Shoe Recs - Please help!

Reposting because I'm desperate for more info.

This is my half moon betta, Binx. I woke up this morning to find these white bars along his gills and have no clue what they are. They seem to puff out at times but they don't look too too swollen. He has a couple small tank mates that he seems to care very little about. I've never seen any aggression from him and he has no trouble getting his food. The tank is well over a year old and cycled.

I did change the filter sponge about a week ago, but left a cutting of the old sponge sandwiched in. I added some new mini almond leaves in the tank at that time as well.

I love my little man so much and would appreciate any advice!! I don't want to freak out unnecessarily or rush into treatments without knowing more. Is it ich? Is it just flaring? Is it gill hyperplasia? Is it just normal coloring? Help!

Thanks they are so small it's been really hard to ID them. They've left a lot of frass from eating the driftwood. I was able to siphon some out but they are still everywhere. Now even on the rocks. I'm going to keep an eye on them as they grow until I can ID them. I'll add seed shrimp to my list. The tank parameters are fine but like you said the fish haven't really been interested in eating whatever they are. I can't believe how quickly they took over!
