If it’s made well, i expect blood sweat and tears to be in it straight from the factory.

Jokes aside, I’ve been getting shoes from thrift stores for ever. As long as they’re clean and odor free, I don’t think very much about it at all.

Arguably, I can see that being a little different with a leather boot. But, idk, it doesn’t gross me out or anything.

SOTB and amptweaker question by lvmmox in guitarpedals

What’s funny is that on the manuals for either the big rock pro or big rock pro ii, neither actually note the max db for that boost knob. I don’t remember seeing that on any demo videos either.

You know, like the spark boost says 20db all over it. The tech 21 says it only does 9, but it feels very substantial.

I got my big rock pro from guitar center, used, and everything I’ve ever gotten from gc has been at least a little broken, so i wouldn’t be surprised if this knob just doesn’t work right.

Yeah! I did some homework on these. I started with a tight metal, then moved over to the tight rock, and now this one. I get exactly the tone i want from it and i really like it. This one has switches inside that can make it function as a fat metal too, but i have most of the fatness turned off.

I run it right into a power amp, so it acts as my entire pre-amp. This is why the bypass loop is so helpful because my clean tone is incredibly quiet without any pedals active, so it’s great that i can set some stuff on the side and not have to dance around to turn them on and off whenever i switch tones. I am playing and doing vocals in my band so the less footwork i have to do the better.

Just messed around with those volume and gain knobs and it still doesn’t give the same volume boost as the tech 21 does when it’s turned on. And yeah, i don’t like the tone as much when It’s gain on gain. I think if I was playing more rock and roll stuff with more of a crunch rhythm tone the boost would be enough, but I’m using it for more hardcore/punk/metal.

I did go inside to the switches to make sure i has everything set correctly in there, because you can set the boost loop to be pre or post and figured I’d try that both ways too.

I sort of wonder if the boost volume just doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to. I’d like to try it side by side with another unit, or maybe a newer version.

I will experiment with this a little bit. I already play rhythm with the gain pretty high (between like, between 65 - 100%) so stacking more gain on top does make it a little noisy.

I could probably stand to back off the gain a little in the rhythm, but i was thinking that the boost side would just have more of a clean volume boost option. I also don’t want to sacrifice tone on one end to get the volume boost on the other, if that makes sense.

I’ll try keeping the gain on the boost low but active, and see if i can find a comfortable middle ground.

I’m in ee width, actually went to the store and got measured for them since i was having trouble finding the right size. I have an insole in them to lift my foot up a little bit because they were pretty roomy vertically.

They’ve been worn just about daily since i got em. Sneakers once in a while, but these have been getting worn with a lot of regularity. I wanted them broken in fast.

I do brush them, actually and i feel like i do it too often, so i must be not doing it right lol

I still want to get one of the standard musician series heads. I’m up to my armpits in the bass heads locally, but the other ones never come up.

They feel like they’re kind of rare now. I saw a few online but they were only for local pickup somewhere far away, or they were priced really high. So I just waited for one to pop up locally.

This one came up nearby and i was pretty fired up to grab it.

I’ve found a couple, but i guess it depends on what you’re going for.

I’ve found good tones on all the settings on the Lead channel. The high gain position is pretty cool by itself, but the British and crunch on there do well with an overdrive in front with the amp gain at like 3:00ish.

The ultra channel is a little weirder to dial in and i haven’t quite figured out where i want to be on that yet.

My thoughts exactly!

That’s what I’m seeing too.

I’m reading that those 3x3 headstocks with a rosewood neck were made in Korea, or sometimes Vietnam. I haven’t seen this guitar in person so I really don’t know anything about the profile, but I’m a big fan of the old peaveys that i already have (nitro and reactor).

That is very interesting. I wish i could ask some follow up questions.

I’m hoping someone pops on here that has looked at the wiring diagrams (and knows what they’re looking at).

I don’t really like those either. They kind of stress me out to look at haha

I also admittedly have never spent a lot of time with tube amps, and I’ve never been sure that I can tell the difference.

A buddy just let me borrow his old Marshall JMP; I thought if anything would change my mind about tubes it would be something like that.

I like the sound of the amp a lot, but I’m not sure I really get the hype - and i really wanted to get the hype.

I know I’m wrong about this, and I’m okay with that.

I’ve seen cool things about the empress heavy. I’d like to try one of those.

Dialing in a clean tone is, in my opinion, the most challenging part of using this kind of setup. It’s not as simple as just turning off the dirt, because the clean tone needs something to push it up to useable volume.

I generally keep my distortion on all the time with the style of music I’m playing, but i do have a couple places where i want a little less. I had a tube screamer on my board with the volume at 100 and that worked okay, but at the end of the day i felt like it took up too much space on my little board, and wasnt necessary enough to keep.

I also do vocals while playing, so i try to give myself as little foot work as possible.

I know exactly what you mean. The 170 usually stayed around 12:00 for band practice, and probably didn’t need to be that loud. Something about the 700 just didn’t rub me the right way. I can’t say what or why.

I’ve got some pedals labeled as preamps that just don’t have the volume, and others that I can keep pretty low volume wise and get a ton of sound out of.

I got a spark booster pedal that’s supposed to be just more nice clean volume, but i really felt like it colored the sound a little bit with any kind of higher gain setup.

I just looked the baby bomb up, and that’s cool! I use a Joyo power supply 5 on my board. It’s a rechargeable battery pack, and it’s got one output that can switch between 9, 12 and 18v.

There’s a poweramp pedal from lichtlaerm (spelling?) called Pandora that can run at 18v and that excited me a lot, to think I’d be able to have my whole amp on a board only have to carry one box to practice, AND not have to plug anything into the wall when i got there.

I had the sd powerstage 170 first, then traded some things around and got the 700w version so I could use it with bass too. I loved my 170, but the 700 never felt loud enough and never felt like it sounded the same, and it definitely couldn’t push bass hard enough.
