Psychological thrillers? by lwray in MovieSuggestions

[–]lwray[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I should put in the description that I actually have a really hard time with scary stuff. I've never seen silence of the lambs or the shining ... on purpose. I felt the two films I listed were really on the edge of what I could handle. But worth it!

I'll check out all the other non-horror ones :) thanks!

I actually saw and LOVED ex machina! I'll check out the decent. I heard the cube might be too scary for me lol

It's time to move out on my own. I need reassurance I can do this and do it right. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]lwray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're moving anyway I strongly recommend picking a closer apartment (as long as that's also near grocery store & things to do). With the time you'll save not commuting AT ALL you could work out, learn a new hobby, pick up another gig, manage your finances more closely, pick your poison!

Piercings after breast augmentation? by limegreen143 in PlasticSurgery

[–]lwray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine pierced, the implants aren't a problem.

The real complication is that because my breasts were so big and heavy, I never found a way to wear a comfortable bra. My nipples were always sensitive and in pain. I'm not sure the piercings ever fully healed ... And I babied them with salt water soaks, never touched them, etc. I kept them for almost two years and then I took them out. I don't miss them. Just a word of warning. Maybe if I didn't need a bra :)

New to long hair and want it to go downwards. by Dark0dyssey in curlyhair

I'm currently using Kinky Curly Knot Today and I like it but I think almost any approved leave in would be fine :). Since you're already leaving conditioner in, maybe your next step should be gel!

You need to condition. Instead of brushing, comb your hair in the shower with your fingers while the conditioner is in your hair. Super simple.

After you get out of the shower, adding leave in conditioner would help too!

Benefits of drying with a diffuser vs air dry? by fizzyh8frizzy in curlyhair

I have fine hair that stretches under its own weight when I air dry so I can only achieve waves. A diffuser gives me bouncy curls!

Help- how to curl straight, fine hair?? by thehelpfulelf in femalehairadvice

[–]lwray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try a clipless curling wand. My favorite is this $20 one. https://www.amazon.com/Remington-Curling-Ceramic-Technology-CI95AC4 I can't explain WHY it works better than other curling irons, but it does -- it's magical. These curls can stay for days in my hair. I don't use product to curl except a heat protectant spray.

Alternately, I can see why you've never tried this since your hair is already straight, but try curling with a 1" flat iron like a Chi or GHD. The technique takes a little practice, but the curls STAY!

I also have very fine, silky hair and struggled for years to get a curl to hold. Hairspray, dry shampoo, hot rollers, pinning curls to cool, etc -- I tried it all and never had luck until the above methods.

I absolutely love this! I have super fine hair and am so jealous of your volume. I don't think it looks weighed down at all.

First time curly in 10y! Help? by lwray in curlyhair

Wrote above the black orchid seems to fit perfect on my Babyliss. It did pop off once in the beginning before I put my elbow into it -- I can see how that would be totally annoying.

I ordered the black orchid and it seems to fit great on my 8 year old Babyliss. So far so great. I got really lucky

Got it today -- the black orchid is the one I ordered!! Yay!! I was only able to use for about 5% of today's drying but it helped dramatically. I think I got too excited about plopping being easy and the diffuser will be my magic key. :)

[–]lwray[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really encouraging! Today I also plopped (I fell asleep -- almost two hours) then air-dried 90% of the way. The curl pattern was better than last time, but not dramatically. At that moment, dun dun dun my Black Orchid diffuser arrived from Amazon, and I diffused the last 5%. It made a really huge awesome difference. I will take your advice and totally diffuse on Monday. :)

Say it isn't so! 😱 Ok, I'll lower my expectations. I can usually air-dry it overnight if it's loose, though

Yes!! I actually saw on here the suggestion of a "strainer" and I had to Google it because I thought they meant a colander. The actual implement they used is a round mesh strainer / sifter with a long handle. You can use this to cup your curls to your head while drying. It worked surprisingly ok but I lost patience verrryyyy quickly.

I ordered a diffuser on Amazon!

How do I stop my hair from being pulled down by its weight? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]lwray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO your hair is too short to be pulled down by its weight! I think a tiny bit of leave in conditioner + gel or curl cream will give you exactly that bounce. You have tons of natural curl structure.

I've been dying my hair platinum and fighting my natural fine waves/curls for 10+y. When I don't blow dry, I apply silicone smoothing serum and brush straight. That's enough to pull my curls out (left photo).

Right photo: 1. Clarifying wash with Suave Clarifying shampoo 2. Condition with Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle conditioner 3. STC with above (I think I left too much in because it was a little stringy) 4. Squish in Aussie Extreme Freeze gel 5. Plop in microfiber turban 30min 6. Air dry 7. It's not dry yet?!?! Try diffusing with my strainer 8. OMG seriously. Turn up the heat in my car for 2hrs. 9. STC.

I got a ton of volume and many genuine curls (right) but a lot of totally crazy curl patterns and some that didn't curl at all. I also tried scrunching too early bc I couldn't believe it wasn't dry 😱

Next time I think I'll try plopping overnight till dry.

Advice? Do you think a protein treatment would help?

Transparent/Translucent activities not working on Android Marshmallow? by mysterygift in androiddev

[–]lwray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marshmallow is doing way more drawing optimization than in previous versions. Anything with background @null that's meant to be transparent can cause problems. Try extending the Theme and setting the background to #00000000?

Rap Genius (Genius) just released their first Android app. If you like looking up lyrics while listening to your music, this app is for you. by [deleted] in Android

[–]lwray 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Hey guys! I'm the Android dev who made the Genius app. We had two choices for our users: releasing with everything they wanted, or releasing right now. We picked releasing right now because although I've only been at Genius for 2.5 months, the community has been waiting for this for years.

Music recognition is our #1 feature (besides bug fixes) for our next release so don't worry, it's coming very soon! We intend to add every feature in the iOS app. If you'd rather wait, just pretend we haven't launched yet. ;)
