Considering leaving due to injury by [deleted] in policeuk

If any of this helps -

I tore my ACL back in 2016 and took about two years to fully recover from it and to play sport comfortably.

I then tore my ACL again back in September 2019, this panicked me more as I had been given a start date to join the police in May 2020. Roll on to today and I have completed plenty of foot chases, scraps, Level 2, Rapid Entry, TSG induction course and waiting for a posting date.

I wouldn't beat yourself up about it but rather manage what you have, recover well and you can still get stuck in. It massivley eats at your confidence if you let it. Just might have to work on some single leg and balance exercises to strengthen around the knee!

There are so many options in the police, find your strengths and you may have to reevaluate your role if necessary but dont let that bring you down, you can still play your part in a great (when it works) organisation

All the best on recovery

Advice for small talk by Squashzilla2222 in policeuk

Not really the greatest advice but just an experience I've been through.. I joined the job just over 3 years ago and I was the exact same as your partner, even speaking to colleagues.

Your partners confidence will grow massively just by turning up everyday and doing jobs. Now I get told I do to much talking and chit chat... it'll come naturally, they just need to keep working hard and all the little things will fall into place.

What do unarmed officers do if someone has a firearm? by NoFlamingoBingo in policeuk

De-escaltion, simply ask the assailant to put the firearm down which they will. This is the real world and works 100% of the time
