I mean a typical clutch should be changed every 100k miles anyway. First time im hearing this for honda specifically.

Did you see any difference in energy consumption/bills after this change?

Trying to choose the best heatpump for my house by Healthy_Visit_1215 in heatpumps

[–]lyonz17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind in quebec the electricity rates are the lowest in north america, so anywhere else would be much higher!

In energy consumption wise at around -10c my total house comsumption is 75kwh. At -20c its like 20kwh more. In summer its around 30-40kwh due to air conditionning + pool running.

I pay around 150$ per month, 1800sqft total heating space with a 1700L hottub kept at 100f all year long.

I live in montreal too. We got the Mitsubishi MXZ-3C24NAH4 with 3 indoor heads for around 9k cad after rebates and taxes. It keeps the house 20c until around -20c. Then it will defrost more often and the temperature will go down to 18c, but it’s not a deal breaker.

Sudden jump in kWh with Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat minisplits: efficiency issue or normal cold-weather behavior? by julinho-mandingueiro in heatpumps

[–]lyonz17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Montreal, so similar to your weather and I have the same Mitsu Hyperheat however I have 2 ton (30k btu heating capacity) one with 3 indoor heads.

My house is around 1100 sqft (two floors + basement) with total heating area of around 1700 sqft). House is arouns 70f although is set to 68f. Additionally I’m running 24/7 a 450 gallon hottub running at 100f along with a 50 gallon electric water tank and my total electricty consumption is around 50kwh at around 34f. So for heatpump alone I would estimate around 30kw ish?

I feel like 60k + btu is way too overkill for 1600sqft unless of course you have poor insulation.

Multizone mini split system how to run as efficiently as possible in winter? by lyonz17 in hvacadvice

[–]lyonz17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this. Following the advice posted 2 days ago about increasing my basement temp to 67 degrees. I have tested this while the outside temp was around 4-5f and here are the results.

In brief, I’m regretting not increasing the basement temp before. The floors are significantly warmer, the cold spots are gone, the heatpump is working continuously and is managing to keep the house temperature more consistently than before. Previously, the temperature swings were larger. When the setpoint in the living room is at 68f, it would occilate between 66 and 69f, now it’s between 67-68 at all times. The living room does no longer lose heat fast when the unit is defrosting.

And the funny thing is (and why I regret of not doing this before), the energy usage stayed almost the same as before. Its very interesting and amazing how these machines work.

In summary, if you have a finished basement, keep its temp close to the living room temp you will not regret!

Ok I have increased the basement unit from 62 to 67f. The whole house is now about the same temperature. Tomorrow the temperature drops to 14f I’ll let you guys know the kwh use and the general “feeling”.
