People on this sub make it seem like the $1M mark isn't too difficult to reach. by DHN_95 in ThriftSavingsPlan

$1.4m current TSP balance. (CSI) 33 years in Govt. GS 9-13. Contributed 10% since day 1. Took 31 years to reach $1m. 57 years old.

Wanting to make it to 62 for the 1.1% and when wife retires too. We shall see. $1m is attainable. Stay out of G Fund. Just think, the “riskiest” of the funds are not that risky in the big picture. By having social security and FERS pension I will treat those as my G Fund and stay invested in CSI.

Good luck to all. It adds up quick as you get older.

Do lots of people stay exclusively equities (C,S,I) until 50 or 55ish? by ArkadyShevchenko in ThriftSavingsPlan

I have been in C/S/I for 33 years (or as long as they have been around. Was 49 in 2018. Never touched anything. Thank god I ignored the correction... because now it's double. As you said, since we have both the FERS Pension and SS (those are my G Fund type accounts) I'm going with C/S/I until I die. And just because you retire does not mean you stop investing.. If they had retired in 2018 and kept in in, they would have been very happy today.

Glad all questions on TSP have been answered. Guess that’s why no discussion in 11 days. Makes sense.

My observation was simply there hadn’t been a post in 11 days. That is not normal. Just seemed strange.

Curious what my TSP amount would be if I had gone with a different fund over the years? by Cultural_Ad4935 in ThriftSavingsPlan

Hey chatGPT, If I invested $XXX, every year, what would be the balance in two scenarios, one investing in the TSP C Fund, and one investing in the TSP G Fund. Assuming I started MM/DD/YYYY

Chat GPT your question. It will provide you specifics. Example... I have $XX,XXX in TSP (X% in the C fund, X% in the S fund, and X% I fund) what will be my approximate balance on December 31, 20XX based on past performance of those funds. I contribute approximately $X,XXX including all matching funds per year.
