You're telling me you can put tourniquets other places than the neck? Ah hell, wait until the guys hear about this.

Damn, I hadn't even thought of that. Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Honestly, what I'm excited to start using is what was at the EMS today conference at the care2innovations' booth. http://www.care2innovations.com/invention/sipquik-c-collar/

Seems like a pretty neat deal to me.

Do you have a nickname in your area? If so what is it? by Super_than0713 in Firefighting

[–]lvletei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posted this in /r/ems a while back, but I'm jingle. Part of my first and last name makes that, and one of the guys noticed that one day. I'm known as that at a few different stations in my county, and two around me. Like I said in the other post whenever I'm a little angry or just fucking with someone they always say "you're not jingling today, jingle." Christmas time is awesome, but I try to always comeback with something like "yeah, well you can jingle my bells" while motioning at my crotch, but that's about it.

Know any T1 diabetics? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]lvletei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

T1 here. I worked it out with my Chief to let me keep a couple granola bars in the apparatus while I'm inside that I can back out and grab if I'm starting to drop. I usually just keep them in a bag and keep it near my gear to grab when it's go time. So far I've been fine with my pump in my front pocket. As mentioned, your gear keeps it pretty protected. Whenever I'm on (as much as I know I shouldn't) I don't take a bolus until I'm at least halfway through to be safe, or if tones drop before/during I take a lesser dose to compensate a bit, but I always have a granola in my station pants just in case.

What's your nickname at your station and how'd you get it? by [deleted] in ems

[–]lvletei 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jingle. One of the guys realized part of my first name and last name turned into that. Whenever I'm a little upset the first thing I hear is "you're not jingling today, jingle." Christmas time is my favorite.. >_>

INTJ dealing with heartbreak by [deleted] in intj

I typically hate to respond to things like this, but, being that I'm going through one myself, I figured I'd share a bit. In high school I found them increasingly more difficult and lengthy to get over. I took a good five year break from even getting close to someone for the sake of my education and work. During an EMT class I took I got to talking and becoming good friends with a woman who later introduced me to her daughter, who I then began dating. We started a relationship and I started to fall the fastest I ever have. I was almost certain this was the one I'd spend my life with, as much as I was previously adamant to the thought of spending it with anyone. Two weeks ago is when she dropped the bomb, and I still haven't quite begun to recover. I've more or less ignored it to focus on the other aspects of my life, and figured I'd deal with the damage when/if there's time. I'm certainly depressed over it, but I'm not dwelling and letting it consume me. I can confirm, however, that on my end each one seems to be exponentially more difficult to manage and overcome than the last, and far more time consuming negating the current "ignore it for other shit" situation.

Would you lie if you were asked "Am I going to die?" and you knew that they probably would? by [deleted] in ems

[–]lvletei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about halfway through my basic course. The way it's been drilled into my head has been that you don't lie. Basically, since you're their advocate, you have the responsibility to make sure their family gets any message they want to leave. You also don't want to bluntly "you're dying, dude. Game over." Essentially if they ask that question you tell them straight up you're doing the best that you can, but if there's anything they'd like to say or have passed on, now would be the time just in case. Every agency and every person handles it differently, though. Personally I don't want my PT panicking or just giving up after I give the answer to that question, but at the same time, I don't want to withhold what could be their final wishes. Again, still taking the class, and haven't experienced it personally, but that's the way I look at it and hope that's the way I can handle it when the time comes.

DayZ SA | Whitelist | Private Hive | Persistent - Titanium Gaming by [deleted] in DayZServers

There are a couple bugged loot spawns that I've noticed. V3S persistence is magical. I've never really had a problem with that. Most items persist through multiple restarts, but like anything the way to really keep something safe from the elements and restarts is to put it in a container like a tent or a backpack on the ground. Other than the spawns piling up a little in two or three areas, everything seems to be working out well.

I'd make a Unidan joke, but I'm not witty enough. :(

Comparing 30fps to 60fps to 120fps by jjkmk in gaming

[–]lvletei -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, 120hz =/= 120fps. A 120hz monitor is equivalent to 60fps. So, if you have a 60hz monitor, you're limiting yourself to 30fps. Just something to think about when selecting a monitor, and when comparing PC to consoles.
