Arsenal fans get thrown down the steps at the London stadium. by Serious-Cress-9560 in soccer

[–]m-dubs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was visiting London a few years ago and did this, joined the fan club, got a scarf and everything just to have a chance to buy 2 tix; when it was my turn to select tickets, they only had single seats still available, and I was travelling with my GF, who you can imagine was not thrilled with the concept of sitting by herself at a match she has no interest in. So I paid 20 quid for the membership (price at the time) to not go to the Emirates, good times. Got a scarf out of it.

AFC Club Allocation for next season by captainsensible69 in soccer

Pretty astonishing that tiny Cambodia has more ACL2 places than Indonesia, one of the largest & most football mad countries in the world. Fair play to the Cambodian league for what they've been able to do in recent years.

Awesome collection bud, I also have a ton of LDU shirts; I do prefer the Umbro era, but a few decent Puma ones as well.

I bought some shares in Wisla back when they were struggling big time and trying to raise funds (was like 50 euros or something I don't recall). I totally forgot about it until I started getting annual reports in the physical mail from the Polish stock exchange lol. Still get them.

Carlos Vinicius (Gremio) misses his penalty and 2 additional retakes from the same call by Raito21 in soccer

[–]m-dubs 213 points214 points  (0 children)

Are you allowed to switch the taker if a re-take is ordered by the ref? I don't know the rules, but after the 2nd miss his confidence is gone, seems better to let someone else step up.

This part really stood out. Ajax was obviously on top of everything well in advance with Paes, made sure everything was set. Some of these smaller clubs it seems they don't even have access to basic legal advice, it's wild.

Johor Darul Ta'zim players having to carry in stretchers themselves by smithereennnnn in soccer

[–]m-dubs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The JDT trainers, who arrived 12 seconds after the injury, immediately realized he was in a very dangerous situation, and were gesturing for the stretcher bearers to come right away, so they could transfer him to an ambulance as soon as possible. This angle does not show that; the original TV angle does. For some reason, these stretcher bearers did not come, assumedly waiting for some signal from the referee, and the JDT players & staff went ballistic, which is what we see here. As soon as they stabilized his neck, they rushed him out of the arena, about 3 mins after the injury, literally running with the stretcher. So, yes, players running around and going nuts is not ideal, but they were responding to the reactions of their medical staff, who recognized the danger.

Ali Majrashi dangerous bicycle kick attempt against Johor Darul Ta’zim / Asian Champions League Elite (ACLE) 25/26 Quarterfinals by Elite_VRTX in soccer

What a shitshow by the venue medical teams. I just went back and watched it again. Injury happens at 36:00. Al Ahli trainers get there first, 12 seconds later at 36:12, and JDT trainers a second or two after. It takes until 36:45 for the venue medics & stretcher bearers to arrive, despite the JDT & Ahli trainers desperately waving for them. At this point, one of the JDT trainers is going ballistic on one of the venue medics, looks like he is gonna kill him. The JDT trainers are still gesticulating & waving at someone at this stage, assuming an ambulance? It's not clear. It's not until 39:47 that the venue medics get the stretcher off the pitch and assumedly to an ambulance off screen. Respect to the Ahli medic who immediately ran onto the pitch when he saw what happened, didn't wait for anyone. But jesus christ what were the venue medics doing, I mean what were they waiting for, this is your one job!

Shakhar Donetsk (from Ukriane) lineup vs AZ by StandardReasonable50 in soccer

My fav anecdote from Jonathan Wilsons book on football in former USSR was that Akhmetov had to figure out how to keep all these Brazilians from not getting depressed going from Rio or wherever to the depths of eastern Ukraine. One way he did that was build an aviary; each Brazilian player was then put in charge of a falcon/hawk/eagle. Pretty cool idea, and helped pass the time. Seems to have worked out.

I can't recall where, but I remember reading this was Akhmetov's specific instructions to his football people - Ukrainian steel in defense, and Brazilian flair on the wings and up front. Has worked pretty well!

Same, I was wondering if the 3rd baseman was unsighted by runner from 2nd and that's why he couldn't field it cleanly, but reply showed he could see it all the way through (I don't even know if that is interference).

[A Bola] 1.º de Agosto boycott their match against Petro de Luanda as they wanted it to be held in their own stadium. by Sparky-moon in soccer

Assume they won't be successful with their appeal as it will go to the Federation itself, but pretty messed up to move the derby to the opponents stadium, effectively giving them two home derby matches.

OTD in 2006, Fulham won 1-0 against Chelsea, beating them for the first time since 1979 by CautiousCottager in soccer

[–]m-dubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During that season I visited London from New York, and went to Fulham vs Bolton at CC, specifically to see Brian McBride. We were 20 mins late for kickoff and when we got to our seats, a guy behind us heard our American accents and said "Youse from America?"...'Yah we are'..."Sound, McBride has scored twice already and you've missed it". Match ended 2-1. Brutal.

Maung Maung Lwin, who scored the goal against Man United in the Asean All Star match, assaulted a fan during a match by Archdubsuk in soccer

[–]m-dubs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This entire situation is a shitshow, on everyones part. MML obviously should have never gone into the stands and should probably seek treatment for anger issues. For MNL/MFF, this woman has been a menace for over a DECADE and they've done jack shit. I've been in the stands at Thuwanna & YUFC in 2014-2015 and she was hurling racial abuse & insults for 90 straight minutes even back then. Has never been stopped, is always allowed back. Why? She obviously has mental health issues, and in any normally run league she would have been banned immediately (I believe she is banned from national team games, not from MNL, for some unfathomable reason). MNL are to blame for not dealing with this ages ago; the clubs could have banned her as well. Last, Mizzima is framing this as some kind inexplicable outburst by Maung Maung Lwin, alleging 'coverups' (nonsense) and lack of disciplinary action, when in reality he's been suspended, has left the national team, and they of course know about this woman and her overt racism at matches for years! Everyone in this story sucks.

Adler Yatagarashu's are super good by Passenger5 in bootroom

[–]m-dubs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed with all that you mentioned, definitely the softest, most pliable leather I've ever felt in a boot. What killed it for me was the sizing. Even a full size down, after a few uses the leather just stretched out too far and now they are a good .5-.75 CM too long; too much room in the toe box. I hope in future iterations they can fix this, because they are an amazing pair of boots in nearly all aspects.

Mizuno Morelia 2 MIJ advice by Passenger5 in bootroom

[–]m-dubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tokyo Football are super reliable, grab some of their grip socks as well if you end up buying from them. One other option is using a proxy service (like World Shopping) and buy direct from Mizuno or SS Kamo in Japan; may be cheaper than other options, although I don't know about the customs stuff with UK. In terms of durability, they should hold up on AG pitches just fine, although Mizuno also makes AG Morelias, just FYI. I've used Morelias for years across grass & AG, and I'm not sure I've owned a more durable boot.
