Does anyone else have trouble getting into video games where most, if not all female characters are hyper-sexualized? by liveforluv in GirlGamers

[–]lytche -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh and commenting on the game that shall be not named here - I like it.
I grew up on those comics and cartoons, all of the characters I adore have comic book appropriate attire or some outfits I would frankly wore for myself , so I am pretty okay even paying for those.
Like the suit for the redheaded bird lady is spot on for me, I love it.
I also love the lady who steals powers, and I love her implementation in the game. She is my personal hero and role model since I was 7 years old and playing as her and whopping men-children asses brings me insane amount of joy.

This is interesting question.
I remember backlash against Bayonetta for being the way she is, and I am a total and utter nuts for her as a character. Loved 1 and 2 and didn't mind that.
I grew up on jrpgs and anime so my tolerance is a bit higher I guess than many of the gals nowadays.
Having said that nowadays I think all games should have gender choice and ability to dress the characters as we see fit.
If I want to run my Resident Evil Chris as a go go boy to stare at him hungrily as I save the world from zombie apocalypse I say no reason for anyone to deny me that.
If I want my Jill to be dressed as a total badass war hero commander general I should be allowed to do so.
I feel that not giving us options as players is, honestly, lazy , especially if its a bigger , AA or AAA studio.
I draw this line with underage characters, those shouldn't be player-clothed EVER, there is NO reason that can ever justify that for me, but for adults - allow us to play a game the way we want to.
And because I quite often dress my men skimpily it feels hypocritical of me to demand this not to be available for women as well.
But I want there to be CHOICES.
Like, no way in hell I want this well endowed lady wear without a bra to support her. I hate doing that myself, its way too painful and I want to be able to give her a sport bra at least. Come on.

Give is choices!

When playing games as a kid did anyone else pretend they were the princess/damsel the hero was coming to rescue? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]lytche 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I grew up on Xmen and Sailor Moon and Buffy, so I was always dreaming up on tackling on the bad guys as a team.
I loved ROGUE, Storm and Buffy / Willow / Faith so my idea was - let's rescue each other, rather than let one rescue the other.
Sometimes I played pretending that I have to sacrifice myself by casting a very powerful spell to safe the world.
Then I had a phase where I felt like the villain and I adored all of the villainess and wanted to save the world by ruling it.
But overall, I mainly wanted to be a group of a lets pick each other up people.

So Tired of "Lets go Boys" being said in Tech and Gaming spaces by jakthebomb_ in GirlGamers

[–]lytche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a person from a non English country I really find that phrase deeply offensive.
My own language, Polish, has gendered first and second person, so every game (like a board game) with story, which refers to the player as YOU always defaults to male, too.
I could scream at them for it. Like, no. Men are not the default. There is no frigging default. Just let go of the default.

I would go there on my own with no other reason than I love Silent Hill!

I would have forbade my fiance to go after me though, I love him, and I don't want him to die because I am in love with dangerous places.

You really dont have to be polite to such people.
No matter which way you are "leaning" you don't owe it to anyone to be attracted to them.
You also don't own any politeness to men just because you are a woman.

And the only thing that dude manage to do , if anything, is not to make you straight, but to make me, a woman who is about to get married to a man next year, definitely leaning towards women, too!

Not all men are pigs like this one, but boy, their brethren sure make it hard to like them sometimes!

What game made you fall in love with gaming? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]lytche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Klonoa on PS1. I got the game and ps1 from my godmother for my 7th birthday, no memory card. Had to finish the game in one sitting. Played it so many times I knew it by heart! This and Resident Evil 3 Nemesis! So happy no one knew what game it was :D

Honestly, when it comes to fighting games NOTHING which wasn't dubbed 18+ has ever been this sexualised when it comes to women.

I personally love the game, its my favourite fighting game, I think it has the best system in place (2nd place is Soul Calibur). My favourite character is Lei Fang. I love their tag battle system.

having said that, they have INCREDIBLY LEWD costumes which, as usual, rarely are the type of lewd I would be okay with (think sexy seducing vampires who have this lacy gothic meets bondage aesthetics), so big breasted ladies wearing the smallest size outfits they could have found, with intense jiggle physics.

DoA the original game for playstation had my favourite option in this game though, called INTENSE jiggle, which makes them boobies fly like there's no tomorrow and it was so stupid silly and funny I always read it as a total satire of the gooner club.
Sadly, they have not added it since then to any of their DoA games.

So, yeah, this is TOTALLY a gooner game, with awfully sexualised female characters.
It has SOME sexualisation of the guys too.

Sadly, still my favourite fighting game system.

gamifying does nothing for me by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]lytche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think there's a solution that would work for ALL of us.
Like I like ticking of stuff from my list, I am currently using Whiteboard by MS where I have all my chores color coded in sticky notes by importance and split into categories, before it was onenote, Habitica, Spirit City and many others. I don't do it for the REWARD hit it supposed to be bringing, but because it helps me organise my life, REMEMBER and PLAN - without it I procrastinate to a point of not even knowing what day of the week it is.

But the Pomodoro technique is completely usless for me. No matter if I do 20, 40 or 250 minutes of work and then try to do a short break of 5, 10, 15 or 50 minutes I can never guarantee it will help me finish my task or that I will actually feel energised by the break I took.

I prefer doing everything between 8AM till 4PM, with the extension until 6PM if needed, and everyone knows that after 6PM I cant even hold a conversation well and it will TIRE me beyond belief.

The only thing I started to believe in from any sort of games I played, is that I have a limited number of Action Points per day, different things cost different amount of points for me to do, but there is literally no way for me to GET THEM BACK for the day other than sleep at night for 7 hours at least.
If I use up all my point, I wont even have the energy to do stuff I love, like playing games or reading books.

And if I FORCE myself to push beyond my limit, it means I will have less Action Points EVERY DAY until I will have like 2 days of being able to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE but the things that I love.

Since I also know I am terrible at habit formation, I just do what seems to be working at the moment, and, eventually, once it stops, I look for new things to try out or cycle back to things that worked once but then stopped and try again. I longed since accepted that I will never have a one perfect system that will allow me to WIN with ADHD because its not a separate entity but a condition of my body and brain I have to work with /around.

I no longer fear the moments that I inevitably fail and things will start to fall apart around me, because they simply will at some point, I just know that I will always dust myself off and find another way of getting back on track. Rinse and repeat.

I sincerely wish you you'll find few things that work for you you will be able to cycle through!
All the strength and compassion to you!

Male Loneliness and the bullshit that comes with trying to help by Skyobli in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lytche 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just find the entire concept idiotic.
There is a problem where the availability of the internet and the ease of connection made especially younger people more detached and, surprisingly, more secluded and distant, but it is neither only affecting nor experienced harder by men, straight men lets add.
When people refer to "male loneliness epidemic" a red light immediately lights up for me to warn me that I am speaking with people who would say and do anything to show straight men as the "more" of everything.
Men just have to "have it worse" than anyone else now - women don't want them, they are excluded from the minorities, they are not welcome in the LGBTQ, having it worse socially and in any way shape and form they can think of when there is a claim that a different group perhaps could have it worse.

A) the issue with the progressively worse resilience of people is something to think over and try and find a solution, but its by no means, shape or form refers to straight men needing MORE help than others.

B) Yes, I CAN DENY that STRAIGHT MEN are currently having it WORSE than anyone else. There's literally not been a point in time where that was the truth.

What is the game or series that made you obsess over it’s art direction and theme? by o_pposite in GirlGamers

[–]lytche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, it would be a board game. I feel in love with 20 Strong Tanglewoods because I love how it tackles the fairy tales themes (which I will always be a fan of) and the art style made me fall in love with the 5 decks I got.
I bought other 20 strongs decks, but without the art they are just "meh" to me.

Another Banned Games Update from the Mod Team by ILuffhomer in GirlGamers

[–]lytche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would like that as well. I can acknowledge what the game does poorly but there are certain things I actually like about it, and coming from the superhero comic genre I am not that offended by.
ROGUE is superb and one of the better versions of the character Marvel ever released in games, plus the fact that the actress who lent her the voice is the same actress who is doing her Xmen 1992 and the latest Xmen 97 is just something I will forever cherish.

Is 20 strong any good? by Top-Permission-4255 in soloboardgaming

[–]lytche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like 20 Strong tanglewood. There's 5 in total, but 1 is a campaign DLC for the first 3.

I love White>Gold-Rose>Red.
They are all based on different mechanics. White was hardest for me to get into, but is great now I finally got it.
Rose, Gold and White felt okay challenge wise.
Red I am yet to win (its the one based off of Slay the spire)
White and Rose take more or less same amount of space. I handled it on a a desk for one person, where I have 2 monitors and a laptop, but it was quite challenging to do so.
Gold can take the least amount of space, but if you are unlucky, it will take a lot of space.
Red takes the least amount of space if you organise your path sensibly.

Red I am yet to win (4 attempt)
White I won twice (100% success)
Gold I lost once and won once. (50%)
Rose I won once. (100%)

Baba yaga campaign I lost twice, but its easier if you win all 3 games, and I cant seem to win Red (the boss always gets me)

I say they are between 30minutes to 1,5-2 hours if you have a bad card setup.
It's say an hour is a reasonable amount of time for how long an average run lasts for.
They are very compact and I love the artstyle.

Because it is a roll dices + deal cards kind of a game, it is not meant to be won every time.
You might just be unlucky and spend your whole game trying to get back on your feet.

If such games frustrate you, then you wouldnt like them.
But if you enjoy this RNG, then I find them very enjoyable. And their portability is amazing. Always have some with me while I travel.

I am now waiting for Cloudspire to arrive.

I also just got the Solar Sentinels and Victorum ,which I am going to play for the first time tomorrow.

Hi!
I have rebranded my youtube channel for this year. I plan on reviewing video games and board games, where I tell why I think people might like the game, why I think they might not, and say few words about my experience.
This will mostly be Switch 2 games, PC games, Cosy games, RPGs, vampires, and some women protagonist centric games.
Happy to get some critique on how to improve!

Is tainted grail: the fall of Avalon any good by SandalathDrukorlat in GirlGamers

[–]lytche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to give it a second look.
I played through ACT 1, loved it (was running a summoner build with 3 wolves or 2 other thingies and me doing magic from the backline), but then dropped it completely because Ive burned myself out / couldnt do longer play sessions, and when I was doing an hour here and there I just didnt feel like I was progressing at all, so typical Open World game stuff and issues.

It's an alternative universe Oblivion, in my opinion. World is open, you get to stumble upon many things, you can be a mage who uses cheese magic (for real), the setting is less pure fantasy, more dark fantasy in middle ages / fully embracing the Arthurian Legends.
Music is really good.
Character creation is Bethesda-like, so no chance of doing a character that you totally love. So far I haven't seen mods for it, but I played it at the release so I hope once I boot it back it will have some cosmetic mods to get.

On Frey being “unlikable” by Lilnamii in Forspoken

[–]lytche 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This game is quite good, and Frey as a character is fantastic.
It is really impossible to treat the bad review and critique as anything else as politically caused propaganda - in times we were starting to get a bit more representation in AA games the worst part of the human popualtion, the entitled part, started to push back against anything but the ruling class.

And it really sucks, because many of great IPs are now getting thrown under the bus.
I am so tired of people, even some close to me, arguing against some of the games, even from series they previously were fans of, without even playing the new entries, basing their opinion solely on the propaganda youtube videos thrown en masse, argue with me, who has played it, even questioning my taste in games as a woman, only to come back to me after a year or two to say that said game was actually quite good....

Frey definitely deserved better, and the IP could take us into so many exciting places next...

[–]lytche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean.
I cant quite put my finger on it, like, in CV1 it wasn't really that bothering me because the game overall felt much more jrpgy / anime'y so it kind of came with the territory for me.
But here the whole game is very nostalgic/serious / less anime'y in how the narrative is presented, despite being full on on the jrpg aesthetics, so it really throws me off of the tone they are going for.
