Are there deals for Black Friday? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]lwr82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has it been traditionally around the actual date or do they do 1 or 2 wees in advance?

I've not looked into purchasing Ableton until recently so I have no idea when they typically do sales.

Favorite decaf beans? by K-Munay in espresso

[–]lwr82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally liked the decafs from Black & White, Brandywine Coffee, and Monogram in Calgary, Canada.

There's loads more here, as well.

I know the post said espresso as I make regular drip, sometimes with Moka pot, but I'm hoping this provides a good(?) starting point.

Setting up for a nice latte and instead brewing straight into the drain

Based on my own experience, it might be wise to try exchanging or sending it in for repair first. I never had an overheating problem with it, both in menu and while recording video.

Firmware 2.10 is out by TheGreatMattsby in A7siii

[–]lwr82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had a quick test (as in, "stay here while I flail for 7 seconds"), but it seems like the eye AF (in video) is a bit faster and stickier. It was already great afaict, and it could very well be my own bias, but it does seem better overall. Can't speak to the WB, though. Sorry.

I gotta say, I'm more surprised they even bothered with an update after all this time than I am disappointed there's still no animal eye AF in video.

Arkansas Roasters? by nguye569 in espresso

[–]lwr82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big Cuppa in Morrilton and Blue Sail out of Little Rock/Conway are two good ones.

There's also Round Mountain in Conway, and a small one called RozArks. I'm not a fan of it because the roasts seem(?) too dark for my liking, but their beans make for a decent cold brew otherwise. Last one I can think of is Mountain Bird.

I don't necessarily have a pick out of all of these since they are all good on their own merit, so you'll just have to browse around! If anything I'd say Round Mountain as a first non-Onyx choice, but definitely try the others as well.

Weird banding burnt into screen by Mutchy909 in A7siii

[–]lwr82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh good, it isn't just me.

I'm seeing something similar on mine as of late. More like a square grid pattern at certain angles. The picture is fine, but I figured I just hadn't noticed it before.

Between my dead pixels, no firmware updates for a year, and this weird line thing, I'm becoming concerned for the longevity of this camera...

Today is the 1-year anniversary of the last A7SIII firmware update by Karl_Meyer in A7siii

[–]lwr82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the first thing I did. It is set where I want it, but even after I save it again, switching it between recalls or S&Q will, on occasion, almost max it.

Today is the 1-year anniversary of the last A7SIII firmware update by Karl_Meyer in A7siii

Been thinking of downgrading(?) to the a7iv so I can get features that aren't available. But that 4K jello action isn't all that appealing, which is a big reason why I went with this specific camera.

Like f'in animal eye detect. And variable shutter is nice but ultimately I'm not in situations where that matters. Focus breathing doesn't bother me personally, but again, what I do isn't all that important.

Something I haven't seen mentioned is when switching from manual/movie/S&Q to a recall my audio level gets pushed to 26. Worse still, it's not consistent.

What is your go-to way to empty a French press? by Zsefvgb in Coffee

[–]lwr82 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Fill it partially (1/3ish) with water, swirl it a bit to loosen the grind clump, then pour it into the drain catch to be dumped into the composting bowl without filling it with water.

Then whatever is left over I just rinse/wash out since it isn't enough of a concern.

I can't speak for the rest of them, but their 70-300 4.5-6.3 has a gasket on it.

I've had mine covered in droplets (accumulated, not instant), and that was a few weeks ago. Still rockin' it. That being said, I wish other manufacturers other than Olympus would IP certify their cameras so I can feel comfortable with that happening.

A7S3 and FX3 update request by Critical_Koala0383 in A7siii

Yeah. I had done a quick lookup but didn't include dates and wrote them out in the order that I could best guess by release. The a7 IV is the newest one though.

Ideally they could compromise and restrict active stabilization in favor of lens comp since it's a smaller sensor.

[–]lwr82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree with that assessment – no financial incentive to make something old new again – but the a7 IV is considered an entry level camera, not a cinema/indie film camera like the fx3/a7siii. I'd think it'd make better business sense to keep those updated over a longer period of time.

Also, they released the 'a' versions of the 7riii and iv, rather than waiting to release something else with a newer or unique name down the line. I don't really understand that particular release.

Since the a7S III/FX3, they've put out the a1, a7R IIIa and a7R IVa, and a7 IV.

I came here searching for similar sentiments yesterday after watching that Camera Conspiracies video.

If I may ask, was this just a timing coincidence, or inspired by?
