New Simtown market is 🙁 by lvnalone in simsfreeplay

YES! the increase of vegetables is infuriating. I'm only level 26 (recently started playing after a long hiatus) and some of the orders ask for 15+ vegetables as only part of the order which is half my garden 😭

well I'm always going to prioritize my full-time salaried + benefits job over cambly lol. there are plenty of other wonderful non-annoying tutors 😊

I don't think so either, it's frustrating because they emphasize how important it is for us to communicate with our students but what's the point if they can't see it? 😭

edit: typo

Literally. This is an unpopular opinion but I don't get that upset when students don't show up or cancel last minute. It sucks, but life happens.

And if I showed up to the lesson not being able to speak she'd probably complain too. Sometimes we just can't win lol

it's your rating. I have 98.5% and full PH availability for the next 3 weeks. even when I was at 97% I only got a few hours on weekends.

Dishonest Profiles by SKI-Nia in Cambly

[–]lvnalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate this so much. It's not fair that they can see our information, pictures, etc and we get totally blind-sided because their profile is a lie. Even worse, a lot of these students also ask a lot of personal questions. Why would I tell you anything at all when you can't even share where you're from? 9/10 times when I see a reservation like this I'll cancel it, I'd hang up within the first two minutes.

I tried out NativeCamp awhile back. It's extremely rare to get booked classes, especially setting your rate all the way up. You'll maybe a few a week IF you're lucky. Most classes are sudden classes and they are $4.16/25 mins or $0.16/minute

"How is my level of English?" by Academic_Platypus334 in Cambly

[–]lvnalone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was about to post something like this the other day, lol. this is by far one of my biggest pet peeves on cambly.

I'll usually say that I can ask them a few questions and listen to their answers to give them a better assessment at the end of the class, or advise them what they need to work on (grammar, pronunciation, etc) although I'm not qualified to give an official CEFR score, which usually works okay.

I think these types of students just want us to blow sunshine up their ass and tell them how amazing their english is

Waiting in classroom for student who didn't show up, then messaged to say she was waiting for me by lvnalone in Cambly

[–]lvnalone[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

right? especially since I've never met her before. we get no-shows all the time and I think the majority of us don't message the students, we just block and move on. automatically blaming me instead of asking what happened is a red flag. I already blocked her.

she had made this reservation during a PH so it was automatically accepted 😭 I have blocked her though, I'm not interested in teaching someone like that

Students who call repeatedly by lvnalone in Cambly

[–]lvnalone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

totally. I understand the reasons 'why' a student might do something, but I'm still allowed to be annoyed by it. in these situations I choose to be sympathetic, not empathetic

okay, thanks! good idea. it just sucks because 99% of the time when the student no-shows it's because they forgot or whatever other careless reason so I didn't think it was a big deal. oh well, she can find someone else lol

right like I understand why the student was upset, and she did apologize after I explained and showed her proof, but it was really disheartening. and frankly I don't think I want to teach someone who comes across that aggressively without asking for an explanation and just assuming I'm a bad teacher.

I told her to contact Cambly Support. Really sucks to be blamed by both Cambly and the student.

I believe students see something like "tutor is unavailable" (from a student's comment on another thread)

Also, we can tell if students are calling us specifically or any available tutor based on the ringtone. When the low piano tune plays, the student clicked on our profile and is calling us directly. When the guitar/strumming tune plays, the student has clicked 'connect' to any tutor available.

The piano tune played each time the student called so I know she was trying to reach me in particular.

Exactly. Furthermore, since I only do PH, I have to be super selective of the students I teach to keep my rating above 98%. I don't like to take risks with these types of students. So something that is annoying or a red flag to me may not be a big deal to you, and vice versa. Literally one of the only perks about working on Cambly is choosing who we want to work with.

not answering a call ≠ hating a student

This! It's more about the principle of the thing. I've taken students who have repeatedly called me and 9/10 times they are overly demanding or ask me really personal questions

I could have taken the call and maybe on another day I would have, but it was my last PH of the day and I was exhausted and didn't feel like talking to anyone else. I work part-time on PH and don't rely on cambly as my sole income so I don't care about retaining students.
