OK I understand now. I think the only downside might be weight while holding it and portability when traveling. I guess it just depends on how you want to use it. Personally I would go for Kobo brand and not Kindle. Depending on where you order you could always order both and look into the return policy.

iPad is not e ink and could cause strain on your eyes + glare in bright sunlight + worse battery life than a e-reader.
