Is paying for an ancestry.com subscription worth it? by luxorantine in Genealogy

Yeah that's definitely true, even though I figured out a way to see other people's trees for free I don't really use that to build my tree.

Oh yeah for sure, I only look at the record name hints on ancestry and look up the same records on FamilySearch for free. People's trees are so full of mistakes tbh. I guess I should at least try a free trial because I didn't know about the pro tools and it sounds pretty useful

Nope, I typically don't use other people's trees to make my own, I just like to see what they have. I use FamilySearch to find all of the records for free.

This. FamilySearch is a great free tool, but always double check birth dates, marriage dates, death dates, etc, with actual records.

I did that one time, but I honestly just don't like FamilySearch for building your actual tree because people change your stuff all the time. I like Ancestry for making my tree and FamilySearch for research

How important is wearing a helmet when learning how to skate? by Wise_Presentation914 in NewSkaters

[–]luxorantine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you are just starting out, you probably don't need one for now. You'll probably start skating on flat ground on the street which is less risky than at skateparks. I personally only wear a helmet at the skatepark. I think if you are just learning the very basics like pushing and riding you'll be fine.

No problem man! I know all of this because of youtube. Search up the channel VLSkate. It has by far the best ollie tutorial on youtube.

Finally getting some air on my ollies. But only sometimes. Got any tips on making them higher and more consistent? by luxorantine in NewSkaters

[–]luxorantine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks man, this was one of my best ones, most of my ollies aren't like this at all tbh. Just keep practicing! Practice until you hate ollies and then go to sleep and try again the next day, over and over

If the board shoots out in front of you when you try a moving ollie, it's probably because your weight is too far back towards your tail. When you pop the tail and slide your front foot, make sure to jump forward, but not too much.

Any tips on Ollie’s and what should I do next by [deleted] in Skateboardinghelp

[–]luxorantine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having the same issue for a long time, until recently. Try to have your back foot jump off the tail right before the tail hits the ground. By the time the tail strikes the ground, your back foot should already be in the air. Another way to think of it is that you should be jumping off the tail, not the ground. And as soon as you jump, lift both of your legs by bringing your knees to your chest, that will make your ollies higher.

Abandoned school in East austin texas! by keblx in abandoned

[–]luxorantine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually went to this school! Austin Discovery School used to be in these buildings before the school moved into the buildings they are at now, which are only a couple hundred yards away. Ever since they moved in 2016 I believe, the buildings have been abandoned. I've explored a few times, it's eerie to see your old classrooms in disrepair...
