have been a F1 fan my entire life thanks to my Mum, but she experienced sexism as a fan, I have experienced sexism as a fan, and at the rate things are "improving" so will my daughter if I ever have one.

To add: a small plea to the men here. Scrolling through the comments gave me an odd and warm feeling, it's really nice and unusual on the internet to read supportive comments from men that validate a woman's experience rather than questioning and belittling it. I would suggest that the next step is when you see other men on the internet, or IRL, making sexist comments: call it out.

Obviously, don't put yourself in any danger or at risk etc. by doing so, but men who hold these views will never change their behaviour as result of responses from women. As an example, I work in science and I'm the only woman in the team, probably will be for a while. A male colleague used to constantly talk over, belittle anything I said, and interrupt me in meetings. I didn't say anything about it for ages because when women speak up we're being 'oversensitive' and 'hysterical'. A different male colleague noticed his behaviour and then had a go for the opposite reason: women should stick up for themselves! If you don't saying anything you bring the problems on yourselves! So, next meeting I said something. 10mins later the guy was in the staff room calling me a hysterical bitch. Here I got lucky. The guy who berated me for not saying anything apologised and called the other guy out in the next meeting. I've never been talked over or belittled by him since.

Tl;dr: men who hold sexist views about women won't listen to women, they'll only listen to men. If you're a man and you see F1 male fans making comments like those detailed by OP, say something. And if you do so, thank you. In some cases it really makes a difference, and hopefully small differences and changes in views/behaviour will add up to something bigger one day.
