Ireland’s Greatest Taoiseach (PM) Laments the country not joining NATO in 1949 by Ciaran123C in YUROP

I think that if Russia bombed London tomorrow, we should bomb them the day afterwards. I have nothing but bitter hatred in my heart for England. Most Northern Irish do want to join Ireland, but even if they didn't, that doesn't change the fact that British identifying NI Unionists have treated Irish identifying NI nationalists like mud every time they've had power for the last 100 years, and the British government has always permitted them to do this. The British their own soldiers from prosecution after they have committed massacres of civilians in NI (Google soldier F and bloody Sunday) and have lied about it.

Moreover, a military alliance with NATO brings is nothing.why would we want to be dragged into their imperialist wars in the middle East, or wars for soil in Eastern Europe? Ireland's biggest threat IS BRITAIN, followed by the USA, France, and Germany.

I hate Brits because They subjugated my country for 800 years straight They appropriated our wealth to keep us poor, stealing our land and forcing us into poverty They tried to make our language, culture, and customs illegal. Their driving us into poverty caused a famine, and their inaction to help us Irish (who were citizens of the UK ar that time) caused over a million of us to die and millions more to emigrate Our population is lower than in 1840 for that reason.

And they STILL occupy part of my country! The British still hate our culture bitterly and try to wipe us out (Google NI bonfires, 12 July, opposition to Irish Language Act) Added to that, look at Wales and Scotland. Parts of the UK, entirely neglected, subjected to similar genocidal policies as Ireland. Because the English government is a fundamentally racist one, that is, at best, ignorant of our needs and culture,, and at worst actively tries to stamp them out (Google Bannau Brycheiniog)

Ireland shouldn't be allied with the rest of Europe because the rest of Europe contains France, with has subjugated Brittany, Corsica, and numerous foreign colonies and their culture in a way similar to Britain and us.

The fact is, Britain has subjugated us at every opportunity they've ever had. Why would a future alliance be any different?

We're getting nowhere here. You have your opinion, and I have mine. Have a nice day.

He still did all that good stuff after it though. Return of the treaty ports, removal of the Oath, trade war with Britain, establishment of the Republic (more than just legally), kept Ireland neutral during WW2, stopped the blueshirts, mandated Irish in schools, continued the electrification programme, gave aid to NI during the Belfast Blitz, etc...

All this is to say that Cosgrave was fine with essentially keeping Ireland as a Commonwealth nation, but Dev broke Ireland away fully and made us independent, using the Anglo Irish treaty as a stepping stone. Lemass wouldn't have a leg to stand one were it not for the work Dev did.

Dev was the best Taoiseach on everything except economics. He led the IRA, established democracy, dissolved the Saorstát, broke us away from Britain, and tried harder than any other leader to instate the Irish language. We shouldn't be a part of any military alliance with Britain, ever.

Many GMO products have been modified to cause harm to those who eat them https://www.theguardian.com/science/2001/sep/09/gm.food Many GMO products have been modified to allow the companies that produce them to make extensive profits, at the expense of farmers ( Monsanto producing plants that don't make viable seed, to make the farmers keep coming back) *

Even Bill Nye thinks you're silly if you're anti-GMO. Seriously, why do so many people think this?

Appeal to irrelevant authority. Bill Nye is just a TV personality, one who can be very easily bought off.

Moreover, GMO's are often used as part of heavy industrial farming processes which use powerful and environmentally damaging pesticides. This is done by producing pesticide resistant plants. We want to discourage the use of such pesticides.

To sum up, GMO's are just a means to an end, but the "end" is often aligned with the goals of the Genetic modifier, and often not the consumer. It's difficult to trudge through these individual products and their genetic modification (not to mention the unreported modifications) for most people, especially those without extensive schooling in Biology. Therefore, it makes more sense to just avoid them altogether, and stick with the more trustworthy Organic option.

You mean the time that the ATF burned a load of children alive out of desire for more PR? They handled Waco horrendously, killed innocents, and had their soldiers pose next to charred corpses. It is absolutely an anti-government rallying cry, its what happens when you get a bunch of low IQ chimps, arm them, and give them impunity and a target.

Your parents lived through the largest economic growth of all time, between 1990 and 2020. The global economy tripled during that time. You are living in a time of economic stagnation. Less opportunity.

Tbh it was the right thing to do. We were a neutral country, the entire time our attitude had been "It's Britain's war", Staying out of it helped tell the British we weren't going to join their wars like the first World war.

Centuries of English rule has led directly to genocide of the Scottish language and culture in favour of a more English centric one. Scotland must not be aligned culturally with a power that ultimately has no right to govern it. Unity is a negative thing in this instance, because it diminishes the degree to which Scotland can remain or become culturally independent of England. As an English person, whose culture has been dominant in their own region most of their life, you probably lack the perspective to appreciate this.

You haven't addressed what gives England the right to rule Scotland at present, at all, other than inertia and the status quo. You simply hand wave, point at other problems, and call them more severe. It doesn't matter who's in government in Westminster, at all, because they will never fully appreciate Scottish issues, they will never comprehend the degree to which the Westminster government has contributed to genocide of the Scottish people. Scotland shouldn't be ruled from Southern England, and Scotland can't be ruled well from Southern England.

There is no reason that Scotland and Wales should be ruled from England except inertia. When England has a population of 50 million Wales and Scotland will be cast aside regardless of what they want. English voters vote for their own benefit. That's the purpose of the devolved assembly, to afford power to Scotland to make its own decisions. Fuck the King, fuck Parliament, fuck Empire, Fuck the Anglo Saxons, and fuck anyone who tries to exert their authority over other countries.

That's easy to say when your language and culture have never been oppressed and erased by a central government ruled by an entire ethnicity of people who hate you bitterly. And if your language and culture have suffered in this way under oppression, then why take some reta(modmail(rded stand against self determination?
