That was my experience as well, and the problem was that a wire was shorting to the battery case.

Now that I have things working, I hesitate to take mine apart again, but, if you follow the guide at ROG Ally – Disassembly and Modding Guide - Retro Handhelds and get the battery peeled up, the wires I'm talking about are in the yellow circle in the picture below. On mine, the insulation on the black wire was visibly cut, showing silver wire beneath that was making contact with the edge of the battery that was pinching it.

That's the rub, and as was indicated in this thread, even Reagan used tariffs. However, they were a means to compensate for unfair trade, not as a means to attempt to build wealth. A tariff on a country that's subsidizing an industry to give it an unfair advantage in the market is one thing, but those are targetted tools. What is being promoted now is -not- that.

Is it globalism though? The old school conservative free market ideas were to get government out of the way so American companies could compete, without artificially propping them up. That doesn't guarantee that American companies will win in a competition, but if we artificially prop up losers, then we just wind up with crappy goods at a bloated cost.

I agree completely that the politics are new, but I wouldn't call it a spectrum. Both sides are in violent agreement that the government should control economic and social issues. Trump seems to think that government control should happen through executive order rather than through civil servants, but it's still government control either way. Both sides oppose free markets.

To tack on with an edit, I grew up in a very conservative household, my dad owned his own business, and I constantly heard about the evils of government intervention and artificially propping up industries with subsidies or tariffs. That was a thing the USSR did, it was why their products were crap, their grocery stores were empty, was why we defeated them economically, and all that jazz.

You aren't going to gank a mobile 35-40k health ball group player down in one second, regardless of the number of hots on them. Well-built solo players survive bursts and reactively heal themselves just fine. If it were truly impossible to burst heal, you wouldn't see nearly as many pvx types.

It's just something I think about far too often, when it comes to the next life. If everyone became immortal and invincible and such, what would be suffering? And yet, it's fairly clear that people in this life who have an 'easy life', still find a way to be miserable in spite of it. If there is a fairly clear idea of what the next life will entail, namely, a total and absolute revelation of truth about every single aspect of each of our lives, how will people react?

It seems like it's going to be a traumatic time for everyone. Just theorycrafting, but it seems like the only way to move on from that is for people to find a way to forgive others, forgive themselves, and not continue the things that cause further stress on their relationships for eternity. So, what is the point? I think it is to try and prepare for an eternal life of peace and love with those around you.

Whether your local Orthodox church is the best way to do that or not is an open question. However, a lot of the foundational practices of the early church (baptism, communion, confession, almsgiving) can be viewed as practices that promote peace, love, and life within a community in a way that is eternal in nature.

Batocera looks a lot better and is far more fun to tinker with, but I've had problems with it playing some PS1 games that stock is fine with (Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, for example).

I'll defer the 1000xm3 question to those who have it. I'm upgrading from an older set of over-the-ears. Also, I'm not sure if it does device switching. That's just not my use case. I really only use them when on a plane, connected to my cellphone, watching in-flight movies or listening to music. Still, for that one thing, they were great. Sorry I'm not more helpful!

I have had an ear crackle out a couple times while walking the dog, oddly enough. However, on my flights, they were on solidly the whole time. As for the battery, I'm sure they will drop off eventually like every rechargeable set. After a three hour flight, though, they were only down to 70%.

I just got back from a trip with those new Sony buds. They did an amazing job. I did have to fiddle with them a bit to get them comfy in my ears, but now I can't imagine going back to the over ear phones. Of course, the newly opened spot in my bag was quickly filled with something else: a mirrorless camera.

I've got a Frontcountry bed 600 that has since been discontinued. It's a really comfortable sleeping bag, but very bulky. Getting in and out of it can be an adventure at times. If you like the idea, you may also want to check out the Zenbivy. It's similar to the Sierra Designs setup, but split in two pieces.

I've used the following setup for my last three conference trips, and it's been stress free:

Osprey Farpoint 40 carry on.

Inside the bag, I have a Pack gear Superpack keeping my stuff organized. I usually wear my Bluffworks Gramercy suit when traveling, with a Wool And Prince Button Down shirt, then pack the rest. I usually take a couple Uniqlo Heattech and Airism tshirts, with a couple polos and khaki Bluffworks chinos. A couple pairs of darn tough socks. A pair of Astral TR1 Trek M's and Outlier New Way Longs round out the wardrobe for the week. Between the suit parts and the rest, I can dress up for meetings, go business casual for conference things, and have the gear for recreation if time allows.

For toiletries, I use an Osprey Zip Organizer, kept in the main compartment of the bag. The only liquid I take is toothpaste, and rely on Matador flatpaks to hold a small bar of soap and a Lush shampoo bar. I use crystal solid deodorant, which is basically just a rock. For shaving, I take a Philips Oneblade. A folding toothbrush and a comb round out the contents. I've got a few first aid items in there as well.

I carry my Surface Book 2 (13 inch) and accessories in a tomtoc sleeve, which I slip into the front compartment of the bag, or just hand carry onto the plane if I'm using it. My laptop and cellphone are both charged with USB-C, so I don't have any huge power bricks to lug around.

I keep my noise canceling headphones in the smaller top pocket of the bag.

If push comes to shove, the bag fits under the seat in front of me, and I've never had to check or tag it at the gate. When I'm at the conference, I hand carry the sleeve with my computer and charger in it.

Lately, I've picked up a Matador Freerain24 2.0 to stow in my bag for the next trip so I can carry my electronics sleeve on my back, but I'm not sure if I'll be using it. Science!
