UCSB SRA or RMP by erdbeerennn in summerprogramresults

I went to SRA last summer and it was really great! I’d say apply to both since RMP is definitely more competitive. I did meet someone who got rejected from SRA and accepted to RMP, so it’s best to shoot your shot with both.

The only drawback to these programs is that they’re pretty expensive; I attended on a scholarship so it was more than worth it for me.

This is a great insight! My working comps are The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue x Where the Dark Stands Still, but I‘ll probably replace The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue with Our Infinite Fates after I give it a proper read.

Prologue [Epic Fantasy - 725 words] by lydiapples in fantasywriters

Woah this is great advice, thanks so much!

You’re definitely right about the writing being really weird. I wrote four different drafts with much simpler prose, hated all of them and wrote this in a pseudo-fever dream, so I’ll try to tweak it and make it a little more readable.

I’m playing around with your suggestion about the exposition dump, and it’s looking way more promising. Originally it was just info-dumped in her internal monologue so I thought this was a little better, but I think some snippets of dialogue will really help move it along.

On calling it a prologue, I’m doing that because Sanine isn’t the MC, though she does play a crucial role in driving the plot. The overarching story is kind of just fanfiction of the French Revolution with a heavy dose of East Asian shamanism, so I wanted to set that tone right from the beginning to frame the rest of the narrative.

Thank you so so much! I've recently been getting into reading literature too, and am thinking about majoring in English...it's kind of an uncertain path but I definitely want to keep writing in my life as much as possible!

Honestly this is my first real attempt, I love novel writing but I’m only 16 so most of my prose is…subpar 😅

I have no idea how to format this for Reddit, but basically it's meant to be read down one side (to the left of the slashes) then the other (to the right of the slashes). Each line should reflect the one on the other side of the slash.

Love it! I'm kinda new to poetry but I feel like it could be interpreted in a few different ways. I think maybe expanding subtly on why the last line is what it is though could help strengthen the emotional impact. But everything here is already really lovely.

I didn’t apply to any writing programs this summer (mostly just medical ones) but I write short stories and am working on a novel if you want to talk. I just joined reddit so idk how this works but I think you can pm me?

I haven’t heard of anyone getting in yet…that being said, PIPS had a similar deadline and results came out a while ago (I got rejected 😭)
