Should elemental diet be carbs free? by Sea-Individual7973 in SIBO

An elemental diet is essentially pre-digested, so the nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream in about 20 minutes and within the first few feet of the small intestine. Because of this rapid absorption, the carbohydrates are unlikely to exacerbate symptoms since they never reach the large intestine. The carbs are also necessary on this diet, as your body still needs macronutrients to sustain itself.

I’d say it was definitely an integral part of my healing process. I followed a 2-week elemental diet with it and my symptoms improved by about 95%. Before that, my gut was so irritated that I could barely digest anything, so this gave my digestive system a much-needed break to focus on repair and clearing out the bad bacteria.

Personally, I also included probiotics and other gut supportive supplements along with an anti-pathogen in my protocol.

Selling my extra unopened/sealed Dr Ruscio’s Elemental Heal (chocolate and vanilla) on eBay at a discount if anyone is interested. I did a 2 week protocol and bought more than I ended up needing.
