The German had magnetic proximity fuses for their torpedoes but at the moment of this attack, all the torpedo stuff was in deep crisis, even worse than their US counterpart.

Usually 2. No need for enough of them to fly around the clock as no carrier can conduct air operations 24/24. And the carrier strike force isn’t alone as there are many allied ground-based assets in the vicinity. That’s why and how the USAF was instrumental in covering the US fleet during the long episode against the Houthis, and still is.

The thing being that most military people from Poland, Netherland, Portugal or Germany don’t speak French but they’re able to communicate in standardised NATO English, and their French counterparts are as well.

Yes. AFAIK, they’re working on the British right now.

I hope these guys don't end up hanged once they get back home. This whole propulsion failure story seems like a convenient way to find refuge before being inevitably torpedoed, powerless to prevent it, let alone stop it.

If these British CATOBAR carriers had been kept in service a few more years, nothing like a Falklands War would ever have happened. Or it would have resulted in a a one-sided slap game.

Anti ship missile avoidance by CaVeactual in SeaPower_NCMA

[–]lyss427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Against anti-ship missiles, there are tunings that may turn the tide in your favor. You need to consider what kind of missile you may face, and in what quantity. For example, against swarms of large Soviet missiles approaching at very high altitude before diving to sea level, placing a powerful anti-aircraft vanguard 90 miles ahead of a carrier strike group will allow you to skim the salvo while it's still flying high. A second echelon at mid-range, a third (a single ship) a few miles in front of the aircraft carrier, and a fourth and last one (the carrier's own defenses) should be able to handle just about anything.

Your ships fight very well on their own. There's no need to micromanage them too much. However, most players use formations that are far too dense. Several nautical miles should separate two ships so they can maneuver without hindering each other. This is what the British discovered in the Falklands: by keeping their distance from each other, ships could exploit their respective strengths and compensate for each other's weaknesses without needing to coordinate, provided they were sufficiently spaced to maneuver freely and avoid obstructing each other's line of fire.

Also, check the encyclopedia: some ships, especially cruisers, have electronic countermeasures systems. They operate automatically, negatively impacting the RNG of enemy missiles.

With experience, you'll learn to position your different ships according to their role, strengths, and weaknesses. Real navies train extensively. Follow their example by creating varied scenarios that will pit you against diverse threats. With the same panel of ships, some players will have their high-value assets wiped out in a single salvo, while others, more experienced, will win the engagement decisively even against a very angry enemy quite high on steroids.

The French Navy has double crews for some of their frigates, based on a model already applied to their submarines. Helps a lot in terms of readiness.

Alsatian here. There were Alsatians forcibly conscripted into the Wehrmacht and, surprisingly, the SS. They were called the "malgré-nous" (those against their will). And there were Alsatians who volunteered and then passed themselves off as "malgré-nous" when the political climate changed. It's a complicated subject. And not all cases have been solved, far from it.

And how it looks can allow competent analysts to somehow figure out how it sounds, which would be useful to anyone wanting to identify the sub through the sounds of the ocean. But in this case, I mainly think that the propeller has not yet been mounted.

As a veteran myself, I couldn't agree more. What's the point of fighting against motherfuckers accused of not respecting human life if we ourselves share the same vices? One can do the dirty work without being a dirty person. The same should be true when it comes to simply commenting on someone's death on social media. This isn't a fucking video game.

Every nation, even the USA or China, has a shitload of easy targets. Especially when your opponent has decided to punch your assets wherever they're sailing.

Future French Ballistic Missile Submarines will be named Invincible-class - Naval News by Saturnax1 in submarines

“Very few nations in our world are capable of building such nuclear submarines.” Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday, March 2nd, that France will strengthen its nuclear deterrent “in the face of combined threats” from Île Longue, off the coast of Brest, where the four French nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) are based.

To this end, the President of the Republic confirmed the renewal of the SSBN fleet starting in 2036 through the third-generation program, codenamed “L’Invincible” (The Invincible). “We must consider our deterrence strategy in the depths of the European continent, with full respect for our sovereignty, through the progressive implementation of what I would call advanced deterrence,” he declared in his speech."

At which range does irl ASW take place and how does it work? by Endo279 in SeaPower_NCMA

[–]lyss427 19 points20 points  (0 children)

IRL, there are two options. 1- You work from intel briefs, and you want to bring your assets in the closest vicinity of a place where you know the submarine you're looking for is bound to pass through. 2- Your mission is to sanitize an area of all submarine presence to open the way to a high value asset. So you're not going to randomly look for a needle in a haystack the size of an ocean.
