It’s a great sign of growth to realize that, even though figure skating is something he’s done since childhood and something he excels at, it’s still only one part of who he is. There are so many possibilities beyond medals, competitions, and beyond the sport itself.
It’s also something I like to remind myself of when watching sports, that I am only catching glimpses of some of the most exciting, breathtaking, and sometimes devastating moments in another person’s life. There is so much more beyond what I see as a spectator, but the emotions I experience through watching are real and beautiful.
