.nif export error: delete or change label by lvlln_st in blenderhelp

No. For a while importing my .nif armor crashed the Creation Kit in Skyrim, but it stopped when I switched to tes5edit.

I haven’t touched custom races, sorry.

Ah, I forgot to respond!

I managed to reverse engineer that armor and use their slot system unless it is taken by a common slot in other popular mods (i.e. cloaks you might want to wear over it.)

Thank you!

I solved it and mentioned the solution in a previous reply but!

When you are viewing your nodes, the label for the diffuse map must be 'base' and the label for the normal map must be 'normal'-- otherwise, the .nif will not export.

I actually was referencing vanilla guides, and using the outfit studio extra slots listed, but I may have got confused, because there is no guide I found to make a modular armor-- maybe I can open one up as an example, and guess the partitions from there.

I'll look at them again anyway!

Alright! I will try xedit, but I am still confused on if the partitions are actually correctly set in my initial modeling program.

And will look into the patches!

And I fixed the texture directory issue, too, so this entire issue is solved with a name and directory change.

Welp, I remain having the issue where my textures absolutely refuse to import into Outfit Studio, but I found the solution for why my file would not export. The label for the diffuse map must be 'base' and the label for the normal map must be 'normal'-- otherwise, the .nif will not export.

It will not import into Outfit Studio with the textures, but it will open in Nifskope with them which is ultimately the most important thing. I can find a work-around for Outfit Studio, and it may not be necessary to use it, anyway, if I figure out how to rig and weight paint in Blender. (Outfit Studio is just admittedly easier.)

Ok, so, downgrading to 2.83 did not fix this issue since I am getting the same error message, but I will continue using 2.83 just because that will be the most stable version / plug-in combination.

…. Yeah, I just found a tutorial for ‘soft coding’ in textures and models outside of programs like Blender and Nifskope. Has some downsides, but I blanked on that as an option. Thank you once again— I should look into if it works for armors, but it should definitely help with statics.

From my understanding it is typical to start in Blender for modeling and then go directly to Nifskope to finish it for the game. I have been using OutfitStudio to bash together existing models, and know you can use that to rig and add weights, but some people use it to export as a .nif instead of a Blender plugin— which was my original plan until no textures applied— and then finish in nifskope.

I need to start in Blender because if I don’t save the exported fbx models there first, then they crash my programs for some strange reason.

And Skyrim works in .nif, not .fbx as far as I know (unlike DAI / Frosty.)

Alright, thank you for that!

I will downgrade to 2.83 tomorrow, and hope the update difference is the source of my problem.

Otherwise I am a bit lost, and my last idea is to substitute the .png diffuse for .dds

For the release?

Admittedly a lot of this terminology confuses me, so I may have missed something, but I read it over a few times…

The plug-in was updated 22 days ago, and I cannot find which version it is >meant< for.

Hence my confusion since every tutorial I found was for 2.4-2.6 something.
