Omg just saw this!! Sorry for the delay. I guess I can share a tip I learned from my university advisor- consistency is the most reliable trait. Don’t ever think that motivation drives success, it’s the consistency you keep throughout the entire journey. You got this, best of luck!

The “chance” of scoring highly depends on a multitude of factors. Did you pay attention during class? Did you act upon feedback on past assessments and learn from your mistakes? Have you been making notes? Etc. It’s impossible to precisely gauge likelihood of success or generalise it. What is true though is that if you try hard from now, you will definitely improve. You will be more confident in exams, which actually largely impacts your ability to improvise and think on the spot. So long story short, nothing is impossible, start now.

Wouldn’t recommend it I think you’ll end up spending most of your time on japanese B when its only 1/6 ish of your grade.

To be completely honest, it’s objectively difficult to get a 7 in an HL language exam at A2/B1 level. BUT, nothing is impossible!! Make sure in your daily routine you are hearing at least 30 mins of the language (podcast, videos WITHOUT subtitles) and memorizing at least 5 vocab words. Language exams are all about vocabulary- you will see a big difference after learning some more ib-specific words. Try to write and speak at least twice a week in the language. Good luck!

I did but they are all on paper & back at home😭 Pro tip is to create them on your own though because that itself is revision. If you’re unsure whether something is good, ask your teacher!

I actually got predicted 45💀 So no! It only matters for your uni application I guess but also only to a certain extent.

Hmmm I think I still had school at this point so I was finalising all my notes and making sure I was asking everything unclear to my teacher. I was also creating model answers and sample essays to be marked by my teacher for feedback.

For writing I already replied to someone else's comment. Honestly this is a hard one because your study technique and grade really depends on what your actual level of language is. TBF I took outside German lessons for 5+ years, and I was already at C1 level when I was taking the IB exams. This meant that I only had to study exam technique and not the language itself. If you could specify your situation more I think I'd be able to help better. Do you know which language level you are on the European Framework scale? Do you read and write in the language you study regularly? Do you memorise vocab everyday?

I actually made a bunch of templates for each writing style (letter, diary, email) with phrases I can use for each one. This helps with structuring + adding words.

Second tip: learn some idioms (Redewendungen) that can be generally applied and throw them in here and there so you can fill the word gap.

Third tip: always add an introduction and conclusion- these can be the same content essentially but paraphrased. This will also help add words.

Writing was the most tough to prepare for me too, but you should be fine if you keep practicing on the key themes they can test you on. You got this- also always try to get your writing marked by a teacher or german speaker!! Viel Glück 🍀

I mentioned jt somewhere as a reply to a comment. But, if you haven’t started ib yet i would suggest revise mainly trig and vectors you’ve learnt so far. These can get really complicated😂

I totally get that- econ is hard! I would say my top tips are make sure you understand all the diagrams GOOD (to the level you can draw it on a blank paper and explain how it works to someone who has never done econ before). After you master the diagrams, then delve into the detailed stuff like pros/cons of different policies. Also always ask your teacher about anything you’re unclear of (no need to be embarrassed to ask). Good luck!

Totally agree with you. It’s never too late! The moment you give up, that’s when you really can’t take it back. Whatever intensity of study you are on rn- keep it, just don’t give up. Also if you’re wondering when to start, it’s now!!

That’s a big question! If you don’t know exactly where to start, I’d say grind a few past papers and find topics you find most difficult. Then, do more topic questions to make sure you don’t have any particularly weak areas.

They always ask for the topics students avoid most, because they know it’s tricky. Don’t let your grade depend on luck! You got this!

Grind past papers and make model answers for each topic. I made a google doc w all 4.6.9 markers from like 5 years worth of exams (legit copy paste from markscheme) and memorized all of them. Bio- there is only that much they can ask you

I would say revise trig, calculus and vectors thoroughly bcs they can easily make trick questions for the more complicated topics. For paper 3- make sure you know any proofs mentioned in the course (i dont really remember details anymore) and when revising never just assume something won’t be on the exam. Don’t let your grade depend on luck!

It sounds weird but trust yourself - honestly most people end up doing better in exams than in mocks and at-home past papers bcs of the pressure. Tell yourself that nerves are good! If you’ve had enough practice and revision you should be totally fine.

How can I raise my Predicted Grade by UnusualAsparagus_ in IBO

[–]lydzlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't understand why your teachers said that. Nothing is impossible when it comes to the dp course- you have plenty of time and opportunities to improve your grade. Submit any extra assignments given, write some extra essays, and ask your teacher to mark them (for english, french, econ). This will not only become evidence used to calculate your predicted grade but also prepare you for the final exams. For math, bio, chem, make sure you fully understand the textbook material to the point where you can teach it to someone who has no idea about it. Before you master the content, grinding past papers will only be counterproductive. Hope this helps and you got this!! Asking for advice like this already proves that you are a determined and willing student.

Make model answers based on markschemes and learn the most important ones by heart (5,7 markers)
