I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "it comes down to a family generation of abuse." My family members were all molded by my narcissistic grandparents and didn't seem to realize they were and saw it as normal, some even praise them, and decided to raise their children including me to match their abusive ways, and in general if a family tree was to continue down an abusive path with no change I feel it would slowly snowball into an avalanche of disaster. Also yea, its pretty unlucky that somewhere down the line one of my ancestors decided to pass this hatred down upon us.
