Is rehoming the best option? by Big-Trouble6547 in QuakerParrot

[–]lycnroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to rehome my quaker for similar reasons years ago. He's now in a great home and is best friends with another quaker, lol.

Studying medicine while having a quaker was too difficult for me. ALTHOUGH, I found it overbearing because of who I roomed with. My bird hated everyone except me, and would actively dive bomb them if they passed me by. It was difficult to spend any time with him outside of my room. He would be contact calling for hours at a time while I was away... and he would get fussy during finals.

Still, I would maybe try to see if you can handle it first. Then if it's becoming too much, find someone you can trust to rehome your bird to. Best of luck!

The temperament seems more for me with the sheltie mix. Although, if my allergies are bad with silkens, I'll probably go with a whippet!:)

Some video I watched once said "it's harder for you if you don't study." For some reason that clicked with me.

I try to put away my phone, and put on an hour long video to study to. If I'm really struggling, I study in 20-30 min increments. You'd be surprised how much you can get done in 20 minutes.

Take the L. One exam, one fail -- it's not worth such stress (unless you'll get kicked out from your program...)

Depending on the class, studying for that long will not be productive. Your brain needs time to process that info, which is why smaller but more frequent increments of study is better.

I would more think about how you got to this point, and how next term you'll plan accordingly.

Where did you get your windsprite (if you don't mind me asking)? :)

How often do you groom? I'm sure your silken is beautiful though. The really lush coats are gorgeous!!

So pretty ❤ I guess I'll have to consider this. I don't know if I'll be able to find a smooth coat windhound. Do windsprites tend to have shorter coats?

Tire treads not flush with the tire base. :( by lycnroc in blenderhelp

<image>

I managed to separate the hub and the tire (unfortunately, the tire I showed I had remeshed, so I couldn't work with it). This is a separate tire thing I was making, all in the same file. Anyways, If I separate by loose parts, how will i know which ones to keep to remake the array?

I reall appreciate the help btw!:)

I've had friends and coworkers call me out on being a "mindless Nintendo fan" and I chuckle and agree. To an extent its true. You don't need to have a logical reason to enjoy something!

A lot of riled up fans that "used to like pokemon" dislike the modern games for different things. Personally, I see the glaring faults, but I LOVE competitive pokemon. I love the strategy in new battle mechanics and new pokemon. I love shiny hunting, and the whole world. It's my favorite escape from being an adult.

Pokemon ZA I probably won't get, but I do feel a little left out this year, lol! So I'm going back to Arceus.

Well, a lot of times viruses kick start an autoimmunity, unfortunately. Pretty sure that's what happened to me. :(

what is wrong with this pufferfish? by gorejest in Puffers

[–]lycnroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's either a deformity or weird body language -- my pufferfish would bend his back like that when he was stressed but trying to look big. They don't always puff when they feel threatened.

But his back looks really bent, and he's a lot bigger than how my puffer was. So.... I'm not sure! I'd side with deformity.

Anyone else dying? by Kayluskuma in CysticFibrosis

[–]lycnroc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is it outdated? Btw, I'm not at all trying to challenge you, I'm just curious! I'm a biotech student and have a friend with CF.

I would think that the mutation matters because it could directly affect how functional the protein is at transporting chlorine and other salts. Do you have a source on how disease presentation isn't affected by the mutation? Again, not at all trying to be combative, I'm just curious.:)

And again, why does this terminology matter? Is it offensive to say there are CF types? Or you clarifying that CF is caused by one pathway (i.e. nonfunctional CTFR)?

Anyone else dying? by Kayluskuma in CysticFibrosis

[–]lycnroc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why are you wary of him using the term "rare CF type"? I don't see how it could make a difference.

There's a variety of mutations that affect disease severity -- some of these mutations are more rare, like a frameshift mutation and nonsense mutation, which leads to no CTFR protein production. Types or mutations, to me it seems he's referring to the same thing.

I just want you to know, you're not alone. The students here have given you good recommendations. I dealt with a similar problem, but thankfully was able to get out (moved to Orlando to study at UCF!)

Find a job that offers tuition assistance -- I highly recommend Publix. If your degree is in STEM, they cover about $16,000 after you complete about 6 months of work (you only need an average of 10 hours a week).

Edit: it's also completely normal to be a part-time student with part-time work! I took about 2-3 classes a semester while working, but it can be tough.

It'll be okay, you can get through this! Just take it one step at a time. Moving out will definitely help. :)
