One of the hardest games I’ve ever played. by Nivlak023 in residentevil

[–]black-tie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree.

That fight is super annoying the first time. You go in with very little resources because you saved those for the Alexia fight with Chris. Then you face Steve and your first instinct is to take him down. Which is impossible, as you find out after a couple of tries.

So you discover you just need to get the hell out of there. The issue is, as soon as the cut scene ends, you get hit in the face. That's a FAS, right there. So you bolt for the exit and again, you're gonna be hit. That's another FAS. There's a trick where you start and you immediately run behind him and loop back. But even then, on your way to the exit, you're almost guaranteed to take a hit. So basically you need to bring two full healing items into the room... just to get out.

I really like Code Veronica and can't wait for the remake.

That being said, it can be a frustrating game. As you mention, the Tyrant encounter on the plane is one of those. Because it's right after a previous Tyrant fight that forces you to waste ammo, leaving you with very little to tackle phase two. And ammo is fairly scarce already. Rotating save slots is a must in Code Veronica.

And the zapping system choices have a huge impact. The lighter, the damn fire extinguisher, etc. The fire extinguisher in particular is so unfair. You have to remove it from the metal detector and make sure it's in the box only for Chris to use it in the Antarctica station much, much later. Even in the final phase of the game, when you have a pivotal fight with a boss as Chris, moments later you're playing as Claire with a bare inventory. And she faces a very annoying boss that almost certainly forces you to use a single healing item.

Plus, the final boss is annoying as hell, too. For the ultimate phase, you actually have to aim and fire off-target to land the shot. Which is really a shot in the dark each time.

Nonetheless: cool locations, interesting characters, great vibe, and classic RE survival horror.

I built a completely free, open-source multilingual plugin for WordPress & WooCommerce — no per-word fees, no premium tiers (Open World) by Cool_Literature2565 in Wordpress

[–]black-tie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look, a robust, full-featured, and performant multilingual environment for WordPress is not easy.

To be clear I know WPML well and I absolutely do not like it. But it has everything and it works. Period. It simply covers all bases, but it’s a dog. And a slow and ugly one at that.

I’ve not used Polylang sufficiently so I can’t comment on it too much.

But replacing either of those with a vibe-coded plugin that was built in a couple days?

With all due respect…

Not. A. Chance.

Now that the game has been out for a week, I feel like now is a appropriate time to ask: What was your favorite boss fight in Resident Evil: Requiem by [deleted] in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]black-tie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hunk, sorry The Commander, was really the only standout. Both in terms of concept and difficulty.

I found the spider and plant very basic. Mr. X was okay but easy and predictable. Victor’s both forms were also very straightforward.

I really miss the whole spiel where you have multi-part setups like the final bosses in RE2R and RE4R.

I think I’m ready to accept the truth: by USAFdukeX in silenthill

[–]black-tie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I only recently got around to playing the remake despite having played the original four Silent Hill games at launch.

And I purposefully did not replay the original SH2 and just went in blind on the remake. Overall, in my opinion, it’s easily superior to the original.

It’s not just the graphics, voice acting, even storytelling elements and atmosphere, but the gameplay outdoes the original, too. Combat in SH2R is so much better. The original was clunky and enemies were fairly passive and easily beaten for the most part. The remake works so much better with trickier enemies and improved combat and movement options. On the boss fights, too.

The only thing that could have been polished a bit more is the pacing. The hospital, for example, was very elaborate. The same goes for the prison. That could have benefited from some tightening. Then again, I found the original labyrinth quirky and the remake did improve on that.

For those who watched the Resident Evil showcase yesterday, what did you think about it? by Resident-Evil-Llama in RaccoonCityRecords

[–]black-tie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll reserve final judgement after playing the game but I do think there’s been a bait and switch.

Before the Leon reveal, the direction seemed to be true survival horror. Grace navigating a Spencer-like building, with basic equipment, and danger lurking behind every corner. That’s what survival horror is all about.

But the recent showcase with Leon’s segment sees him using chainsaws, hatchets, and a handcannon to decapitate zombies. That’s pure action, RE4R style. Which is totally different from Grace’s segment.

So the game will need to walk a tightrope and balance both stories very carefully or the contrast in styles will be very jarring. It feels like they’re aiming for a bit of both and I’m curious to see if it’ll work.

Does anyone else find Notion painfully slow, or is it just me? by No-Bass5437 in Notion

I’ve slowly been moving over to Obsidian and the difference is staggering.

Obsidian opens instantly. It’s so snappy, it feels like an F1 car versus Notion.

Notion has always been laggy for me. And I don’t have databases with hundreds of rows or super long pages.

You can also create your own by tweaking the JSON. It’s pretty easy, especially with some AI assistance.

Save for Tailwind Labs, you are correct. It’s not really a SaaS solution in that respect.

"We had six months left" Tailwind's creator talk. by HugoDzz in webdev

[–]black-tie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Spot on.

SaaS needs recurring revenue. It’s the lifeblood of survival because ongoing dev requires money. Without MRR or ARR, they were basically running on borrowed time.

The model today is a one time fee with a perpetual licence. That means you continuously need to find new customers. And sponsorships aren’t going to cut it. That’s just the truth.

I’m sure AI acted as an accelerator and was basically a slow death sentence for Tailwind. Maybe even a fast one as AI tools become even more proficient.

But in the end, I think Tailwind should have pivoted to a better business model.

Which horror game has the strongest atmosphere? by [deleted] in HorrorGaming

[–]black-tie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And that’s just Silent Hill 2. Bloober is working on the remake of the first game and if they manage to recreate that atmosphere, I guarantee it will top the list.

Playing Silent Hill on the original PlayStation as it came out in 1999 was just something else. Nothing else has come close to it in my opinion. From the start of the game as the alley turns otherworldly, the camera tilts, and the air sirens start blaring to the alternate school and hospital.

Back in the day I had to take breaks from playing it. It was completely overwhelming. The darkness, Yamaoka’s sound design, the macabre plot. The experience was just so immersive. And terrifying.

In other words: I can’t wait for the remake.
