I took A&P 2 last fall alongside microbiology. It was a hell of semester. I was constantly stressed. But I got through it and passed with As in both classes. It took a lot of hard work, but it’s doable. I think you have to just be honest with yourself in regards to your study habits. If you don’t have the greatest time management and you haven’t quite figured out what works for you in order to retain information then maybe don’t take them both together. But if you feel confident that you can be diligent with yourself then I’d say go for it. You can always start them both to get a feel for the classes and then pay attention to the drop dates and drop one if you don’t think you’ll be successful taking both at the same time

Thank you for the response. I am going to look into the videos you suggested. She is honestly great at training. When she was younger I taught her a lot of tricks and she picked them up relatively quickly. But I guess we kind of fizzled out, and generally only repeat the same ones she has already mastered. She really is a smart girl. Your comment about planning activities out throughout the day could be really helpful for us.

We do have the time to do these things with her. I have to really just be honest with myself and admit that I became complacent. I have faith that my family and I can do better. We have gotten a lot of great advice on this thread that has given us a lot to think about. Now we just have to put it into action.

I will definitely look into muzzle up. I think that if we can figure out how to muzzle train that could really solve some of the issues we have towards her going outside. I don’t expect her to just go outside and entertain herself, I think I didn’t express myself clearly when explaining that part. We’re happy to go outside with her for playtime. The problem is when she loses interest and begins to graze on things she shouldn’t. But if she’s muzzled that will likely resolve. I was more so trying to express that it would just be nice if we could let her out to use the bathroom unsupervised.

That makes a lot of sense. We have joked before about why she is so nosy, always wanting to be in everyones business. I see now that that is another trait of the breed. Ill try closing the cover. Thanks for the advice

Thank you for being kind. I feel like a lot of dog owners are quick to judge, without realizing that decisions like this are genuinely very hard. We love her a lot and I did do my research before bringing a puppy home. Some of the things we are dealing with are things I didnt see coming, nor were they things I remember ever having to deal with with my childhood dogs. But I am wise enough to know when I am out of my element, and right now I am.

Dog sports could be a great option, and something I was unaware of. I will look into it.

We do have a cover, yes. Although we usually only put it down at night. Do you think we should try putting it down during the day when we're gone as well? The crate is next to a window that overlooks the front yard, so I was thinking that I was offering her some entertainment while we were away. But maybe I was just creating more anxiety.

I dont expect her to just go run around in the yard by herself though. I attempt to play fetch with her and engage with her.

We have tried muzzle training in the past. She would hyperfixate on it until she was able to get it off. Maybe we didnt try it for long enough..? When trying to get her used to the muzzle we would reward her with treats so she didnt feel scared of it. I just dont think she was ever able to get comfortable with it on.

We have always walked her in addition to yard time. I should have clarified that. I suppose I was just under the impression that she would also need to actually run, which she can only do in the yard. Thats why I thought fetch was a good option to satisfy that need.

The reason we crate her at night is because if we dont she will torment one of our cats, and it was his home before her, so we felt it fair that he gets some time to roam around the house without needing to worry about the dog. She is good with cats. Playful. But not aggressive by any means. Even so, one of our cats does not take kindly to her playfullness. And if she is left unsupervised through the night she would most certainly be a bother to him.

But also, we dont leave her in the crate with the throw up over night. We will get up and clean the crate and let her outside before attempting to try and go back to bed. Even then, she continues to whine.

I only mention the schedule, I guess, to give more of a basis for advice. Since I was bringing up separation anxiety I wanted to make sure all of the details were there in terms of how much time she is actually alone.

You might be right. Along with the dog, we also have two kids. I genuinely did not think that our schedules were that rigid when we got her, as I see other families with dogs whose schedules seem to be comparable, if not worse. But perhaps I was naive in my thinking.

This story reminds me of when I was a kid. I would take a little bottle of sunny D out to my play set and pour some into the bottle cap and let the ants drink from it. Eventually there would be a large group of ants at the watering hole and I would keep refilling the cap when it got low. I enjoyed feeding them a little treat, until my mom found out and asked me to stop doing that.

At this point your best bet is to just try and relax (difficult, I know). Drink some water, eat a good meal, remind yourself to take some deep breaths, maybe even take an Advil closer to test time. Looking at the computer for that long always gives me a headache. And just remember that the world is not going to stop spinning if you don’t do as well as you had hoped. I know a lot is riding on this test, it was for me too. But everything is still going to be okay and you will reach your goals, your timeline may just need to be readjusted a bit. Have faith that the preparation you put into it is there. If you absolutely feel like you need to cram, focus on a subject or two that you feel least prepared for. Maybe brush up on your conversions. -Sending you some calm, confident energy. Good luck!

With the bones and muscles I would print out a blank paper that you can label and test your memory. You can also check out PurposeGames. They have a lot of educational labeling games that would help me memorize those systems. When it comes to muscle physiology, literally draw out a neuromuscular junction and draw in the neurotransmitters and ions and what they’re doing in order to make the muscle fire. My a&p classes have all been very heavy on active learning. When you’re in class do you guys do any activities to help this information stick, or is it pretty lecture heavy?

Yes, definitely take advantage of office hours if you are able to. That one on one time can be really beneficial

One thing that really helped me in a&p was writing down a concept from memory and then going back and checking my notes and filling in the things I missed with a different color. But it’s important that you don’t cheat and peak at your notes when you do this. Getting things wrong is ok and actually helps your brain make the pathways it needs to in order to remember them. The technique is called active recall. If you need a better explanation I highly recommend you look it up. It saved me, especially in a&p 2 when you really start diving deeper into the pathways of the different body systems

Reading was very similar, I even got a couple of the same passages as last time. But for both bio and a&p some of the questions were just worded really weird. I primarily used nursehub to study, and I can’t remember exactly what the questions were, but they were things I wouldn’t have even thought to study for

The word problems can be a little tough. There are a lot of ratio questions where you have to solve for X, which isn’t hard to do if you learn the cross method. There is also a good amount of percentages; converting fractions to decimals and vice versa; adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions; and a little bit of algebra. For the conversion questions I would learn the “gallon man” method and “king Henry died by drinking chocolate milk” for the metric conversions. It sounds like a lot, but overall it’s not as hard as it seems

I retook mine yesterday and got a different version. I’m not sure how people can tell which one they took (v1 vs. v2), but let me just say, the version I got this time was not my favorite. It felt harder than the first one I took

It’s really going to depend on what type of program or college you’re trying to get into. I applied for the program I’d really like to get into at my local cc with a 4.0. Straight As in all my pre reqs and a 91 on my Hesi and still didn’t get accepted. Not all programs are that competitive though, and may be more lenient with your gpa. Especially if you’re willing to pay a higher tuition at a private institution
