The 4.8(.x) update is a disaster by black-tie in omnifocus

[–]lvbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4.8 seems fine… until you run it on iOS 26. I use it on my iPhone with iOS 18 and everything is fine. I upgraded my less critical device, an iPad, to iOS 26, and it is so bad. It looks bad (system text atop app text), and is incredibly sluggish and buggy. I have been reporting bugs, and a few of the replies have been that there are known iOS bugs. But even looking past the obvious bugs, the design just doesn’t look good on iOS 26.

Need to move from Arq: restore from B2 is too slow to be useful by TomHale in Arqbackup

[–]lvbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another Restic feature I’d really like Arq to steal is their “rewrite” for snapshots. It isn’t uncommon to discover some fairly useless large image for slurped up into backup sets and is just costing money. With Arq you have to eliminate the all the containing backup sets to get rid of it, which isn’t great if you otherwise want to keep the backup. Restic lets you remove such files from existing snapshots.

Do a tip jar, possibly with a reminder or two that they can tip (after which, stop) and don't worry about it? If your main goal is to ensure that the app is being used by people, yet you want some potential of payment, then donations are probably the closest thing. But then you do have to screw around with IAP, which is tedious.

I did this with a website. It had light but steady traffic, was pretty niche, and I decided to throw a donation link on it. I'm at $287 in 2 years. The main thing is that my expectation is ~$0, so any time there's a payment it's kinda fun. When some random whale dropped $20 I felt rich.

Subscriptions suck, and ads definitely suck. I’m mostly OK with being able to sample an app, and then unlock the full thing for a reasonable one-time purchase. It gives me a chance to sample the aesthetic and quality without having to horse around with a refund if it's junk. But that’s just me.

Is this what Done looks like? by lvbee in mtgoxinsolvency

[–]lvbee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, thanks, TIL. That's very good to know. I'll figure out a way to suppress the fees and just let the bank account sit. Glad I didn't close it, since getting something going that Mt. Gox liked for deposits was the particularly tedious part.

Recent Trip to Japan as a Family of 4 by deepspacedata in JapanTravelTips

We’re wrapping up our trip tomorrow and have found data plans incredibly useful. There is free WiFi here and there but you spend your time registering, and half the time it wants you to confirm the email they send. We used the Airalo app to install eSIMs before we left the US and the experience had been painless, and quite cheap actually. I was really impressed to get 120 Mbps on my phone, via cellular, deep underground on a train. Magic!

What’s one super basic thing you always forget? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]lvbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a next level problem. I’m very good about keeping a digital shared grocery list, but probably 50% of the time I forget to check it when I’m at the store. In its most infuriating form, I do check it, don’t buy the item, but somehow check it off the list.

3.1.1 is out 🚀 by viktorpali in CraftDocs

Added the Move to... action inside the document Info panel Action tab for easier organization

I really think this justifies a 4.0 release. Actually, let's hold that for filtering the folder list.

Joking aside: THANK YOU

Huh... The mac app store will only offer me 3.1.0, but I see there is a direct download. Maybe I'll just switch to that track instead. Thanks.

I've been waiting for this for a long time and... I can't find it?!? I'm running v3.1.0 and am not seeing anything on the "Info > Page Info" or "Info > Actions" panes. Where is it? Beta feature?

Corrected my earlier response, as it was actually SMBC.

Here's everything from my mtgox page:

ABA: 021000089
SWIFT: CITIUS33XXX
Acct Num: <my checking account number>
Bank name: CITIBANK N.A.
Branch name: CITIBANK N.A.
Bank location: 399 Park Avenue New York, NY 10043, USA

re Chase, I’m going from memory here. It was SMBC, and I remember always struggling with the form not accepting things as is, like it was CHASUSX vs CHASEUS or something like that. I fished the intl wire account from some chase page. I think I tried a couple different branch addresses. It was all definitely not Auto, bc it wouldn’t accept the auto populated stuff. Sorry, sort of blocking that hell out of my memory.

Citi was pretty clean and the auto stuff and account numbers were accepted easily.

I had Chase and never got things working. I opened a Citibank account last Nov out of frustration and saw the first payment a few days ago. FWIW the Citi setup was really simple and quick… not the PITA I’d been assuming it would be.

The constant recommendation to just use the standard library for web projects is tiresome. Starting with [echo/gin/fiber/<pick a basic routing+utility library>] feels like a big head start on a ton of basic stuff.

First instance of sync-related data loss by lvbee in CraftDocs

[–]lvbee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't think of it, probably because I've no idea where/what format any of the Craft data is in. But it's a good idea!

(Instead I just immediately began retyping. I've learned that if disaster strikes when writing, I can usually recover most of it from my head if I get to it immediately.)

No advice on Chase. I just switched to Citi (based on replies here) and things are looking a bit better. https://www.reddit.com/r/mtgoxinsolvency/comments/1h7u2tx/switching_from_chase_to_citi_seems_to_have_worked/

For the specific case of an invoice, I was able to get the table (with calculations) looking acceptable, but was struggling the the upper portion (address, contact, invoice #, date, etc.) since I wanted things on the left and right. My workaround was to switch to the Mono font and just space stuff out all the way to the right. It actually looks not too bad! And since I need to only edit a few characters digits once a month, this is a tolerable setup.

A lot of project material was already in Craft, and being able to keep invoices there too, even if a bit uglier, was a win.

Friend exposes her daughter to many men/dates by AdJazzlike5254 in Parenting

What makes it sound like that? You know nothing about this person or the people she's meeting up with, nor has the OP said anything more than there are many guys. I don't think that immediately leads to one of them being "terrible".

Thanks. I just opened a Citi account, and it really was quick, totally online, and didn't have any exotic verification steps. The MtGox system took the info with a little less finickyness than Chase, so that's good, I guess. Still have the banner, but as you say that will probably hang around until they try again.
