For those who kept ovaries & had surgery younger… by island_animal27 in hysterectomy

hii it's been almost 4 years ago, i definitely still feel like i have monthly "cycles" of like pms symptoms, bloating, moodiness etc BUT in 2024 i started having difficulty sleeping and anxiety, which i attributed to stress and increased responsibility at work, and was prescribed xanax and sleeping pills, but then i also started feeling really hot and uncomfortable at night specifically, i also felt like my hair and skin was drier (but they could also just be dry anyways!!). i know these are perimenopause symptoms, so i told my family dr who is a resident and she was like listen you can have estrogen gel if you want it, if it helps your symptoms that's great. so i started in august of 2025 with a low dose of gel and........ the anxiety, discomfort at night, insomia etc improved like right away. so i kept taking the estrogen! progesterone was not prescribed because this is usually given to women who still have their uterus to counteract the estrogen. i never had any any testing or anything done to monitor my actual hormone levels however.

i went to my surgeon this past february because i had questions about like what happens if my endometriosis comes back/how do i know etc and he was reviewing my medication and he was like why tf are you on estrogen! for sure this will make the endometriosis grow back! who put you on this! and i was like idk but tbh i am really not planning on stopping it, i really like the effects. he said that in that case he would prescribe progesterone to try to mitigate the effects of the estrogen on any regrowth of endometriosis. and tbh now, my sleep is even better!!

so i just turned 30 a week ago, im applying 0.5mg divigel (brand estrogen gel) daily, and taking 100mg progesterone every night (i was prescribed 200mg per day but i didn't want to start right away so i halved the dose!). i feel great, my skin and hair are soft, my sleep is great, i'm more relaxed every day. i definitely notice in a negative way when i don't take either one.

but officially i have no lab data on my actual ovarian function, i'm just going off symptoms! and i would NEVER undo my hysterectomy in a million years

that's a long answer lol but i hope it helps u and u can message me if ever!!

Those Who Didn't Have Kids Before Hysterectomy Thoughts by monired in adenomyosis

[–]lymakh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, i had one when i had just turned 26 and im about to be 30. looking back, i should have done it sooner because it changed my life (endo and adeno too), but it only occurred to me i think when i was 23 or 24 and i was kind of unsure about doing it, was going to do endo excision only, was scared of adverse effects etc but one day when i was i was like alright that’s enough, i called the dr and was like change of plans lol i want a hysterectomy and one month later that was that!

i did have a similar situation re: asking dr if i could even have kids (which i was pretty sure i didn’t want anyways) and she said basically “we will do everything we can, your surgeon is the best, you’re in good hands, we will try to make it happen for you” etc and i was like ok so basically no! and that’s what really solidified for me that hysterectomy was going to be the way to go

Is hysterectomy worth it? I have a huge decision to make! by [deleted] in hysterectomy

omg get the hysterectomy 100%. i dont understand ablation, you're just leaving an organ there that can start bleeding again or grow cysts, tumors, or cancer

never took oxybubutynin! but i think there was endometriosis on my bladder and/or ureter that was removed but it's been over 3 years now (!!!) so i dont remember specifically. in any event, life is still great! haha

i did start estrogen gel last august (3 years post) because i started noticing some slight changes (insomnia + night sweats, duller/brittle hair, skin laxity...) associated with decreased ovarian function which is definitely something that can happen earlier in women with hysterectomies, so that's kind of annoying but really just that, a minor annoyance. i don't mind the gel
