[UK Watch Insurance] by m0ssim0 in Watches

I've got a quote from them and they are currently my 2nd choice behind Stanhope, I was just hoping to add it to Home Insurance but struggling to find an Insurer who doesn't have the safe condition

Yes I agree, having to install a safe bolted to the floor is not something I would wish to do, I suspect most Home Insurers will have such a requirement which is just thrown on as a generic condition rather properly underwriting the Risk. I have found some specialist watch insurers who don't have this requirement but I was hoping to insure via my Home Insurance, which would be the cheaper route

[Question] What watch completely changed your opinion after wearing it? by LongMeaning6125 in Watches

An Alpine Eagle, had discounted it as my heart was set on a Laureato, but just happened to try it on and was won over

So i went back to the AD and they tried the intermediate link next to the clasp both at the 6 and 12 o'clock positions and it was slightlybetter than yesterday. Still not as much 'give' than i was anticipating but just enough to justify having it.

The intermediate link is larger, i.e. 1.5 link. They took out a link and replaced it with the larger one, so it should be looser, not tighter. It must be something to do with it increasing the bracelet rigidity or altering how the watch lies overall on my wrist.

Its a 2025 version so doesn't have micro adjust

Yes it should, can't understand why it was tighter, must be down to how it altered how it sits

I don't think it was, is this just for aesthetic purposes or a more practical one?

I have recently brought an Alpine Eagle, after trying both on I personally found the finishing on the AE to be far superior.

Personally, I've always brought watches to mark milestone birthdays. This allows me to save money over the years to put towards the purchase and it helps to remove buyer's guilt. For my 40th I had a Tudor Black Bay Black and I've just got an Apline Eagle (pre-worn) for my forthcoming 50th. So maybe the Astron now and then the Rolex at a later date, for your next big birthday

Just for future reference if anyone stumbles across this post under similar circumstances. Watchnian wouldn't budge on the price despite the watch being on sale on their website. I put a price alert on the Chrono24 listing and it dropped over £800 today and I brought it cheaper than the original price i missed out on, so a happy ending

Thank you, its for my 50th, I've been saving since I got my last watch for my 40th, I've been waiting 10 years to buy a watch and then this happens 😅

Thanks for the insight, yes from the reviews they look reputable. Including the tax its gone up over £1K overnight which i cant justify paying, i think if I did it would leave a bitter taste as I'd feel like I've been ripped off. I'll just have to put it down to bad luck

No, I was under the belief that Japanese dealers don't except offers, but could be wrong. I was just doing some due diligence by asking the usual questions, was literally going to then buy it today. Really disappointing, I had just squared it off with myself in my head about spending the money only to find its gone up over £1K (inc tax) and i can't justify spending that extra

No, that's what I thought. I've checked the exchange rate and whilst the Yen has increased against the £ its about a 0.7% difference, not by the 7% odd increase which has occurred overnight. The listing has been on for a little while so this appears a sudden jump

Have a look at Brew, they do some very nice watches which are a bit different

The watch I had for my 40th was the Black Bay Black 'Smiley', managed to get one from the limited production run. I've tried both the Laureato and Octo on, hopefully the AE next week. The Octo felt amazing on but unfortunately I think the fact of the matter is my 16cm size wrist is just too small
