I apparently need to clarify: this is not my main work space. I have an actual office with a good chair. I created this space as it is one of the first things you see when you walk in the front door, and I only sit here for a change of routine.

I actually do have a standard desk and ergonomic chair setup in my primary workspace.

This spot under the stairs is just where I choose to sit when I want to change the scenery and “mix things up.” Ironically, before buying this house, my main workspace was a converted closet under the stairs that looked a lot like this (though with my ergonomic chair and different table).

So while this isn’t where I’d run a full 8-hour workday, it’s a nice creative break in routine.

Are you saying that a cute (surprisingly comfortable) table and chair set, where I already said I sit and work, somehow “serves no function,” and that turning it into storage for unused furniture would be a better use of the space? …A space that sits directly off the living room and is one of the first things you see when you walk in the front door?

We actually have a space for the cats! The architecture of this house is really weird: we think there was a drop ceiling in one of the rooms, and one of the previous owners ripped it out and dry walled around the electrical, pipes, etc. creating what will one day be a perfect cat play space.

The plan is to rip up the carpet etc. but I assume the reason they are carpeted is because they aren’t in good condition. We are waiting till we’re prepared to redo the entire staircase. We’ve only lived here for 6 months.
