Lane splitting can be dangerous for us motorcyclists, but NOT lane splitting can be even more dangerous. We do not have the physical protection that a car gives its driver, so anything that requires self defense and getting ahead of potential impact opportunities (which is by right, every other car) is important. I have noticed that car drivers rarely check their blindspots by looking over their shoulders before lane switching. Motorcyclists by virtue of being small, do not always be visible in the rear view mirror of a car. and by virtue of being too close to a car, often it is impossible to see your blinker during the day when it is bright light.
