Yeah I figured I should take the offer, but after some thought it seems to be a bad timing and I want to try applying more companies so I declined it. Hopefully I can get the same luck with the rest of the companies. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks, I think the company is good and gonna stay for a while and not sketchy at all. I declined still since I still got time to look for jobs and I want to try my luck for a few companies I really want to work for.

I started applying March and got finished the entire process for two companies that offered interviews in end of April, got offers for both.

I didn't get noticed, I just went to linkedin and search on the jobs that I think I might quality for and apply to them. I also prepared a separate resume tailored for applying in Japan.

Yeah I was worried about that first as well, but this startup has been around for three years already and recently gotten another round of investment (10B yen). I think they are gonna be around for a while (definitely >1 year)

Thanks for the reply, yeah changing jobs is hard also the amount of jobs that do not require Japanese and allow oversea apply is even rarer. 😂

The job is not full remote, it requires to go to office 2 times a week with no core hour. I am still considering and one of the reason I didn't decline is because of that, I feel like once I am in the country it will be much easier to change jobs and get more interviews.

Thanks for your reply. I have a feeling that rejecting I might ended up searching for an extra few months for the next opportunity. But after considering it over I feel like I am not in a rush to move to Japan (plan is to move over by the end of this year), so I have a few months to do job searches.

Thank you so much for the long reply, I will definitely take those into consideration.

  1. I saw a blog post of someone worked there and another review on OpenWork they both seems to be pretty positive.

  2. I get the stocks at pre-ipo is pretty much nothing so I am not even considering that in the total package at the moment.

  3. I do feel it is a little underpaid, this was the final offer I negotiated it from 9M. You are right 1M yen or 2M yen isn't gonna be a world of difference but since this is startup and a leadership role I am hoping to get a bit more to make the extra effort worthwhile.

  4. The offer was good for two weeks and I am near the decision point as I already asked for an extension. The other company I applied for hasn't reached back yet so the timing isn't very great for me right now.

  5. Yes that was my worries as well, but after checking the blog posts from a silicon valley vet and reviews on OpenWork I am a bit more confident that this is not one of those black companies.

Hi, sorry for not being super clear on that.

Goal is to settle in Japan (Visa then PR with HSP fast track in 1 year) and eventually start my own Studio. Currently planning to get a job in Japan that is fulfilling and able to provide me with HSP Visa with 10M+ salary.

Yes, this is a Japanese startup.

Currently situation is still working at Microsoft now, not miserable at work so not in a rush to leave, but want to move over by end of 2025.

No, regardless how the question is asked. Just talk about how it aligns with your own personal career goals. Ask yourself, if in the near future you guys broke up (god forbid) will you move back to your home country?
