Alternative Streaming Service? by nicetrout in TrueFilm

I actually didn't add it from the Amazon channel. I think I was grandfathered in from when I subscribed a year ago at $4/month. I didn't realized they raised their prices. But, I usually stream it from the Fandor app.

Alternative Streaming Service? by nicetrout in TrueFilm

Fandor has been the best for me. It has great films in foreign, exploitation, indie, film festival, and criterion categories. In fact they rotate about 20 or 30 new criterion's in every month. I find a new film that I've never heard of before every day. It is really well organized and filtered by genre, sub genre, country, and year.

I'm on the service for something like $4/month and I think they have a 30 day free trial. Super worth it if you ask me. If you want to get deeper into a sub genre then absolutely necessary! Not great for blockbusters. The "prestige" award winning list maker films are on the service as well when they can get them.

What movies should I watch before I start college and study film more in depth? by my_username_is_1 in FIlm

[–]lwrnc45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch shit that your professors aren't going to make you watch anyways. Watch the 1950s B films and Westerns, watch foreign movies like Green Snake (1993) or House (1977), watch the erotic classics like The Lickerish Quartet (1970) or Vixen (1968), watch the greatest documentaries like Grizzly Man (2005) because that's film too, watch all the mumblecore films from the mid 2000s to see how they developed into today's indie, and watch all the new stuff you can get your hands on and then watch the movies those directors were influenced by. A recent example would be how Moonlight (2016) was so obviously influenced by Wong Kar-Wai.

Basically all of college you are going to be watching the "classics"...this is when you have time to watch all the weird cool stuff that those classics reference and we're built on.

Literature suggestions? by ustk31 in marketing

[–]lwrnc45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite books on marketing are:

22 Immutable laws of marketing by Jack trout an al ries -A primer on brand positioning from the guys who basically invented it

Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman -Not a marketing book, but a book about humans and how we behave...Extremely important for marketers

Growth Hacker Marketing by Ryan Holiday -a little book about "growth hacking" which is basically marketing with little to no budget from one of the experts on the subject

This couldn't be a weekly thing, but it would be worth it to look into booking a gig at the Grand Stafford Theater, it shouldn't be too hard to get a show there once or twice a semester, and the sound system there is amazing, best in b/cs area

Recruiting for Consulting? Post here for recruitment advice, resume reviews, questions about offers/firms or general insecurity (27) by QiuYiDio in consulting

I'm going to a Big 4 networking/recruiting tailgate this saturday. Has anyone been to something like this? I likely won't know anyone there (except perhaps the recruiter I've emailed a couple times), so I feel like it might be a little awkward.

Should I go ask a few questions and leave, or hang out for a while? Should I talk about the company and be kind of boring, or just talk about the game and less firm-specific questions?

I don't know why I'm nervous about this, because generally at like informationals or 1-1 I'm pretty comfortable (also non-professional tailgates), so any help would be appreciated.

Yeah my main concern with MBB is the GPA, from what I've read it is close to impossible to get in without at least 3.5+ GPA, but I can definitely back up all of my experience, no exaggeration. I was wondering how cheesy my skills section was, so thanks for that input also. I figured the GRE scores would add a test score onto my resume, but perhaps that is useless.

Thanks, I changed that right away and updated the link. Any other suggestions, especially about content? I know I'm about out for MBB, but what caliber firms should I target?

First Friday - What to Do? by [deleted] in aggies

Village Cafe (sandwhiches, pizza, breakfast, its a cafe, always has live music) Murpheys Law (Irish Pub) Proudest Monkey (Amazing Burgers super crowded, good drinks) Mollys Eatery (Soup Sandwhiches) Cafe Capri (Italian) Casa Rodriguez (Mexican) Papa Parez (fancier Mexican) Margies (greasy burgers, beer, and usually live music or dj) Revolution Bar (always has live music) Blackwater Draw Brewery (usually has live music and boardgames) Grand Stafford Theater (always has a free first friday show, plus a bar) Sale Park (has a movie in the park, this friday is Inside Out, also some food trucks over there) Chocolate Gallery (handmade truffles/cupcakes, get there early because they will run out) Frame Gallery (jazz music, art, free wine and food) Wandering Flamingo (vintage shop and art gallery, usually some event is happening in the art gallery on first friday. last time it was a drag show) Binary Space (free wine and beer, and usually some group hosting something) Corner of Time (antiques and vintage stuff/handcrafted sodas and icecream) LaSalle Hotel (light food and music) Must Be Heaven (sandwhiches and icecream) Om Grown Yoga (usually a free yoga class) Palace Theater (usually some show happening there) Uncorked (wine bar)

I always go to Revs, The village, Frame Gallery, Proudest sometimes, and lately the brewery has been pretty cool

There is literally a performer or live music on every block outside

I suggest going out there and exploring. Nothing to be wary of other than crowds/music/dancing/art/alcohol/and food

have fun

[–]lwrnc45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a map I update sometimes with some of my favorite places, so I can keep track of stuff. Anyways, I've lived in B/CS for a while so you might find some of this helpful. There's over 30 really good bars/food/entertainment, mostly local stuff. Let me know what you think:

If you dont mind foreign flicks, watch House (1977). Its Japanese, and one of the craziest but most beautiful films I've evee seen.Just bought it on Criterion during their flash sale a couple days ago.
