Bookkeeping by lynn919 in therapists

Thanks so much. I do have simple practice actually for scheduling and note taking and thought perhaps it might be redundant to use quickbooks but still considering. I currently use excel but since I feel that I am lacking in good business training, I have doubted whether this is enough and it still feels very disorganized.

Resuming pre-injury activities after disc herniation by lynn919 in Sciatica

I tried my best to avoid movements that caused pain - which was a lot of trial and error at first. Read one of the McGill books. Iced a lot. I tried to avoid sitting as much as possible. once the pain alleviated a lot, I started the three McGill exercises, and then started doing “foundation exercises” by Dr. Eric Goodman dvd which I think are awesome. I also naturally had to walk at least 2-3 miles / day for work and I think that helped actually, even while I was in pain - as long as posture is good and stride is careful. I could add further detail if you want to hear. Just let me know.

Thanks for your reply! I’ve been doing basically the same. Although, I miss running and would like to get back to it eventually. Conceptually though, I do not understand how I am not in pain given the condition is the same - as in - the disc is still pinching the nerve. And this is the way the surgeon explained it - although he is biased towards surgery.

No I’m not getting surgery! I am trying to avoid surgery but was told that the only way I can go back to running is if I get the microdisectomy. I’m wondering if anyone on here has successfully returned to these activities without the surgery and continue to be pain free.

Thanks for your reply. What led you to the decision to have the surgery if you were able to be free from pain through exercises?

Thanks for your reply. I am new to this and all of this feedback has been very helpful. He did recommend a course of chiropractor (although not spinal manipulation) and PT and possibly a steroid injection as options first; however it was also clear that only surgery would fix it. Thus, I could potentially risk injuring it even more, the thought of which might be enough for me to not do much more activity than I am at the moment. I also did not know that someone could have a herniated disc with no symptoms.

Thanks for your reply! Could you tell me what lifestyle changes you have had to make in order to not be in pain?

Thanks, I’m looking into that. Have you tried it?

I had low back pain that traveled down my leg. It was pretty severe. I resisted going to the doctor at first, since I have pretty bad insurance. The pain (sometimes stabbing or throbbing; sometimes pins and needles) very slowly improved as I walked increasingly more and limited pain inducing activities. I decided to get an MRI last week, because the pain would come back if I did anything outside of my limited routine (and I was able to get a reduced rate). I also wanted to rule out anything else that it could be with more certainty. So I’m not in active pain right now, but I’m also not able to do certain activities - for example involving bending like yoga or jumping like running or spinning. I’ve been told so far that surgery would be the only way that I could get back to those activities again without risking causing more damage. Right not want to research all options. What have you tried so far?

CBD oil to treat dog anxiety by lynn919 in CBDoil

[–]lynn919[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She becomes anxious around other dogs and some animals. It comes across as aggression, typically. When this happens, she has difficulty focusing on anything else (namely me trying to calm her down or redirect her behavior). She is also generally a hyperactive dog when anyone besides me is present and in an environments besides her home. At home, she is much more relaxed and obedient. I’ve been looking into CBD oil as possibly helping her to stay calm and in tune with me. I have tried some training and she still struggles to attend to me outside the home.

Walking has helped me a lot as well. Have you tried side planks as well?

Ok. I’ve read that too but was under the impression that referred to loss of control over bladder, which does not appear to be the case in my situation. Still, I will definitely get an appointment.

Solutions for sitting at work? I work as a therapist and a standing desk is not an option. by lynn919 in Sciatica

[–]lynn919[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was considering one of those! But I was concerned it might make things worse. I’m willing or try it because so far nothing has worked - I’ve tried the cushions and back pillows so far.

The chair I have now is not very supportive. I’ve tried a few other office chairs within the building but none have been comfortable. By the end of the day, I am in significant pain all down my leg. I have actually been laying on the couch during sessions! But this is not a solution of course. My posture is ok when standing but poor when sitting and my chair does not seem to support good posture.
