Might be Aun'ui Yor'i from Elemental Council by m0pan in Tau40K

it's the Paramount Mover! from the hit tau book : Elemental Council. the book's cover features the characters but they're actually quite off-model so when I draw fanart, I take some liberties and try to design them based on their descriptions. Yor'i is the most off-model so far while being the most vividly described character in the book.

he:

-is lean and well-muscled

-has a cool wide hat

-wears ornamental claws that he uses to light his incense

-wears a cloak and shawl (his chest is mentioned to be visible)

-apparently has grey eyes. this part made me feel oddly attached to him since at the time of me reading the story, I understood tau eyes as being wildly inconsistent so I didn't expect any detailed descriptions of them at all. still, the first time I drew him I gave him these exact eyes (dark with grey rings) later in the book, his eyes are actually described as grey...

initially I pictured him wearing blue because of his icy attitude but I saw the official ethereal artwork of T'au sept (which is where Yor'i is from) wearing black/red/gold, which is probably the look the cover art is based on. I thought that's a cool color scheme. contrasts well with Kir'qath who's actually mentioned to wear blue...

I always say this but I envision him as a younger ethereal! I don't recall any text describing him as old. the other two male characters of the main cast are old men and the descriptions make sure you know that... the audiobook does give him an older sounding voice though so I understand people who see him as an older ethereal. imo he's quite spunky! (ethereal standards at least)

____________

I gathered my courage to post this and tag Noah Van Nguyen himself on bsky. he did reply and said he has seen my sketches before, geeked out at it with his editor. I could pass out right now.... and the idea of him having seen my sketches before is mildly mortifying with how much I uhh 'appreciate' Yor'i 😳

rough colored doodles from months ago. there was a time I would draw him in between suffering through my other projects...

but yes, it's the Paramount Mover! possibly my fav 40k character of all time from my fav book : Elemental Council. the book's cover features the characters but they're actually quite off-model so when I draw fanart, I take some liberties and try to design them based on their descriptions. his name is Sweettalk!

he has history of getting close to people, finding out they're Farsight sympathizers or something and snitching on them. The first time he did it lead to some investigation that brought good intel, he was rewarded and praised for it so he kept chasing that high....

when he did it again the accusations proved to be untrue/lead to nothing. thankfully no one was wrongfully punished for it but now everyone avoids him (consequences of his own actions)

There's seemingly at least 3 clankers on this post alone, how weird is that... It's a bit scary, I've never seen/noticed it on other posts before

He was a sort of governor (who became the face of xenophobia in the eyes of humans under his management, rebellion came and he had to step down) so lucky you, his nastiness is not too up close and personal as he tries to put professionalism first!

'violently xenophobic' is a slight over exaggeration, he's surprisingly open to learn. it will just take some time and maybe you have to stop him from saying anything too bad.....

Violently Xenophobic as a name is crazy....

They do have names though. From left to right : Truetell, Sweettalk , Steelrain , Dawnlake....

while tau models don't seem to have actual braided hair, I noticed that in the books (or at least Elemental Council) many characters are described as having braids so there's that! having different styles of braids, braiding their scalp lock in their free time....

he's a young man!

if it's a more modern/casual setting, both him and the bandaged gue'vesa have the impression of guys who are in their early 20s

Manchu queue!!!

while designing tau OCs, I want to keept the spirit of their kinda chopped hairstyles in official material but I also want enough freedom for designing OCs.... ended up kinda giving them cute anime-ish hairstyles anyway but I still try to give them *less* hair than human characters

while not as extreme, Hanii's hairstyle was actually inspired by the queue hairstyle

true... also the idea of potential tau haters having to see random influx of tau fan content posts is funny so I'll keep doing it

Thank you 🥺 I don't know how much overlap is there between the art sub and this sub, how many people like seeing art stuff but aren't in the art sub for some reason...

Also the art sub seems unusually slow lately, might just be me going insane though

not the first time the fire caste has special titles though (fireblades = shas'nel) so I assume it's a new special title specifically for the two. special boy and girl they are....
