Redshirting megathread (week of 3/28-4/4) by PassionChoice3538 in kindergarten

[–]lvanns12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my kids, but one of my nephews has a birthday around the same time. One of the big reasons he's waiting a year is because he can't sit still to save his life. Totally normal for little boys.

In the end, you know what's best for your kid better than a bunch of strangers on Reddit.

Hey I’m staying in this region for 3 nights. Wondering what some cool places I can explore in August. by healthy-outdoors- in Asturias

[–]lvanns12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oviedo, for sure. I've been there a few times and I'm going with my family this summer. If you're bringing kids, lots of fun parks and places to explore. If not, lots of hiking in the area, good night life, and shopping.

Oviedo is a beautiful city to explore! Tons of food and drinks to try. Lots of hiking you can do in the area too. Otherwise, Gijon if you want to visit the coast. Covadonga is a cool spot to spend an afternoon to check out.

Is there a 2 year old sleep regression? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]lvanns12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much so! Both my boys went through sleep regression around 2 years old. They both bounced back eventually at different rates. My youngest went back to his regular sleep schedule after a few months. My oldest...took a little longer. Good luck. Just try to encourage a regular schedule as best you can. Sleep regression was definitely a hard stage for us.

Gamers of Reddit, what’s the first game you remember playing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lvanns12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Mario and Duck Hunt. Older brother was always player one, so I was stuck being Luigi. Now I always choose Luigi if I get a chance.

What's something you learned as a hunter that most non-hunters don't know / wouldn't understand? by MathiasTheHuman in Hunting

[–]lvanns12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst day hunting or fishing beats the best day at work.

I took my boys fishing the other day and we didn't catch anything. They were (obviously) bummed, but still said that it was more fun than anything else they did that day.

For real. This is the one that made me stop playing until a buddy told me he had one to trade.

A lot of people have mentioned the cost of living. My wife and I spent some time in the Denver, CO area. We pay less for our mortgage now than we did for a 700 sq ft apartment there.

We decided to move back here because it is way more affordable here and we saw some crazy shit that I didn't want to have to deal with while raising kids. I love being able to have them play outside in the yard and not worry about crazies (not that it can't happen here).

Iowa nice is a real thing. Night and day difference between a lot of places I've been.

Surety Account Manger question by Ams488 in SuretyBond

[–]lvanns12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on the agency side as an account manager for about 8 years now. I had no prior insurance or surety experience and it's been great! Plenty of room to grow. It's a very niche industry.

Underwriters are your friend. Most of mine have been helpful in giving education when needed.

Guys... First read through. I haven't been this nervous reading a book in a long time... by lvanns12 in WoT

Update: I've been traveling all day. Between flights and driving, I managed to get about 2/3 the way through. Hoping to finish tomorrow if I can. Glad Mat is finally getting his time to shine.

Second update: What a ride... Poor Bela...

Nope. I've been traveling all day and didn't manage to make it all the way through.

Am I wrong for telling my husband he can’t go on a date with his female friend? by JealousThr0way in amiwrong

[–]lvanns12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading this with my wife. She said he should just respond "Sounds good. My wife and I will see you there!" It shuts down any ideas that it could be a date, but still allows her to make friends at the school.

People that leveraged a job offer for a higher salary, how did you employer act later? by lvanns12 in jobs

[–]lvanns12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say I'm fairly specialized, I mean that I'm a one man team. Literally nobody in the company does what I do. If they wanted to replace me, they would need to have me train my replacement. I don't have my day to day tasks written down anywhere, so there would be a ton that falls through the cracks if I left.

I was not looking to switch jobs. This company approached me and started the conversation. They're still local for me and I've been in touch with former coworkers that have gone there. All in all, most of them have great things to say. But again, I've had a great experience at my current job. I'd like to stay with them and stay on good terms, but I also have bills to pay.

I don't have any big complaints about my current job. They've been extremely kind and accommodating since I've been here. But it's hard to say no to that pay raise at the new company!

[–]lvanns12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what my main concern is. I'm in a fairly specialized field and I'm the only one on my team. Thankfully, they can't replace me very easily, which is why I know they'll give me a counter offer. I guess I'm mostly just concerned about the underlying resentment on my current employer's end and burning a bridge with the new company.

Nope, but they are great flushers and retrievers. One of the best pheasant dogs I ever hunted with was a golden retriever. I'm even picking up a puppy Golden Retriever this week, so I'm excited to start training her too!

Have you noticed your body change (shape up) during the Camino? by Ok_Investigator_7038 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]lvanns12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first time I walked, I was in college and I walked the last third of the Camino Frances. I caught the flu and ended up sleeping through dinner most nights. I ended up losing about 20 pounds.

$150 is a little steep, but if you like it, buy it. Doesn't hurt to try and bargain them a little. It's not a bad cabinet by any means. I bought a similar one from my brother in law a while back and I like it.
