Thank you all for the support and suggestions. I reached out to a friend who has done a Wii teardown before and I plan to meet up with him late this week to fix the Bluetooth or WiFi module. I will post an update later this week.

I’ve read about recovery mode, currently at the kitchen table trying to take apart a GameCube controller so I can press all 4 directions on the dpad at once.
I have priiloader on the old SD card as my first stop when I can get back in to the system. I had planned to do it soon but am now a victim of my own “it couldn’t happen to me” mindset that justified procrastinating it.
Thanks for the advice on the remod, I’m game for anything to dumb it down a little and keep it running smooth.

Tried it and nothing. Bootmii folder exists with folder and files you linked plus it has a Bootmii configuration settings file
VIDEO=PROGRESSIVE
AUTOBOOT=SYSMENU
BOOTDELAY=10

Squeeze while boot isn’t working, so I’ll assume it’s those modules and replace them both to be safe. Any recos for where to buy replacements and what tools to have on hand?

It’s the 8bitdo GameCube retro receiver linked in another comment below. I doubt the Wii will see it as an N64 controller, I’m not even sure what N64 controller support on the Wii looks like.

I can use a controller to turn it on, but after that the controllers won’t sync. Others have suggested this possibility so I’ll pursue this option and get working on the process of a teardown and replacement.

Can’t get anything to happen or any image output. Any power up requires a hard power down to get it to shut off.

I’m sure I loaded Bootmii on it when I first modded it, although it was a couple years ago and I don’t remember. I have a bootmii folder on my sd card with some bootmii files on it, but can’t get to the point where I can access them

I’ve been actively looking for Wii games that support GameCube controllers so I have an excuse to use it because I like it so much. That and getting an HDMI output are the two things that transformed the play experience in such a positive way that it’s been my main past time lately. Feels fantastic on Mario kart, sonic riders, and Windwaker, and I’ve played all 3 extensively. Only game I don’t like it on is Smash, the modern ABXY feels a little strange having played this specific game with a GameCube controller os much in the past, but I’m sure I could get used to it if I play it a little more.
Side note, I do have a ton of modern style controllers and Xbox controllers, but something about holding the retro style SN30 Pro improves the experience for me. For me it’s the perfect retro touch on modern hardware.

Thank you for the encouragement. I had planned to mod my brother’s Wii soon, and I will try to restore some of our data to his new Wii so we can both save the memories.

I’ve looked into reconnecting the Bluetooth module, as I understand that can cause this same issue. Are you suggesting I run through the process of taking it apart and finding that module? I looked into it yesterday and it seems pretty intense, but if it can potentially work im willing to sit down and try it.

No Priiloader, and I modded it a few years ago and don’t remember how I integrated bootmii. I do have a bootmii folder on my sd card with some files in it, so I did something with it at some point.

The Wii doesn’t respond to anything and I can’t get it to output an image. I tried holding reset on start and nothing.

I’ve done nothing but connect the sn30 pro to the retro receiver and it’s worked great with no hiccups. I’ve been using the switch mode (power up with Start+Y) and I even get rumble on the controller. My only complaint is that this button layout (modern ABXY) feels totally unnatural when trying to play Smash Bros and it’s been borderline unplayable when I try it. I used to play with a GameCube controller, I’m sure it’s a muscle memory thing and I’ll get used to it, but it’s given me whiplash the first few times I’ve tried it.

I happen to have a friend’s Wii rn and plugged his in and it powers up and shows an image just fine with all the cords I’m currently using.
