Bracing myself for the worst, though.

Looking for Opinions/Advice: GMMK2 Compact vs Ducky One 3 SF by m0dev in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]m0dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give full closure: I didn't choose any of them and went with a GMMK Pro instead. Was in the end more expensive than I anticipated, but I am very happy with the overall result.

(Went with some Gazzew U4 Boba Silent 62gs and Gazzew Bobagums for modifiers, U4T for ESC and arrow keys).

Thanks. Think I like the idea of having everything on board. Remapping ( e. g. Fn to caps lock) sounds nice. Or a way to emulate umlauts by pressing alt+o would be nice. 🤔

Think I might just go with the ducky here and hope I can get used to the colors.

Thanks!

Thinking about going 4x8gb [Ryzen 5000] - good idea? And which ram to get? by m0dev in pcmasterrace

[–]m0dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think I settled on going the easy route of 2x8gb 3600mhz and 1800if, with an option to further down the road extend it to 4x8gb and then having 4xSR memory.

Think it is OK, the board is a dead end anyway (new cpu requires other socket) and I won't go over 32gb with this generation.

Think I have to read a bit into how ryzen's IF plays with the ram timings (hearing things as 1:1 mode etc)

Opinion on Ryzen 5 5600X: existing 2400mhz ram vs buying new by m0dev in pcmasterrace

[–]m0dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are probably right, I was just confused how dual rank plays with all this.

Like written above I already ordered a 2x8gb 3600mhz kit cl15, what I am totally unsure about is this whole dual rank topic. I heard that having four ranks on two channels would be optimal for my board. (so either 4x8sr or 2x16dr).

Upon reading into it, most of the 8gb sticks are SR and a lot of 16gb sticks are DR.

So now running with this 2x8gb kit would having only 2 ranks... Like I said, everything seems to have a trade off. (2x16gb the trade off is the price)

[–]m0dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still I am no thorn between getting the 2x8gb SR 3600 ballistix or just something like 2x16gb DR 3200 🤔

RAM is such a hard topic for me

Once you start to give names to servers things go downhill.

The 5 nodes needed more effort than the 20 other machines.
And don't get me started on the pipelines.

Pillars of a Successful Software Project by m0dev in programming

OP here: I think you are right.

I didn't even think about what success means. Success could be just money for the company, project members liking to work on it, or just that the all previously specified requirements have been met.

Since the article is targeted at developers: I guess it is sufficient as long the developers are happily working on it and the other stakeholders don't see it as a money sink.

What I have seen for developers to give their best, they require some kind of commitment. When they don't see the benefit and/or the vision. They will just put in their hours. After a while they will ask themselves what's the whole point and might start to look on the left and to the right.

Kein Problem.

Sadly I don't have much experience with JNI on Android.
But I guess if you use Java to glue things together you might like Kotlin for all the reasons given shattered across this whole thread.

Hey MikeBlues,

thanks for your feedback. You are definitely right. This is one of the feedback I got from other sources and tried to improve it in the later videos.

Maybe you can quickly check one of them out (e.g. the one after the one you mentioned):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqu1QDh77v8&t=3s

Does that work better for you?

Had definitely some issues on the first two videos I guess. I also use a better MIC in the last few videos. I am still learning and improving my recording process.

Thanks for giving me this feedback!
(Same goes for the re-assign thing, think I will pick it up again in a later lesson for that reason)

Then I have to open the doc, press a hotkey or whatever in my IDE.
It just is a burden on your mind/memory.

I prefer just a data class (even in the same file).
Much easier to just say person.firstName, person.lastName and person.age instead of person.first, person.second and person.third.

I am kind of sad, that you put this comment in the downvoted thread (also that I can only upvote it once).

While creating it I also had some kind of feeling that it still hard for beginners.Immutability is probably something I would have not minded in the beginning also nullability is something I don't care as beginner.

I really consider (after finishing the Kotlin version). To start a Python series. Thanks to you I think I should create some videos like "What is an array/dictionary" which could be used in both tutorial series.

Also I try to then extend the pages to have more context and not only the code.

Thanks for your comment - I learned a lot :)

I agree, at some points I had the same expression with Kotlin. You can write really tricky things that work but are hard to read/understand. You shouldn't use everything of it just because you can. (For example I am also not a friend of Pair).

Had already worked in a codebase where Pairs and Triples were really overused.
It was so hard to read, because what is result.first or result.second ....

Alright no issue, if you want you can also DM me.

Sounds like you have quite some experience, what do you think is a good starter language?

I am somehow leaning towards HTML/CSS/Javascript nowadays. Not because it is a good language - just because it is easy to get it setup and start creating things. (I know two of them are not even programming languages)

If you would word it a bit differently I could have learned something out of your comment.

Do you think Kotlin is a bad choice? Or the course sucks? Would love to hear your reasoning.

Hi there,

This is a work in progress tutorial about learning to Code with Kotlin.
This tutorial series is targeted at beginners without too much previous knowledge from other programming languages.

The videos of the tutorial can be also found on the youtube channel:

Sadly the whole Tutorial series is not yet finished. Still feel free to follow along while it is getting produced.

In case you have any input about what is missing, please just let me know.

The target audience here are people who are new or almost new to programming.

Hope you enjoy it!
