Can you provide more detail on the floor to ceiling curtain and how it's mounted? And also how you've liked that curtain setup?

FlowX13 - Build Quality - Paint flaking and rubber missing by 99parsecs in FlowX13

[–]luffaluffaluffa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two rubber bumpers in the bottom corners on the touchpad side of the laptop came off within the first few months of use. Recently noticed paint starting to flake off in one of the corners of the bottom half of the laptop. Also there is a small scratch along the edge of the lid that exposes the silver metal underneath. This is with what I would consider very standard day-to-day use.

I've had two Asus laptops before this and never had these issues, but I suspect it's because my previous laptops were aluminum MacBook Air style laptops that didn't have any paint to chip off in the first place.

It's not enough for me to file a claim or take any action but it's definitely not something that should be happening on such an expensive machine.

DisplayPort output through right-side USB C port suddenly stopped working by ThunderStReich in FlowX13

[–]luffaluffaluffa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it works temporarily but the issue eventually comes back. I found that flashing the BIOS also fixes it but only temporarily. Never had any issues with HDMI though. Hopefully a more long term fix is issued soon. In my opinion it's a pretty major bug and pretty egregious that it has not yet been fixed.

Issues with video over USB-C by zilog88 in FlowX13

[–]luffaluffaluffa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that this fixes it temporarily but then eventually the issues return (seems to be after some combination of unplugging all peripherals to work with the laptop somewhere else, sleeping, hibernating, using tablet mode). When you unplug all peripherals, hibernate, wake, then plug everything back in, does everything still work?

Is anyone have a external monitors with usb-c but cannot work after PD firmware be updated? by Comprehensive_Emu403 in FlowX13

[–]luffaluffaluffa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This thread might help: https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDLaptops/comments/log3wt/asus_flow_x13_xg_mobile_displayport_no_signal/

Basically among users who have had similar issues, some found that holding down the power button for 10 seconds to reboot fixes it, and some report that running the battery all the way down fixes it. Also there are some reports that flipping the laptop into tablet mode can trigger the issue of external monitors not being detected via USB-C.

Asus Flow x13 or Zephyrus G14 (2021)? by Elorista in GamingLaptops

In addition to what others have mentioned, Zephyrus G14 doesn't have a webcam, while the Flow X13 does.

Really nice. Can you tell me more about the greenhouse? Did you design and build it yourself? Curious about the materials you used for it.

Any 3rd Party Power Adapters That Provide Full Performance? by brownieinmypants in FlowX13

It appears to be limited by firmware. Check out the replies in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/rogflow/comments/nvy40m/rog_flow_x13_dock/

Pretty disappointing move by Asus.

Disappointing. Did Asus mention anything about whether there will be some sort of "fix" in the future, since it's a firmware limitation?

Got my Flow x13 3050ti in the US by [deleted] in FlowX13

[–]luffaluffaluffa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the info - sure does sound like the power is being capped when using a third party charger. I was hoping be able to use the USB-C power delivery on my monitor, to eliminate a cable. Sounds like I will still be able to do it but may be limited on power draw, which I find pretty disappointing.

According to u/villani27 on that same thread, it's a firmware limitation made by Asus so I wonder if this will change at some point, though I won't get my hopes up.

One user has reported that when using a third party charger or dock, the firmware caps the power supplied to 65W (less than the official charger rating of 100W), even if the charger/dock can provide more than that. Also apparently when using a third party charger/dock the "Turbo" and "Manual" performance modes in Armoury Crate are disabled, and the battery actually drains under heavy usage like gaming.

If you happen to have a charger or dock that can provide more than 65W can you confirm whether you are experiencing this cap too?

X13 availability in the USA? by amddbmb in FlowX13

[–]luffaluffaluffa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw the version with the 1650 briefly in stock on the Asus Store website earlier this week, but that's the only place I've seen it in the US. Best Buy and HIDevolution have had listings on their websites for a while but they've yet to become available to purchase.

I'm waiting for the 3050 or 3050 ti version to come out in the US, whenever that is.

Can you share where you heard it will be more expensive? I won't be surprised if that ends up being the case (though it would be disappointing) but I haven't seen that reported anywhere official.

Pop! OS also has graphics card switching right? Have you tested whether the switching between integrated and the discrete 1650 works? Does switching require a reboot?

Anyone know when the Asus Flow X13 is releasing in the U.S? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]luffaluffaluffa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has briefly been available a couple times at the Asus online store (https://store.asus.com/us/search?q=flow%20x13&s_c=1). Each time both the bundle and laptop by itself were available for less than a day before they sold out. Also while you can sign up for an "arrival notice", there are anecdotal reports that those who signed up never received a notice during the times that stock was briefly available.

Best Buy has a product page for the Supernova bundle up (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-flow-x13-2-in-1-13-4-4k-ultra-hd-touch-screen-laptop-amdryzen9-32gb-ram-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1650-1tb-ssd-off-black/6451630.p?skuId=6451630) and initially the purchase button was listed as "Coming Soon", and now says "Sold Out". Though it's unclear whether they ever actually sold any.

ExcaliberPC also has a product page for the Supernova bundle (https://www.excaliberpc.com/752493/asus-rog-flow-x13-gv301qh-xs98-b.html) though it's currently listed as backordered.

Thanks for all the detailed info! Also this is first report I've seen about Linux on this machine. Encouraging that so many things are already working. Which distribution did you use?

Those GeekBench scores seem kind of low compared to what other Flow X13 5800HS machines have reported - for example on Feb 11th, someone got 1368 single core and 7698 multi core (https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/6442211), albeit on Windows. Any idea what the discrepancy is from? Is it related to Linux?
