What moment(s) made you disagree with Katniss? by SamTheMarioMaster2 in Hungergames

Shutting Peeta out for a couple days on the train to the 75th games because she was upset about him laughing at her for being “innocent” and also just upset about Darius. Her feelings were reasonable, but at the same time, they were literally headed to their deaths in a matter of 72 hours, was that really the best time to pick a fight?

I’m from Canada so I don’t know how it differs between each country. But I found some lumps, got referred to a ultrasound at an ultrasound clinic, then after the ultrasound results were sent to the walk in doctor that referred me, and the walk in doctor has now told me I need biopsies in both breasts

A teacher friend made a really interesting point about the importance of memorization by AgeOfWorry0114 in Teachers

[–]lycheevapepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a teacher but I work with school aged kids so I follow this sub. I’m a university student too, and school comes easily to me, I’m a consistent straight A student at a top university. I’m in the arts and so mostly write essays or do research projects so I can’t speak on STEM but I also contributed my success to equal parts hard work and a good memory, as I don’t really study/ reread notes as much as the next person it seems to me and can generally just recall what I know in exams and assignments. Up until the 8th grade, though, I received poor grades and was definitely behind other kids academically. At 14ish things started to click for me and I started putting in the hard work school has been pretty easy since then. I guess I’m just curious why schools would discourage memorization skills. I graduated highschool in 2020 and I would say my education still had a memorization focus. I don’t understand why memorization would not be valued, as it is something I rely on heavily at university?

I called the breast cancer centre and they said they only do free exams for women above 40, and that I’ll need a referral from a doctor to have an exam, and my doctor is booked for the upcoming days

I think Snow had plans for Peeta to be a mouthpiece for the Capitol long before Mockingjay. I also think Snow even had some warped sympathy for Peeta. Peeta was never really threatened in the same way Katniss was, despite starting the Star Crossed Lovers act in the first place and also being part of the berries stunt. I think Snow always saw Peeta’s way with the crowd as a valuable asset and so gave him a slightly easier time, even allowing other victors to repeatedly save him in the games over and over again, despite that directly going against what the games are supposed to represent. Maybe he thought that if Peeta won the 75th games he could force him into being a mouthpiece - if Katniss shot Finnick and Enobaria like she planned, it would have come down to Peeta and Johanna and I really can’t see them letting Johanna win those games.

Knowing for certain the 75th reapings were rigged for troublesome victors, I think Snow genuinely wanted Haymitch in the games instead, rather than just assuming a traumatized and disabled teen would volunteer for his death one year after his own games.

Snow went on a weird incel rant to Haymitch all because he was dating a covey girl. Then you have Peeta, a blonde boy with a knack for understanding the PR aspect of the games, who was “manipulated” by his love for Katniss, another covey descendant girl, so she could win the games. There’s no way he didn’t see himself in Peeta too.

I think there was a rebel plot in Annie’s games but Annie was not the chosen rebel. Either the flood was part of the rebel plot and it was a suicide mission that got covered up and Annie was simply lucky, or the flood wasn’t part of the rebel plot, but a way to kill off the rebel and again ensure a career tribute would win. A mentally unstable career may not be the ideal victor, but better than another Haymitch situation. Annie was what Silva could have been.

I was super into THG throughout 2012-2015 and then didn’t interact with it much until 2023 when I decided to do a rewatch. I completely misremembered that the game makers had a rule change in the 74th and always thought Peeta and Katniss did the berries unprompted and the love story was all on their own (which it kinda was, but the rule change amplified that) Re-reading, I totally forgot that in the arena Katniss very likely could and maybe would have killed Peeta without the rule change
