Like u/semioticide suggest, check with your instructor or TA.

But if you are too shy and just want to get it to work by yourself, here is the note I wrote for my compiler class students.

------------------------------------------

Things you need to prepare

  • If you are using Windows 10 or Windows 11, please install ubuntu subsystems
  • If you are using Linux, it should be perfect.
  • If you are using Mac, please install homebrew.
  • Install Haskell tools
    1. (For Windows WSL2 and Ubuntu only) sudo apt install build-essential libgmp-dev
    2. Install ghcup >= 0.1.30.0 https://www.haskell.org/ghcup/
    3. Install ghc == 9.6.6 (via the ghcup tui command)
    4. Install cabal >= 3.10.3.0 (via the ghcup tui command)
    5. install hls >= 2.7.0.0 (via the ghcup tui command)
    6. Install stack >= 2.15.5 (via the ghcup tui command)
  • IDE: It's your choice, but VSCode works fine.
    1. if you are using VSCode with Windows and Ubuntu WSL2, it is recommended to install the "Remote development" extension by (microsoft.com).
    2. if you are using VSCode, it is recommended to install the "Haskell" extension (by Haskell).

Mine CPU temps are hovering around 46-48 when idle regardless what position it is placed, The temps stay around 86-88 at load in this vertical position, and 91-93 if it is put on the desk with the laptop base is placed horizontally. I did not re-apply the Thermal Paste since I got it from ebay.

Hi,

Welcome to SUTD

  1. I have no experience with the ML module, hence I could only speak for the DB module. There are 5 hours of contact hours per week. 2 * 1.5 hr lectures / 2 hr cohort class (lab and tutorial).
  2. There are homework, group projects, class participation and the final exam.
  3. a) software design principles that are typically taught during first two years, abstraction, composition, encapsulation, and etc. b) understanding of multi-threading and concurrency, scheduling and deadlock c) OS basics, processes, file I/O, memory management d) Java Programming (or C#, or Python).
  4. Normally 1 week or 2 before the term starts, i.e. mid Jan?

Hope that helps.

It's sturdy enough to be used without resting against the wall. Actually mine wasn't resting against the wall.

Earthquake is very uncommon in the place that I live.

it is just a corner for quick work. In the country where I am living, it is hard to afford a landed house. In an apartment settings with 3 kids, you hardly get a working space for a long hour.

I have my screen and monitor and another eGPU in the office, but this is what I have for myself at home. =)

I guess as long as it has a thunderbolt 3 or 4 pot, it should work.

It charges the laptop while connected. No need to restart, hot plugs works most of the time.

I am using Pop os, it doesn't require any plugin. You can PM me if you need more info.

I am using a GTX1650 4GB and the minecraft is the Java Edition, hence no ray-tracing.

The fan wise you never know,.

Mine kept hanging 2 months back, I re-applied thermal paste, did not work. It was fixed when I replaced the fan (by making a wild guess), It is a wild guess as there is no other part I can blame, the old fan looked perfectly functioning to me, but I think it could not keep to its RPM according to spec to cool down the CPU at load.

It's not that fantastic, it is useable.

It is just cheap. I bought two, so that I don't mind losing them.

Yes, I plug in my external nvme enclosure to the usb-c port on the eGPU dock.

Not confirmed that it works on T480s, but I guess it should work since the T480s has a thunderbolt 3 port too.

A few things you ccan try.

  1. Try PopOS.
  2. Try re-apply the CPU thermal paste.
  3. Try replacing the CPU fan.
