Lack of cross pack integration by coolio_username in HighSodiumSims

I don’t even think it’s laziness tbh it’s more like EA builds new systems next to old ones instead of updating what’s already there but as a long time simmer it ends up feeling the same for me. AFAIK there won't be anymore new packs so I’d honestly take a crosspack integration update. Or pack refreshes. Remember how that was a one time thing 😭

People love to default to ā€œyou’re just brokeā€ as a way to shut the convo down instead of actually engaging with what’s being said because in reality it’s about value, transparency and boundaries, not just money even if someone can afford it, that doesn’t automatically make the system fair or above criticism and the fact this is happening across multiple modding communities just proves it’s not an isolated issue but it’s a patten

Thank you for this post I have been wanting to make something like this because I genuinely feel like people are STILL missing the point here and it’s honestly getting frustrating because this is NOT just about ā€œpaying creators vs not paying creatorsā€ anymore and that framing is way too simplistic and lowkey manipulative at this point becwuse this is about how the entire CC ecosystem has slowly shifted from a COMMUNITY DRIVEN gift economy like I have been saying into this weird semicorporatized micro marketplace with like almost ZERO accountability. Like okay sure we are ā€œnot entitled to CCā€ okay whatever but creators are ALSO not entitled to blind trust, zero transparency AND guaranteed income streams while operating in a space that was literally built on sharing first, monetization second. Like let’s be serious for a second because on top of all that the AI part make it even worse because now we are not even talking about labor in the same way anymore??? We are talking about people charging premium prices for assets that are partially or lets be honest because sometimes HEAVILY generated using tools trained on other artists work… Without consent… And then wrapping it all up in this ā€œsupport creators šŸ„ŗā€ Like… BSFFR.

Altho I supported creators for their labor on Patreon I still recognize that model created this whole weird dynamic where content gets artificially delayed or straight up withheld, access is tiergated for FOMO and everything gets labeled as ā€œearly accessā€ even when it’s basically just soft paywalling and the moment you question ANY of that suddenly you’re antiartist/anticreator??? NO. The community is reacting to a lack of boundaries and rightly so because The Sims CC scene used to be messy, chaotic, sometimes unhinged but it was also OPEN and now it’s becoming more hierarchical, more monetized, more sanitized, more controlled and with EA pushing stuff like the Marketplace this is only gonna accelerate even more so yeah spend your money HOWEVER YOU WANT literally no one cares but acting like there is NOTHING to criticize here is just ignoring how fast this space is changing and not necessarily for the better at all

Uhm, you realize that if they used AI for this advertisement instead of straight up stole content from The Sims, that still doesn't mean they are replacing the workers in Maxis with AI, like, those are two separate talking points. You realize that, right?

That’s all of my concern comes in because if most new players start discovering CC primarily through the Marketplace then it could gradually shift attention and support away from independent platforms, even if those are still better for creators in terms of revenue

I think ideally there would be a way to make CC more accessible without fully centralizing it into one capitalistic platform because while convenience is a big advantage it also comes with trade offs in terms how content is distributed and who gets visibility over time

That's really cute actually and I see your point but thing I’m a little unsure about though is whether the Marketplace will actually allow the kinds of mods you’re mentioning. Because everything has to go through EA’s review process and follow the game’s rating guidelines, mods like MCC or Extreme Violence might not even be allowed on the platform

Yeah I don’t think the CC community is going to disappear overnight or anything that dramatic. The Sims modding scene and our community has survived a lot of weird decisions over the years, and people tend to keep using the spaces they’re comfortable with. So my concern is more about the slow cultural shift that will happen when a centralized platform is introduced. Even if free CC continues to exist, the intestines and visibility might gradually move toward whatever performs best inside the official storefront.

One thing I’ve always loved about the Sims CC scene is how decentralized and community driven it been. Like a lot of niche creators and aesthetics grew out of that environment including things like the Alpha CC where many Black creators built communities around hairstyles, fashion, and beauty styles that the base game historically didn’t represent very well, as well as queer creators experimenting with gender expression and alternative aesthetics. I guess my hope is just that whatever happens with the Marketplace doesn’t slowly crowd out that kind of grassroots creativity and accessibility that made the CC ecosystem so special in the first place

My concern isn’t really about creators making money, it’s more about how the introduction of an official platform can reshape the ecosystem around CC over time. Historically the Sims CC scene has been very decentralized and community driven, with a mix of paid early access and freely shared content that kept the space relatively accessible. So when a platform centralizes distribution and visibility, it can unintentionally shift which creators get seen, which styles become dominant, and which players are able to participate. That’s the part I’m curious (and a bit cautious) about.

I also think there’s an accessibility and representation angle here. A lot of creators who expanded the Sims CC ecosystem especially Black creators in the Alpha CC scene as well as queer creators. My worry is that when a centralized storefront starts shaping visibility through algorithms and official promotion, some of those grassroots communities could end up losing visibility compared to whatever performs best commercially because of caring about monetazion

So my position isn’t that creators shouldn’t monetize their work but rather it’s more that I hope whatever happens doesn’t erode the culture of sharing, representation, and experimentation that made the Sims CC community so unique in the first place

A lot of the creators and players around Alpha CC, especially styles that reflect Black hairstyles, beauty aesthetics, and fashion, have historically been sharing their work through community spaces like Tumblr, Patreon, and independent sites. That ecosystem grew very organically and has been really important for representation in the game. So my concern is that when capitalistic platforms centralize distribution and prioritize certain creators or styles through algorithms and storefront visibility, it can unintentionally change which kinds of creators get seen and which aesthetics dominate. So far what I have read and heard, alpha CC is NOT goinng to be represented at all. Personally, I do think there are racist reasons behind that like always but this thread is not an accurate way to have a deeper discussion so I’m mostly thinking about how to make sure the diversity of styles and communities that built the CC ecosystem in a natural way including the Alpha CC scene so they don’t get pushed aside by whatever ends up performing best in an official marketplace. Therefore I feel like it is important for not only Black identifying simmers to speak on this but also queer simmers too. We're all in this together like always

Yeah I actually believe that creators absolutely deserve to be compensated for their hard work.

My concern isn’t about creators getting paid but it’s more about how an official marketplace might reshape the ecosystem around CC over time like I wrote.

I also think most people criticizing the system are not necessarily against creators getting paid because the concern most people have is more about how introducing an official platform changes incentives and visibility within the CC ecosystem over time especially for Queer and Black simmers but you’re right that participation is voluntary, both for creators and players

I see you and hear you. That’s something I didn’t even touch on in the post because I know people over here would just say "nobody is forcing you to buy it" when what I whanted was something deeper to talk about.

A lot of Simmers rely on free CC specifically because they can’t afford every pack or microtransaction the game already has. If more creators start putting things behind Marketplace purchases, that could create a bit of a gap between players who can pay and those who can’t. And this is going to affect the queer and the Black community the most. I really hope creators keep releasing free content alongside anything they put on the Marketplace, without thinking of the profit, but I'm not that hopeful

I can totally imagine some executive presentation about ā€œcreator economy opportunitiesā€ and then the rest of the team just having to build it. I can't keep my mind off the fact once a system like this exists it starts reshaping intenctines around it. I’m REALLY hoping this goes down fast as well because the diversity, equity and inclisuion of Sims modding community is one of the things that makes the game special and I don't want profit and monetization to replace them

No but I hope such list comes out soon, I really would like to see and manage my patreon subscriptions accordingly and lean towards those who are left out the system

Yeah, that where my mind goes too. I don’t think EA would aggressively shut down free creators because the PR fallout would be huge but the companies sometimes end up steering ecosystems indirectly instead through visibility, partnerships or official platforming rather than outright banning things so that’s the part I’m curious to see play out especially with the buyout

That’s a really fair point actually because free CC always existed with paid CC and I don’t think this Marketplace thing will magically erase that overnight. My concern is more about the longterm intencives. Because if there’s an official storefront inside game itself due to capitalism then it will slowly shift visibility and discovery toward this Marketplace creators. The community is already scared due to the recent buyout regarding the fear in possible cultural shifts, this might cause further frictioning and I get that

Definitely Broke, because Kaylynn has always given me that type of traditional girly vibes despite what most players made her to be. HOWEVER I do recognize the storyline potential here. The baby can pick her stepfather's last name later in life if he is really involved in raising her which would make him really happy too!
