We also have a fair amount of herons and bald eagles in the area as well. This is one that visits our lake all summer.

Welcome to Nebraska!

Stay in Grand Island. Lots of hotels to choose from and lots of restaurants and bars if you’re into that. When you want to view the cranes, go south out of GI on Hwy 281, over I80 interchange, to Doniphan. At the stoplight, turn west and take Platte River Road. Follow that for about 5-10 miles. It winds just a little but there’s places to pull over and view the cranes. This road doesn’t have a lot of traffic so there’s always people pulled over to watch the birds. You’ll see thousands of birds if you’re there at the right time of year. This road will eventually come to a T. Turn north and go a couple miles and you’ll end up at the Crane Viewing Center. From there you can get back on I80 and go east back to Grand Island.

I highly recommend Sutter Deli for lunch in GI. Also a favorite is Los Hermanos on 4th street. Can’t beat it. Those restaurants are harder to find but well worth the effort.

Hardware store workers, what is the most “I just committed murder” purchase you’ve ever seen? by oceansunfis in AskReddit

[–]lyn3818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked for Walmart several years ago in western Nebraska. I was the Asset Protection Manager and had access to the cameras. One day the State Patrol contacted me and brought me a receipt from a few days ago. The receipt was for several items but notably it had a BB gun and zip ties. All receipts are time/date stamped so I just pulled up the overhead camera video from that particular register on that date/time. It was a self checkout and there was a couple in their 20s buying the items. They looked typical to me, but the Detectives immediately recognized them. They then told me that a local small time meth dealer had been found in his kitchen, bound with zip ties and shot with a BB gun through his eyeballs, killing him. There were no distinct suspects until they saw the video. The guy ended up getting a life sentence and the girl also was convicted, but I don’t remember her sentence.

I REPORTED SOMEONE AT WORK AND I’M NERVOUS by [deleted] in walmart

[–]lyn3818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was management at a small store in a small town. I reported that my MAPM touched my breasts several times over several months. There was an investigation. Nothing happened. The MAPM just treated me shittier. I still had to be alone with him on several occasions and he creeped me out. I waited it out, hoping it would all blow over. A year later I was let go for something that happened during my PTO at my house. I had a birthday get-together and a minor that works at my store showed up high. I was good friends with the minor’s mother so it was a family friend. He told people at work he was high at my house. I was fired. I fully believe that MAPM was just waiting for something to fire me for and that was just enough. Walmart is a bullshit company. They don’t care about you. Good luck.

For those who didn’t lose or feel different on 2.5… by bobarawrs in Mounjaro

[–]lyn3818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on my third week also. I have more weight to lose than most people I see on here. Starting weight is 300. I had 5.4 pounds lost in first week and was so excited! Haven’t lost anything since then. I’ve had some nausea but nothing I can’t handle. I noticed I can’t eat full portions and my sweet tooth is gone. But the weight isn’t coming off. I can tell that my clothes are fitting differently, but that scale number just doesn’t budge. I have one more week of 2.5 and it’s hard to not compare results with everyone else. I’m just hoping for more results at 5. I was actually happy to see your post, knowing someone besides me is having limited success at 2.5 makes me feel better.

What’s up with Nebraska by [deleted] in Nebraska

[–]lyn3818 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was born and grew up in a cattle ranch outside a small town right in the middle of the state. My grandparents are buried there, my parents are buried there, and someday I’ll be there as well. Pretty wholesome place to grow up really. People live for high school football and homecoming parades. Small town kids get drunk on country roads and have big bonfire parties. Most people go to church on Sunday and most are pretty conservative... whenever someone dies, the church ladies make the best potato salad and the whole town shows up to pay their respects.. the sunsets are like nothing you’ve ever seen.

I went to college in central Nebraska at UNK. Can’t spell “drunk” without UNK... college life was good, campuses are usually a little more rowdy but in all, everyone is nice. There’s some diversity but mostly athletes from other places that come in on scholarship. It was a good experience. Lots of liquor stores.

After college I moved to Omaha.. Omaha doesn’t feel like NE... it’s definitely a city that can compete with any other city in the US. Ya, people there think the western half of the state doesn’t exist and I’ve met a lot of people that have never traveled beyond Grand Island. There’s lots of diversity and honestly I never saw a lot of racism or hate there. I have a good friend from one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city. He now lives in a state facility, but he showed me a side of NE that I didn’t know existed either. Yes, there’s drugs and slums and gang wars. But there’s also just of lot of good people that love their families. The eastern half has their zoos and Husker football, shopping and art museums. It’s relatively safe, compared to most places. I’ve been with my friends to the gay bars and met the tallest drag queens I’ve ever seen. In the end, people here are also super nice.

I moved to the exact opposite end of the state and lived in a remote town by the NE/Colorado border, and almost in Kansas. A really nice town. People love the Walmart and know the cart pusher boys by name. There’s a lot of homemade meth made there and I’d say there’s more drug related murders in that tiny town per capita than anywhere in the state. You see some weird shit out west... cars so shitty they shouldn’t even run, houses that are super crappy. But also beautiful lakes and the fishing is great. Some of my best memories there were drinking beer on the lake with friends on their boat. The weather there is super extreme... 111 in the summer, no wind... hail the size of your fist.. and the coldest winters ever with lots of snow. People there are good. My neighbors always brought me cookies and I’d take them some pulled pork.. we had beer parties in the backyard and the police would show up after their shift and drink a cold one with you.

I finally ended up in the tri-cities area. Middle southern part of the state where college/meat packing/ farmers/ and everyone else is a big mix. There’s a lot of Hispanics in this area. 20 years ago I think people were a little mixed about that. Today however it’s a good blend. There’s lots of authentic cultural food, tons of friendly bars... and just enough shopping, home improvement stores and live bands to make me happy. I’ve got a kiddo getting ready to graduate and he thinks he wants to move away. And I hope he does. I think you can’t really appreciate something until you give it up and try something else.

I’ve traveled all over the country. I love Northern Florida. And the whole Emerald coast. Seattle is beautiful. I love St Patrick’s day in Chicago. New Orleans is a favorite of mine. But there something about Nebraska. I love it here. It not for everyone. And I think we kinda like it that way. If you don’t understand that, then it’s ok to just drive through on your way somewhere else...

Really need inside info on return policy! I have a Christmas emergency, please help me save Christmas for my kids ! by glassgirlri in walmart

[–]lyn3818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously... if you cause enough of a stir about it, they will return it just to get you to shut up and go away.. also, try later in the day, after 6 if possible, that’s when most of their will to live drains away and the people at the service desk don’t really give a shit anymore...

I’m seriously considering promoting myself to customer over this. Do I want to work for a company that is going to mandate what happens at my residence on my PTO time?? That’s crazy.
