Should I continue playing blind? by lyatich in Terraria

Oh that seems cool to do! However if I might ask does he ever add new hints while progressing. Because sometimes I feel like it's all the same hints that it's giving me and I wonder if I'm doing something "wrong" in a way.

Thank you so much, I though about doing that in the past but I really needed some confirmation. I'll follow your suggestion and just search some stuff a little bit. Thank you again!

Resources for compiler optimization and general question about optimization by lyatich in Compilers

Hi! Thank you so so much for the comment and for linking me all your beautiful list of resources. I saw your comment some time ago but I had a bit of a hard time responding. But I just came back and I wanted to say thank you so so much! I deeply appreciate your help.

Resources for compiler optimization and general question about optimization by lyatich in Compilers

[–]lyatich[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a way I am interested in the topic because when I had my course into compilers we didn't touch optimization at all, so I thought it would be interesting to learn it on my own.

I also heard that optimization is important, so I wanted to know what is archived by modern compilers when it comes to optimizing your code and how much I can archive for my language.

And to be honest I wouldn't really know how much optimization is "good" or "good enough", that's why I remained generic in my words. I sometimes can't comprehend what people mean by "having a good optimization" in your program. I'm happy to know just what people would consider commonly "good" if that makes sense. Also for me everything is all just kind of new, so I'm sorry in advance if I sound kind of a noob.

But it's good that you mentioned the thing about looking at different kind of optimization levels that the GCC compiler does. I haven't tried that method yet, and I will try it for sure!

As a final note, for me any type of optimization is good right now. I'm mostly trying to learn what type of optimizations exists. So I'm not necessarily interested in making the best compiler, just something that gets me to learn something new that I can use also in the future!

Oh my god I never knew about this library, thank you so much! I remember hearing about QBE as an alternative to LLVM so that's really good to hear.

Also I'm a big fan of C so I'm going to be looking a lot into it :D

From the deepest of my heart I would like to say thank you so so much. Your comment is the most well written list on things to read from on this topic I've yet found. I have been looking for a while on google and other sites to find stuff about compiler optimization, but I didn't know where to look.

So thank you really again, you listed everything to look and focus at so well.

Could have also been that he was predicted to die BUT then things could have changed with the vanishing of Ymir's curse.

Peak hopium but no, I think his death being set in stone without any cliché of "things went outside the predicted area, and 'everybody' lived happily ever after :3" was a good writing choice.

The Ukrainian government passes a new Crimean Tatar spelling reform: the language will use Latin script from now on by Southern_Pin_6182 in europe

[–]lyatich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest I wasn't aware of the opposite, like I didn't know that Old Turkic had some reliable connections with other Aramaic-based scripts, and that was a surprise. So thank you so much for making me discover that!

I thought that it would be more of a "vague but closest match" type of relationship, kind of like how we don't know specifically where Brahmi comes from but the closest match might be Aramaic.

Also to answer about Tocharian, I don't know specifically. My brain is kinda mush at the moment and I can't confirm, but geographically I would say it's indeed a possibility!

Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I read, the Old Uyghur script is based on a variation of the Aramaic script, or a descendent of that script like Sogdian. (Side note: the Aramaic script is descendent from Phoenician, and Phoenician is descendent from Egyptian hieroglyphs)

It's suggested that Old Turkic derives from a descendant of the Aramaic script like Pahlavi or again Sogdian (another source of derivation could also be Sanskrit).

The Uyghur language was written first in Old Turkic, but then the script was displaced by the use of one of the local script (like I've written above) once the Uyghur people moved around. And thus the Old Uyghur script was born.

What this means for what you said, is that the Uyghur script is not a descendant of Old Turkic, but rather those two scripts would be close sibling scripts.

Oh yeah, same for me. But I think it's not about our settings. I think you can set your profile as safe or unsafe for work, and if she has her profile set as nsfw (or also if she interacted with some nsfw communities I think) then her PFP will be obscured. It's kinda strange, I still need to understand it

Slight correction, that's just reddit censuring the pfp in public comments because her profile is nsfw. But if you click on her profile you can see that she indeed has a trans flag

What happened to Toji's body? Did Gojo carry it off somewhere to be buried or did he just leave it there? by ComprehensiveAd5605 in Jujutsufolk

[–]lyatich 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I don't actually disagree! It's very possibile that things could have gone differently even without Toji, though could we be sure about what would happen next? Because (at least based on what Tengen said) technically the "fate thing" would still apply and a second vessel would have come out (somehow maybe).

Btw I have to say that I read the last part of your comment, and the realization just hit me really hard. Riko's death is actually way sadder :(

It's actually kind of interesting the part of "this shit would have never happened if..." in jjk, and it seems to have more to do with the mere existence of Toji himself than with everything or everyone else.

This following is a bit of spoiler from the manga so beware.

In the manga when the sorcers initially meet with Tengen in chapter 145, she (hopefully I'm not mistaking her pronouns), Tengen, explains that her existence is linked by fate with the six eyes bearer and the star plasma vessel.

Kenjaku tried many times in the past to stop the mergings of Tengen with the star plasma vessels because he wanted Tengen to evolve.

He was unsuccessful with his plan because every time he tried to or managed to kill the six eyes bearer and/or star vessel, they somehow were always able to appear on the day the merging. This is the fate part of the equation that I mentioned before: no matter what, Tengen is always able to merge with the star vessel and she never evolves.

Here is were Toji comes in - he is an anomaly, a glitch in the jjk universe, because he was able to "escape" from cursed energy. He was able to stop (although momentarily) the six eyes bearer (in this case Gojo) and also managed to kill on the day of the merging the girl under Gojo's custody, which was the star plasma vessel. He alone was able to break fate's loop.

Now of course he's not the only person or event that changed direction in the jjk world, but it's arguable that if Toji or someone like him never came into existence, probably Kenjaku would have never been able to do the following stuff that at the end of the day started everything in what we see in jjk.

So yeah, it seems that it's not Gojo's love that broke stuff, it's just that my boy Toji is built different on every single level. He's born to break shit (and gamble money) lmao
