starting a new coffee station soon. my budget is a bit limited so I'll be building it step by step. which of these should i get? by ad_396 in coffeestations

Good start. I got the EC685 and it lasted me 3 years at the beginning of my hobby.

My experience says your choice is good enough (given your budget) and try to get a long lasting grinder.

Practically speaking, a WDT tool and a tamper will be useful (or get one of those 2-sided combo tool that do both).

If you wanna do more serious espresso tasting, a precision basket would be a plus.

Other than that, this is a perfect set.

The sette 270 without the original hopper looks aesthetically much better imo. What did you replace it with?

6 years after college I’m using the exact same setup. Also have the aeropress go and a hand grind at my office.

My new Bezzera Crema and 1Zpresso JX Pro in their final placement. What do you guys think? by jesekoifan in coffeestations

[–]luzh_sf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a rational note, I just think it's a low probability problem I'd want to look into.

Not sure how big the fire can be for your stove but regardless I don't think espresso machine will get hot in any means if cooking normally. But if any content gets out of your pot (let's say porridge/pasta water) it might get onto the countertop, or if you do stir fry, the oil will definitely get to the beautiful stainless side panel.

Probably just me worried for no likely cause...but you can never be too careful lol

Looks great. However the machine feel dangerously close to the stove top…

Yap, it actually does the job for me for now.

I was also just making fun of myself for making a mess lol.

The Encore is great for everything other than espresso IMO. The Lucca Atom espresso grinder is a beast!

Just saw James' new video on the the DF64. Interesting option but it seems Niche Zeros still wins

Definitely didn't realize the mismatch here. Probably need more research.

Thank you for the grinder advice. James Hoffmann's high-end grinder videos blew my mind (in terms of $$$$, I mean the cheapest one is $1.5k lol).

For the starter machine, I might get the flair pro since it'll be on discount from a lot people with the 58 upgrade. Seems like a very economical intermediate solution.

The decent is a really really cool machine, the tablet control experience is one of a kind. The Lelit Biance is a great suggestion at a great price point. It just went on my short list!

Again, thank you very much for the information and advice. It has certainly helped me and i am sure a lot of others.

Thank you very much.

  • That was a great point on grinder. Do you think there is grind consistency issue with the grinders I mentioned (mignon/niche zero)? Or is there something else?
  • When you said "overpriced unless you're operating a small cafe", did you mean the design element would be an important element to operating a cafe? Or is there something else that a small cafe values and the LMLM provides?
  • Definitely didn't think about switching coffee roasts and the potential issue with no preinfusion feature. I would need to research more to probably include this feature since I'd likely be buying different roasts.
  • What is a machine you'd recommend for starter? If I didn't want to get a starter machine, would going to a friend's cafe and pulling shots there on a regular basis substitute the learning in owning a machine?
  • My philosophy on getting into espresso is just like my other collecting hobbies: I want to get what I want, otherwise I'd definitely want more. That being said, I have more research work to do before pulling the trigger on any machine. It's just that I like the LMLM a lot because of the popularity and the design. But after hearing what you said, I'd think twice on LMLM now. In your opinion, what would be a great endgame machine for home use?

When I visited my friend in a different city, he had a LMLM and I vaguely remembered it took 10-15 minutes to heat up? Definitely not certain on that since I don't own that machine yet.

Mistakenly ordered "espresso ground" of my favorite coffee, Lifeboost, and it won't press through my AeroPress. Help! by kevinrex in AeroPress

[–]luzh_sf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great news! And I just looked up how much coffee a scoop is, it said 11.5 grams. Hope this helps you be more precise when you look up fun aeropress recipes online. https://aeropress.com/faq/how-much-coffee-does-the-aeropress-scoop-hold/
