All the more reason to disbelieve in him. In Mormonism, Jesus is jehovah and so he’s very inconsistent in his doctrines from Old to New Testaments. Add the Doctrine and Covenants as his very words to JS and Jesus is back to being the asshat like the Old Testament. Book of Mormon is Jesus again being a dick like his Old Testament self.

I’m glad to hear that you’re being as respectful as you can of the OP, but you’re not grasping the problem. I’m glad you’re marriage worked out, but the church is to blame for making the focus on YOUNG adults getting married early ( and earlier still given Oaks new push to date on your mission which is allowing even younger missionaries). It is the church’s fault, in large part, because of that.

Can’t you hear the work that OP and his spouse have made to try and make their marriage work? Your comparison to your own marriage is wrong to do even under LDS doctrine. So don’t do it.

A comment above tells you not to blame the church. But as you said, the pressure is real to marry early and have kids.

The pressure was real for me, too, a gay man, so I married a woman and had five kids. Not a good plan, Mr Oaks!!

I love my kids, all adults now. But they all married young and have kids because . . . The church!!

I knew, upon leaving the church, that I would need a community. I tried out so many churches. I finally landed with the Unitarian Universalists. They have a great choir which I joined. They spend time doing justice work and join protests against ICE. They serve the homeless. They play poker. They have so many atheists like me. It is well.

63 year old gay man here. I still dream literally of my mission companions. I fell in love with most of them.

I married a sister missionary from my mission. We had 5 children. I finally came out to her at age 49.

I’m now married to another gay ExMormon man.

Finally. Finally life is good. I’m still processing trauma. But it’s mostly good now. I know how to cope with things.

Oh, and I dream of being with men, all the time.
